Chapter 236 A small punishment but a big warning

The fifth prince sat in a chair and picked up a brush to write scriptures.

The old lady thought that someone like the Fifth Prince would definitely not be able to copy scriptures, and that he would not have the patience to do so. She believed that he would find an excuse to give up in less than half an hour.

But the Fifth Prince spent three whole hours copying, without ever raising his head or stopping his hands.

This exhausted the old lady; her knees ached and felt numb, and she was so thirsty that she couldn't even drink a sip of water.

The Fifth Prince replied without looking up, "Madam, you must be single-minded when reciting scriptures, otherwise the Bodhisattva will be angry and your whole family will suffer the consequences."

The old lady's eyes widened, her heart pounding.

"Keep reading!" the Fifth Prince said.

The old lady gritted her teeth and continued reading.

Before they knew it, evening had fallen. As darkness fell, the old woman at the door would occasionally peek over, but she dared not interrupt them.

He waited until the Grand Madam slumped to the ground before the Fifth Prince raised his head upon hearing the sound, looking blankly at the sky outside the door: "It's so late."

The old lady rubbed her knees, certain that the Fifth Prince had done it on purpose.

"With the Grand Madam chanting scriptures beside me, I have indeed benefited immensely. In all my years, this is the first time I have spent so long copying scriptures." The Fifth Prince stood up and glanced at the Grand Madam: "Grand Madam, you have worked hard. I will come again tomorrow."

After saying that, he left without looking back.

The old lady was furious and wanted to yell, but the nanny reminded her: "Old lady, please calm down. The fifth prince must be trying to vent his anger for the princess. Please keep your voice down."

Upon hearing this, the Dowager could only close her eyes and swallow her words, asking in a low voice, "Where is the Marquis?"

"The Marquis went out in the afternoon and never returned."

"Go and invite them!"

"yes."

The old lady sat in a chair, while two maids massaged her legs and applied ointment to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis.

After waiting for a long time, Song Kaifeng returned. On his way there, he heard about what happened that afternoon and saw his mother leaning against the daybed with a gloomy face. He went up to her and said, "Mother, the Fifth Prince is a scoundrel. You don't need to take it to heart."

The old lady snorted coldly: "This fifth prince is too audacious. He doesn't even respect the Marquis's mansion. He killed a servant of the Marquis's mansion in public. We can't let this go. We have to find a way to spread this news."

The old lady couldn't swallow this insult.

Song Kaifeng frowned.

"What?" The old lady glanced at her son.

Song Kaifeng waved his hand, dismissing everyone else, and replied in a low voice, "Mother, the Fifth Prince has been a scoundrel for quite some time now. Countless people have died at his hands, yet the Emperor always lets them off lightly. The Fifth Prince is shameless; he has long since forgotten his reputation."

"So you're just going to let him do as he pleases?" The old lady was somewhat indignant.

"Mother, please calm down. The Fifth Prince always listens to Jia Hua. I will go to Yuehua Pavilion later and ask Jia Hua to persuade the Fifth Prince."

After much deliberation, the old lady realized that this was the only option.

We had no choice but to give up.

"That bastard copied for a full five hours." The old lady got angry as soon as she mentioned the afternoon, when he knelt for five hours without eating or drinking and had to recite scriptures.

Song Kaifeng offered a few more words of comfort, then glanced at the scriptures on the long table, unable to suppress his curiosity, he picked them up and took a look.

The scriptures were familiar, but the characters were sharp and powerful, as if the brushstrokes were about to tear the paper apart, exuding a murderous aura.

This is hardly a scripture.

I guarantee the Empress Dowager would be furious if she saw this.

Song Kaifeng's lips twitched as he presented the scriptures. The Grand Madam glanced at them and her lips trembled. "What does the Fifth Prince mean by this? Does he intend to kill me?"

"Mother, I will go find Jia Hua and ask him for an explanation."

"No, have Jia Hua come over right now. I want to ask her what she means by deliberately making things difficult for this old woman."

Unable to dissuade the old lady, Song Kaifeng nodded.

When he arrived at Yuehua Pavilion, he heard a baby crying. He frowned, took a few steps, and then the crying stopped. Princess Jiahua carefully placed the child in the cradle, a gentle smile on her face.

Bang!

A loud bang.

"Wow...wow..."

The child was frightened and cried incessantly.

Princess Jiahua was heartbroken. She bent down and hugged the child, pacing back and forth to comfort him. When she turned her head, she saw Song Kaifeng standing at the door, and the door, which he had been kicking, was still creaking and shaking.

"What are you doing?" Princess Jiahua asked angrily.

"What are you doing?" Song Kaifeng said irritably, "If you hadn't been spouting nonsense in front of the Fifth Prince, would the Fifth Prince have gone to bother Mother?"

Princess Jia Hua was unaware that the Fifth Prince had gone to Ning An Hall, and was somewhat surprised. Her face turned cold.

“Mother has been kneeling for five hours and still can’t get up. Go and explain to her,” Song Kaifeng said, glancing with disgust at the swaddling clothes in Princess Jiahua’s hands.

Xiu Shu took the swaddled baby from Princess Jia Hua's arms and gently coaxed him a couple of times. Princess Jia Hua hesitated, curious about what the Fifth Prince had done, so she followed him.

Upon arriving at Ning'an Hall, the long table immediately came into view.

"You've finally come! I've been tortured for five hours and you didn't even come once. How cruel you are!" The Grand Madam cursed, unable to hold back her anger and venting it on Princess Jiahua.

When Princess Jia Hua saw the scriptures on the table, a smile inexplicably appeared on her face. No wonder she was raised by her.

Her temper was just as fiery as hers.

She recognized all the characters in the scripture, but they all looked like the characters for "kill".

“If the Fifth Prince comes again tomorrow, you should personally explain to him and tell him not to come again.” Song Kaifeng said, “I will not hold the suffering my mother endured today against her.”

Princess Jia Hua raised her eyes and glanced at Song Kaifeng, then sneered, "Why doesn't the Marquis say this to the Fifth Prince himself?"
