"Your Highness, Imperial Concubine." Xuan Yuan Chen looked at her with a complicated expression, one hand resting on his lower back, glancing behind him.
Linghu Ning raised her chin: "I did not see the Fourth Prince today. I will take full responsibility for what happened today."
Seeing that she was about to leave, Xuan Yuan Chen stepped forward and stopped her: "Your Highness, I am not a coward. My sister-in-law and brother have been married for many years. This matter will not be easily resolved, and the consequences are not something you can bear alone."
Linghu Ning stared calmly at the other party: "Although I have lost my memory, the Empress told me in person how the Linghu family died. The enemy is right in front of me. How can I watch the enemy live a carefree life? At worst, I will pay with my life!"
Xuanyuan Chen was stunned by Linghu Ning's resolute decision and didn't know what to say for a moment.
Ignoring Xuan Yuan Chen, Linghu Ning headed towards Jingyang Palace. Sure enough, she encountered Consort Xian on the way. She smiled slightly and said, "Thank you for your help, Consort Xian. I am very grateful. This is written by me personally."
Linghu Ning took out a petition from her bosom, which recorded the entire process of how she forced the Empress and the old lady of the Marquis of Zhenbei to die.
Consort Xian raised an eyebrow and put the things away: "Congratulations, Your Highness, on avenging your great grudge."
If Consort Xian hadn't sent a maid to intercept Dai Mao and then sent someone in to deliver a message to her, things might not have gone so smoothly today.
"I am tired. From today onwards, I will stay at home until His Majesty returns from Northern Chu."
After saying this, Linghu Ning turned to leave, but Consort Xian sensed something was wrong. Her eyelids twitched, and she quickly came to Linghu Ning's side, reaching out to stop her: "What did you say? The Emperor went to Northern Chu?"
Linghu Ning frowned as she stared at Consort Xian, her expression calm: "Don't you know anything about this?"
Consort Xian choked with emotion, her face flushed, and she withdrew her hand: "Of course I know, but I didn't know we had arrived in Northern Chu so quickly."
"Don't worry, once the Emperor brings the antidote and I recover, I won't pose any threat to you," Linghu Ning added fuel to the fire.
Consort Xian felt uneasy upon hearing this, and roughly guessed why the Emperor of Dongying had gone to Bei Chu and personally went to Bei Chu to ask the Crown Princess for medicine!
But why hide it from yourself?
What exactly did she do wrong?
Undeterred, Consort Xian said to the palace maid, "Prepare some nourishing soup. I want to visit the Emperor in person."
Upon arriving at the main hall, she was indeed stopped. Consort Xian's face was tense: "I have not seen His Majesty for many days and I miss him dearly. Please inform him that I will only visit him briefly and then return immediately."
The young eunuch blocked his way, refusing to budge an inch.
Over time, Consort Xian grew suspicious. Upon returning to the palace, she flew into a rage and summoned her personal maid: "Go and find your mother yourself, and have her find out whether the Emperor is really in Northern Chu!"
...
Northern Chu
Two days ago, General Shen led his troops to besiege General Huo Xi in the southern border. Both sides had few troops, but General Shen's military tactics were superb. Huo Xi was caught off guard and fell into a trap, suffering serious injuries and fleeing to the border.
Song Yue sat in a chair, resting her chin on one hand, her gaze fixed on the sand table.
"Your Highness, a letter." Amber presented it.
Song Yue took the book, opened it, and glanced at it. Her smile deepened. "Go tell General Shen to prepare a welcoming banquet immediately."
The Emperor of Japan actually wants to come to Northern Chu in person.
This completely surprised her.
evening
The Emperor of Dongying led his men straight into the vicinity of the border of Northern Chu. Song Yue had changed her clothes early and was waiting at the city gate to greet them.
On horseback, the Japanese emperor looked down at everyone, his eyes filled with arrogance.
Seeing this, Song Yue did not go forward. Instead, she stood in front of the tent, one hand on her lower back, patiently waiting.
The two remained locked in a stalemate for a moment.
"The Crown Princess of Northern Chu, why haven't you come to pay your respects to the Emperor of Eastern Ying yet!" someone on the other side shouted.
Song Yue smiled and glanced at Amber.
Amber cleared her throat and stepped forward: "The Emperor of Japan has come in person. This servant has prepared a welcoming banquet here. Please dismount and attend the banquet."
She was just a palace maid, yet she personally greeted them, which meant that Northern Chu was not afraid of Dongying and did not take them seriously.
Things are different now; Northern Chu is no longer afraid of Eastern Ying.
In particular, the Japanese emperor personally signed a pledge not to attack.
She welcomes visitors.
If someone comes with an attitude of picking a fight or putting on airs, Song Yue won't tolerate it. Now that it's Northern Chu's territory, she's the one who calls the shots!
The Emperor of Dongying did not dismount for a long time. His gaze fell on Song Yue immediately, and his eyes flashed with murderous intent. He said with a stern face, "Is this how Northern Chu treats its guests?"
Song Yue then smiled and said, "The Emperor of Japan has come uninvited. Northern Chu was not well prepared. Please forgive the Emperor of Japan."
The two locked eyes. The Emperor of Dongying remembered his purpose for coming. After a moment of stalemate, he dismounted and walked straight toward Song Yue.
General Shen stopped the man.
The Japanese emperor frowned, displeased.
"People can go in, but weapons are not allowed. You will need to be searched!" General Shen said.
The Emperor of Japan looked at General Shen with a somewhat familiar gaze, but was angered by his words; "How dare you! How can my personal guards be searched?"
"This is the rule of Northern Chu!" General Shen insisted.
"You!" The Emperor of Japan choked on his words.
Left with no other option, the Japanese emperor had to compromise.
General Shen personally searched the guards and removed all their weapons before letting them in.
A banquet had been set up inside the huge tent, with the main seats on the left and right. The Emperor of Dongying sneered, "Even if the Emperor of Beichu came in person today, he would have to sit below me. The mere Crown Princess has to sit on equal footing with me. Aren't you afraid people will laugh their heads off if word gets out?"
Song Yue bent down to sit, raised her head to look up at the tall and mighty emperor in front of her, completely ignoring his oppressive aura.
"Northern Chu is no longer what it used to be, and Dongying is no longer what it was a few years ago. Now that we've entered the camp, what's wrong with adapting to local customs?"
