"Thank you, Your Majesty, for risking your life to save me. Is Your Majesty's injury any better?" Linghu Ning touched the Emperor of Dongying up and down, sniffed, and choked up: "Your Majesty, you must not risk your life for me again in the future. It will break my heart."
The Emperor of Dongying was taken aback, and reached out to grab Linghu Ning's wrist: "With the imperial physician here, you have already recovered. It is you who are frail and need to take good care of yourself."
Linghu Ning smiled happily: "Your Majesty, please rest assured. The Empress came to visit me this morning and brought me a lot of tonics. I will definitely take good care of myself."
"Empress?" The Emperor of Japan looked at the palace maid.
The palace maid nodded: "Your Majesty, the Empress comes to visit Consort Ning every day."
“Every day?” Linghu Ning asked in confusion, rubbing her head and scrunching her face. “No wonder I felt like someone was talking right next to my ear. It wasn’t a dream after all.”
The Emperor of Dongying stroked Linghu Ning's hair and waved his hand: "From this day forward, Consort Ning is hereby conferred the title of Noble Consort Shu and moved to Jingyang Palace."
"This servant greets Consort Shu." The crowd bowed.
After a moment of stunned silence, Linghu Ning shyly hugged the Emperor of Dongying's arm and said, "Your Majesty, you are so kind to me. I am deeply grateful."
"Consort Shu, this is what you deserve." The Emperor of Dongying then summoned the imperial physician to check Linghu Ning's pulse.
A calming incense stick wafted through the room. Linghu Ning yawned repeatedly, then fell into the arms of the Japanese emperor and fell into a deep sleep.
"Let's begin."
A royal physician began to cast illusions on Linghu Ning.
Do you remember your name?
"Linghu Ning".
Where did it come from?
"Northern Chu".
"Do you know the Crown Princess of Northern Chu?"
"I don't know him."
"Do you remember what happened a few days ago?"
"I fell off a cliff but was saved by the Emperor."
...
After an incense stick had burned, the Emperor of Dongying was completely relieved. He gently brushed Linghu Ning's nose with his fingertips and instructed the imperial physician, "Begin."
The imperial physician trembled.
Not long after the heart's blood was drawn, Linghu Ning woke up. She touched her chest, gasped in pain, and looked at the palace maid: "What happened to me?"
His body was even wrapped in gauze.
The palace maid said without batting an eye, "Consort Shu has been poisoned. The imperial physician just came to treat you."
Linghu Ning had no doubt whatsoever.
"Consort Shu fell off a cliff and was bitten by a poisonous snake. His Majesty personally sucked out the poison for your sake. Now His Majesty falls ill every few days, but there is only one antidote. His Majesty gave it to you. Therefore, from today onwards, you must take good care of your health. If His Majesty falls ill, he will urgently need your heart's blood for medicine," the palace maid explained.
Linghu Ning threw off the covers and was about to get out of bed when her body went limp and she fell heavily to the ground. The palace maid panicked at the sight and hurriedly stepped forward to help her up.
“Go and tell the Emperor that he may take my blood as long as he can survive.”
The palace maid frowned.
She glanced discreetly at a shadowy figure outside the window and nodded, "This servant will convey your message, Your Highness, please take good care of yourself."
"Alright, go and inform the imperial kitchen to prepare more tonics for me, the more the better."
The palace maid nodded, helped the person to the couch, and then quickly left.
Under the eaves
The Japanese emperor wore a strange smile. He turned his head and glanced at the empress walking towards him. He frowned.
"Greetings to His Majesty."
"What brings the Empress here?" the Emperor of Japan asked, raising an eyebrow.
The Empress looked worried. "I heard that Consort Shu has fainted again, so I came to check on her."
"Consort Shu is somewhat weak, but the imperial physicians are taking care of her. The Empress need not trouble herself," said the Emperor of Dongying.
Upon hearing this, the Empress's face showed embarrassment, but she still mustered up her courage to ask, "Your Majesty, Consort Shu attempted to assassinate you, how could you still appoint such a person as a consort? She... she is very likely a spy from Northern Chu. I am really worried about you. Why don't you hand Consort Shu over to me?"
Upon hearing this, the Emperor of Dongying slapped the Empress across the face, catching her off guard. She covered her face in disbelief, saying, "The Empress has overstepped her bounds."
Upon hearing this, the Empress trembled and knelt down uneasily, begging for forgiveness.
"Shh!" The Emperor of Dongying lowered his voice: "Consort Shu has just fallen asleep, Empress, please make as little noise as possible."
The Empress's expression changed slightly as she looked at the Emperor of Dongying with a strange expression. Just a few days ago, the Emperor had tortured Linghu Ning severely, wishing he could kill her.
In just a few days, their attitude has changed so drastically.
It's truly baffling.
"There's one more thing I need to remind the Empress. There are some things you shouldn't say in front of Consort Shu, or I'll get angry." The Emperor of Dongying looked down at her, his tone full of pressure, which made the Empress nod repeatedly in agreement.
