The maid was taken aback, not expecting Song Yue to refuse so bluntly. Undeterred, she said, "Princess is unwell and wanted to say a few words to you, about the Eighth Prince."
Song Yue remained unmoved: "I've only met your princess a few times, we can't be considered close friends, you've come to the wrong person."
"Third Miss..." the maid pouted, tears welling up in her eyes.
Feeling annoyed, Song Yue suddenly whispered a few words to Yun Dong. Yun Dong understood and quietly withdrew, only to return a while later.
Several noble ladies also came with them, each followed by two maids. At a glance, the group consisted of at least a dozen people.
Song Yue raised her chin: "Let's go, I'm going to see your princess."
The maid stared wide-eyed at the crowd behind her.
"Don't worry, they'll just enjoy the flowers in the garden and won't disturb my conversation with the princess." Song Yue said patiently, "Your princess won't be waiting any longer."
Left with no other choice, the maid had to bite the bullet and lead the way.
A large group of people marched in.
Song Yue spotted the woman sitting in the garden pavilion immediately. It was Princess Lian'an, whom she hadn't seen for three years. She was wearing a crimson-purple dress, her belly slightly protruding. Her face was lightly made up, and her features were delicate. When she saw Song Yue arrive with a large group of people behind her, her brows furrowed unconsciously.
Song Yue also stopped and said to the noble ladies behind her, "I would like to ask you ladies to be my witnesses. It is Princess Lian'an who insisted on seeing me. I will be right back."
"Third Miss, we'll just stay here and admire the flowers; we won't disturb you."
"Yeah, it's good to come out and get some fresh air."
The women were all legitimate daughters of their families, and all had gentle personalities. Knowing Song Yue's status, they were happy to help.
If you can become friends with Song Yue, your status will rise accordingly.
Song Yue smiled slightly and summoned the imperial physician again. The physician examined the sachet, handkerchief, and other items on her body, and a female physician searched her body as well.
Only after the imperial physician confirmed that there was nothing on her body that could harm anyone did Song Yue stride toward Princess Lian'an.
Princess Lian'an's face was slightly pale at the moment. She smiled bitterly and said, "Sister Yue, you are too cautious."
“Princess, please don’t misunderstand. I’m just keeping an eye on people who might try to harm me.” Song Yue sat down opposite Princess Lian’an. Seeing that the little maid was about to leave, Song Yue stopped her: “You are the princess’s personal maid. There’s nothing you can’t hear. If the princess is unwell, you can help her.”
The maid paused, unsure whether to leave or stay, and awkwardly looked at Princess Lian'an.
Princess Lian'an sighed: "I just wanted to explain some things to you, not to take this opportunity to harm you."
“Princess, you misunderstand. I’m a rough person and I don’t know my own strength. I’m worried that I might hurt you.” Song Yue smiled slightly, not even touching the tea and snacks on the table. “I’m all ears to hear what the princess has to say.”
Princess Lian'an felt as if she had punched a piece of cotton, weak and helpless. She raised one hand to support her waist and the other to touch her stomach.
“Brother Zhiyan asked the Emperor for a decree to grant the marriage, but the Emperor rejected him, saying that he would only grant the marriage if you agreed.” Princess Lian’an said with tears in her eyes, “Sister Yue, I will not compete with you. From now on, I will rely on this child to spend the rest of my life with him.”
Song Yue suppressed a mocking smile, her eyes innocent: "Has the princess mentioned this to the Eighth Prince?"
Princess Lian'an nodded: "Brother Zhiyan said he would give us, mother and son, an explanation, but he owes you, Sister Yue, and in the future, I won't be the only one in the harem..."
He stopped halfway through his sentence.
Song Yue blinked, but didn't reply at all.
The atmosphere was awkward.
Princess Lian'an had no choice but to continue, "I am of humble birth and cannot compete with you. Over the years, Brother Zhiyan has been devoted to you, so you can rest assured."
rest assured?
How can I feel at ease?
If a princess were to become a concubine and give birth to the eldest son of the legitimate wife, what future would she, as the Eighth Prince's consort, have?
Song Yue remained gentle throughout: "I have no grudge against the princess, so why would I make things difficult for her?"
Princess Lian'an was overjoyed: "So, does that mean Sister Yue agrees to let me enter the manor?"
"Is my opinion really that important?" Song Yue asked rhetorically.
Three years ago, Princess Lian'an moved to the Eighth Prince's Mansion and then went to the northern frontier for three years. Now she is back pregnant. Does she still have a choice?
Princess Lian'an seemed not to hear and continued, "At today's banquet, I learned that Brother Yan would ask the Emperor to issue an imperial decree to grant us a marriage. If Sister Yue is willing, I will remember this favor and will definitely repay it in the future."
I see.
No wonder he insisted on seeing me.
Song Yue stood up and said calmly, "Does the princess have anything else to say?"
Princess Lian'an stood up anxiously, wanting to grab Song Yue's sleeve, but Song Yue stepped back to avoid her, saying, "Princess, you are pregnant, please don't make any sudden movements and protect the baby."
She didn't want to be framed.
Princess Lian'an awkwardly raised her hand and gave a sheepish smile: "Thank you, Sister Yue."
Song Yue turned and left, thanking the girls who were admiring the flowers: "It's getting late, we should go to the front hall."
She neither touched Princess Lian'an, nor shouted, nor uttered a single hurtful word, and even had the imperial physician examine her beforehand.
They didn't give Princess Lian'an even the slightest chance to frame her.
"Is the Third Miss really going to marry the Eighth Prince?" A girl in the crowd sighed, "Princess Lian'an has been by your side for three years and is pregnant. She is also nominally a princess sent to marry a foreign prince from Japan. She cannot be neglected. If the Third Miss marries into that family, won't she be overshadowed?"
"I don't think this princess is a good match. Back when she was being sent to marry the prince, she insisted on going to the Eighth Prince's residence. She acted like no one could see through her intentions. Wasn't she just after this?"
