Chapter 130: Funeral announcement at the Duke’s Mansion

As night fell, Zhao Yunke walked nervously toward the bridal chamber. He stood at the door for a long time without stepping in. Amber looked up and saw the person who came. She curtsied and said, "Your Highness."

Upon hearing the sound, Song Yue looked up towards the doorway.

A tall, handsome man in a dazzling red wedding robe was staring at her with extremely gentle eyes.

She got up.

Zhao Yunke lifted his foot and walked towards her: "A-Yue".

Amber approached carrying two cups of wine: "Your Highness and Your Highness, it's time for the wedding wine. May the newlyweds have a long and happy life together."

Zhao Yunke smiled and picked up one of the glasses, while Song Yue picked up the other. They walked around each other and drank it all in one gulp before placing the glasses back on the tray.

Amber then led her men away.

The room fell silent again.

"Ah Yue, I'm sorry you had to go through this today." Zhao Yunke said with a guilty look.

Song Yue shook her head: "I'm not a sentimental person. Besides, what happened today is not your fault. He just came back from a victorious battle, and he's your elder. We were in a passive position."

The only one to blame is Zhao Zhiyan for being too arrogant.

Today's commotion has also completely severed the uncle-nephew relationship between him and Zhao Yunke.

In the future, we will owe each other nothing, and there will be no need for us to endure this.

Song Yue suddenly tiptoed and reached out to touch Zhao Yunke's forehead. His temperature was normal, and she breathed a sigh of relief. Zhao Yunke then took her slender wrist in his hand.

The big hand held the little hand to his heart: "A-Yue, if one day I have any thoughts I shouldn't have, what will you do?"

Song Yue's eyes flickered slightly.

"Ah Yue, I married you not for any other reason..."

"Shh!" Song Yue stretched out her other hand, raised her fingertips and pressed them against Zhao Yunke's thin lips, and smiled: "From now on, you and I are husband and wife, no need to be so formal."

Now that she has married into the Guangjia Prince's Mansion, her future honor and disgrace will be intertwined with Zhao Yunke's.

Zhao Yunke gazed at the beautiful woman in his arms, his eyes gradually darkening. He bent down and picked her up, placing her on the couch.

On their wedding night, red candles burned.

The girl let out a shy exclamation, and the night grew even deeper until dawn broke, when she finally fell into a deep sleep from exhaustion.

Zhao Yunke, however, lost his sleepiness and pulled the girl into his arms.

"Your Highness."

There was a gentle knock on the door.

Amber whispered, "Your Highness, the Duke of Jingguo's mansion has sent someone."

He replied with a soft "I understand," and reluctantly shook the person in his arms awake. Song Yue rubbed her sleepy eyes, still half-asleep, and as she tilted her head back, her red lips were gently pecked. The man whispered, "The Duke of Jingguo's mansion has reported the death."

"We need to go back."

The sleepiness in Song Yue's eyes vanished instantly. She propped herself up and sat up. Zhao Yunke brought her clothes and draped them over her before calling someone in to serve her.

After tidying their clothes and grooming themselves, the two went out together.

Zhang Mama whispered in Song Yue's ear, "The princess sent someone to tell you that the day before yesterday, the Grand Madam was kidnapped by Prince Pei. She was a little frightened, and then she saw her granddaughter get married. Overwhelmed with joy and sorrow, she couldn't hold on any longer and passed away. Before she left, she said that she had no regrets. The people from the Fan family can all testify to this."

Song Yue nodded.

It seems Mother is not planning to forgive Pei Zhao easily.

"The princess also said that, in principle, the newlywed princess should not come to the front of the procession, but if she does not come today, it would make the princess seem too cold."

Song Yue smiled and said, "I've never believed in this stuff."

The two boarded the carriage together, and Zhao Yunke put his arm around Song Yue, letting her lean on his shoulder: "You can take a nap for a while, I'll wake you when we get there."

"Mmm." Song Yue didn't stand on ceremony and took his arm to lean against him.

She woke up as soon as the carriage stopped.

The gates of the Duke of Jingguo's mansion were wide open, and many people stood at the entrance to welcome guests. Even the plaque was covered with white cloth, and the lanterns under the eaves had the character "祭" (sacrifice) written on them in large characters.

"Third sister!"

Song Huan also returned with them.

She married into the Prince Shen's mansion last year and is now the wife of the Prince Shen's heir. She changed into a plain dress and walked towards Song Yue, looking down at Zhao Yunke: "Brother-in-law."

"Hmm," Zhao Yunke responded softly.

Song Huan held Song Yue's hand tightly: "Third sister, this happened so suddenly, and then Grandmother passed away."

Clearly, Song Huan was unaware of the hidden story.

"This isn't the place to talk. Let's go inside first," Zhao Yunke said.

The group entered together.

The funeral of the Dowager Lady was different from that of Song Kaifeng. The Dowager Lady was a lady with an imperial title and an elder of the Song family in this generation.

Whether out of consideration for Princess Jia Hua or for Song Qingfeng, the current Duke, many officials from the civil and military bureaus came to inquire about the news after the announcement of the funeral.

He's just waiting to come again in person after court.

Jiang Ying, who was also newly married, arrived early. When she saw Song Yue and Song Huan, she went up to them and said, "Mother said that we should just stand in the outer courtyard. Mother and Second Aunt are setting up inside."

Song Yue didn't understand what arrangements were needed.

But there must be a reason why my mother did this.

An hour later, the mourning hall was set up, and more and more people came to pay their respects, including the people Song Yue least wanted to see.

Zhao Zhiyan!

Zhao Zhiyan did not come alone; he was accompanied by the Prince of Zhennan and Pei Zhao.

Pei Zhao was bound hand and foot, and the Prince of Zhennan held a thick stick in his hand. In front of everyone, he struck Pei Zhao hard on the back with the stick.

The light-colored robe revealed smudges of red blood of varying shades, intertwined with each other. His face was pale, and the moment he saw Song Yue, his eyes erupted with intense hatred.

The next instant, Zhao Yunke stepped forward, shielding Song Yue behind him.

Pei Zhao raised his eyes and looked at Zhao Yunke, a mocking smile playing on his lips: "Prince Guangjia is quite pleased with himself, marrying a beautiful bride."

Pei Zhao used to be Zhao Yunke's study companion. The two grew up together and had a very good relationship, but later they somehow drifted apart.
