Chapter 102 The Emperor's Backing

No sooner had the Princess of Zhennan left than Pei Zhao walked over, seemingly casually.

“Miss, it seems that Prince Pei is walking towards us,” Yun Dong said.

Song Yue narrowed her eyes, a mocking smile curling at the corners of her lips. In her past life, she went to great lengths to please Pei Zhao, but Pei Zhao belittled her at every turn and never even gave her a smile.

She treated him coldly throughout their lives, but Pei Zhao took a liking to her instead.

Pei Zhao looked at her with such familiar eyes; it was exactly the same way he looked at Song Yao—deeply affectionate, tender, and doting.

"Third Miss?" Pei Zhao's voice was gentle.

Song Yue raised an eyebrow: "Young Master Pei has married two wives in a row. He is indeed extraordinary in his newlywed life."

Upon hearing this, Pei Zhao's expression became somewhat unnatural. He coughed lightly twice, his fist pressed against his lips, and his gaze fell on Song Yue's face: "Is Third Miss's face healed?"

His wife, Zhao Qingyan, had a scar on her face as thick as a baby's finger after she removed her veil. Zhao Qingyan wanted to apply all the ointment to the wound, but after so many days, the wound showed no signs of improvement.

Why is Song Yue's face healed despite having the same whip marks?

She covered her face in surprise: "It must be the ointment that Eighth Prince gave me that worked."

"Eighth Imperial Uncle?" Pei Zhao frowned, his voice low. "So you already knew the Eighth Imperial Uncle. No wonder he asked to marry you."

Judging from his tone, it was as if Song Yue had done something to wrong him, and he seemed to have doubts and dissatisfaction.

Song Yue said bluntly, "Some people have filthy minds and think everyone else is dirty. When I returned to the capital, if it weren't for the Eighth Prince speaking up for me, I would have been wronged to death long ago."

Pei Zhao's smile froze. He could tell Song Yue was displeased with him, so he quickly explained, "I was at home at the time, and my mother was in charge of my studies..."

"Why is Prince Pei explaining all this to me? You're not a baby anymore, you have no opinions of your own!" Song Yue clicked her tongue.

Perhaps Song Yue's words were too direct, which Pei Zhao found hard to accept. His face turned pale, and his fists clenched and unclenched repeatedly as he struggled with inner turmoil.

After a moment of silence, she said, "Third Miss, are you blaming me?"

Song Yue's gaze fell on the stage not far away. Listening to the female lead singing, her eyes showed appreciation and her lips curved into a smile. Hearing what he said, she turned her gaze back to Pei Zhao and glanced at him: "Young Master Pei just got married and you're already bothering me again. In front of everyone, are you trying to ruin my reputation or disrupt today's banquet?"

Because of her deep-seated obsession in her past life, she simply couldn't speak properly with Pei Zhao, and her few words made Pei Zhao feel utterly ashamed.

Pei Zhao's breathing became rapid.

"Young Master Pei, please make yourself at home!" Song Yue stood up and left.

Yun Dong helped Song Yue walk away. She couldn't help but turn back to look at Pei Zhao, who was still standing there in a daze. She covered her mouth and smiled, "Miss, Prince Pei is used to being fawned over. Very few people speak to him like this. I guess he must be terrified."

Song Yue had a very bad impression of the Zhennan Prince's Mansion.

She definitely wouldn't indulge Pei Zhao. As for whether he felt good or not, what did it have to do with her?

"Third Miss, we're going to go boating on Taiye Pond to pick lotus flowers..." A familiar-looking girl approached Song Yue.

Song Yue rubbed her temples and nestled in Yun Dong's arms: "I'm so sorry, I have a headache and can't stand the cold wind, so I won't disturb your enjoyment."

"Can……"

"I get seasick. If I accidentally vomit on you all, wouldn't that be an offense to Your Majesty?" Song Yue refused all invitations that might lead to her being framed.

The girl looked embarrassed, gave a dry laugh, and wisely withdrew.

"Third Miss, my young lady has lost her handkerchief..."

"If you lose your handkerchief, just ask a palace maid for help. I'm not familiar with the palace," Song Yue sighed.

Do these people just hate to see her doing well?

Song Yue simply stood there, not going anywhere. She wanted to see just how many people were still watching her.

After being rejected wave after wave, and after everyone had made a scene, Song Yue finally got some peace and quiet.

noon

The palace banquet officially began.

The banquet was held in the inner courtyard of the Imperial Garden, with ten tables set up. Song Yue sat next to Princess Jia Hua, looking obedient and adorable.

She merely pretended to pick up the food at the banquet and then put it down.

"Where is the Eighth Prince?"

There were whispers among the crowd.

Song Yue pretended not to hear.

"The Eighth Prince was just summoned away by the Empress Dowager. I heard that the Empress Dowager is going to bestow a marriage upon the Eighth Prince." Someone gloated.

The Empress Dowager's surname was Xu. She was a concubine of Emperor Taizu. Emperor Bei Chu had been raised by Empress Dowager Xu for two years, which is why he became Empress Dowager.

As Song Yue was deep in thought, she heard Princess Jia Hua scoff, "Some people just can't see their place."

Princess Jiahua picked up a handkerchief and gently wiped her lips, looking at Song Yue with tender eyes: "No matter what the Empress Dowager asks later, if you are unwilling to answer, just ignore her."

Judging from her tone, it seemed that her mother had some kind of grudge against this Empress Dowager Xu.

No sooner had the words left his mouth than the little eunuch shouted at the top of his lungs, "The Empress Dowager has arrived!"

Everyone stood up.

A moment later, a woman dressed in a dark yellow phoenix robe and wearing a phoenix crown walked over in a grand procession, surrounded by a group of palace maids.

She appeared to be around forty years old, with fair skin and slightly upturned eyebrows that hinted at a seductive charm. She straightened her chest and walked directly toward the head seat.

"Your subject/wife greets Your Majesty the Empress Dowager. May Your Majesty enjoy boundless blessings and peace."

Everyone bowed.

After Empress Dowager Xu took her seat, she glanced around the crowd and then fixed her gaze on Princess Jiahua. Her eyes narrowed, and a glint of shrewdness flashed in them.

But soon their gaze fell on Song Yue, who was standing next to Princess Jia Hua: "Who is the third young lady of the Duke of Jingguo's mansion?"
