The Southern Emperor felt a little guilty under the gaze, pursed his lips, but still spoke with righteous indignation: "That woman was originally offered to me. It was he who stole my woman!"
The Empress rubbed her ears impatiently. Over the years, she had figured out the Southern Emperor's temper all too well; he was incorrigible.
"Empress, Empress." The Emperor of Southern Xinjiang approached the Empress: "Seventh Prince has always listened to you. Please help me, and I can guarantee that I will never touch the Seventh Prince's Consort again."
Three years ago, if the Empress hadn't spoken up, the Seventh Prince could have assassinated the Emperor on the spot.
The Empress's face was cold, her fingers clenched tightly. If the Emperor of Southern Xinjiang hadn't forcibly made her Empress, how could she have ended up in this kind of relationship with him?
"Seventh Prince's biggest weakness in life is that he values emotions too much. If the Emperor continues to be stubborn, no one can save you."
The Empress glanced at the handkerchief on the ground: "I can only help you for a while, not forever. Your Majesty, you should take care of yourself."
The Emperor of Southern Xinjiang panicked: "Empress, if I die, you will be a widow."
The Empress slowly turned around and looked at the Southern Xinjiang Emperor with a cold gaze. This one look made the Southern Xinjiang Emperor's scalp tingle. He swallowed hard and took two steps back.
"I have been all alone for so many years. What difference is there between me and a widow?" The Empress said in a low voice, "Instead of threatening me, Your Majesty should think about how to reconcile with the Seventh Prince."
After saying this, the empress strode away.
The Emperor of Southern Xinjiang clenched his fists, his chest heaving.
Before they could even react, a guard brought them a box of Buddhist scriptures and replaced all the maids with eunuchs, completely changing everything inside and outside the Xuanhe Palace.
The emperor of the Southern Frontier was in a panic.
But the thought of the Seventh Prince's imminent return made her hold back.
It's just for show; anyone can do that.
...
A few days later
The seventh prince returned in triumph, and his army besieged the city. The people lined the streets to welcome him, and firecrackers were set off continuously.
Princess Jiahua stood in the crowd, gazing at the young man on horseback. Three years had passed, and his face had become more resolute, his eyes sharper, and his complexion slightly rougher, but he was still handsome.
Many young girls blushed when they saw this.
Suddenly, the Seventh Prince raised his head and his gaze found Princess Jia Hua precisely. His sharp eyes softened instantly.
Princess Jia Hua smiled slightly.
"Welcome back to the capital, Your Highness."
Everyone knelt down.
The Seventh Prince raised his hand: "No need for formalities, please rise."
"Thank you, Your Highness."
The Seventh Prince sent someone to tell Princess Jia Hua to go to the palace first and return to her residence later. Princess Jia Hua's brow furrowed, and she suddenly remembered the Hongmen Banquet at the Third Prince's residence a few days ago. She took out a letter from her bosom and handed it over.
"Give it to Your Highness."
"yes."
Princess Jia Hua only felt relieved enough to return home after seeing the Seventh Prince receive the letter.
...
On his way to the palace, he opened the letter. It contained only a few words: Do not relinquish military power.
The seventh prince clenched the letter, shattered it with his inner force, and casually tossed it into the air. Before entering the palace, he left half of his trusted confidants at the palace gate.
"Seventh Imperial Brother, you're finally back."
The Third Prince hurried over, his face beaming with satisfaction: "I knew you would win."
The Seventh Prince smiled slightly.
Then the Third Prince quickly began to talk about what had happened in the past three years, and mentioned that he had a son a few days ago. The Seventh Prince congratulated him.
"The war outside is over, you should take a rest. With your status, you can marry a few more wives and have children soon."
He had never thought about having children.
After much conversation, the topic finally turned to the Emperor of Southern Xinjiang.
“Over the years, Father has realized his mistakes and has been copying scriptures and praying for blessings every day without fail. Seventh Prince, I think Father has truly repented.” The Third Prince stared cautiously at the Seventh Prince.
The seventh prince's expression was inscrutable, and he hummed but remained silent.
"The Empress's health is deteriorating, and she has fallen ill again these days." The Third Prince sighed, "She has suffered a lot these past few years."
After hesitating for a moment, the Seventh Prince decided to go to Fengyi Palace to pay his respects.
The third prince accompanied them.
A strong, pungent smell of medicine wafted from Fengyi Palace. The Seventh Prince frowned, and coughs could be heard from inside from time to time.
"Seventh...Seventh Prince?" The palace maid asked in surprise and hurriedly went back to report.
Before long, the Empress emerged, supported by a palace maid. She wore a plain long dress with only a few red hairpins in her hair. Her skin was snow-white, but she looked unbearably tired under her eyes. When she saw the Seventh Prince return, she smiled and said, "Seventh Prince, you're back."
The seventh prince bowed to the empress and said, "Your subject greets Your Majesty."
The Empress waved her hand and hurriedly ordered people to prepare a welcoming banquet. The Seventh Prince said, "Mother, there is no need to trouble yourself. Prime Minister Yan has already prepared a celebration banquet."
"Look how confused I am! Today is a victory celebration banquet, you should reward the troops. Tomorrow, come to Fengyi Palace for a family feast," the Empress said with a smile.
Before the Seventh Prince could speak, the Third Prince responded first: "Seventh Prince, you have no idea how much the Empress Dowager misses you. She burns incense and prays, eats vegetarian food and chants Buddhist prayers, all hoping for your safe return."
The Empress took out a handkerchief, held it to her lips, and coughed lightly, glancing at the Seventh Prince out of the corner of her eye.
The Seventh Prince lowered his eyes and said, "Thank you, Mother."
"We're family, no need for formalities." The Empress's eyes were full of pride as she kept praising how amazing the Seventh Prince was.
This made the Third Prince a little jealous. He pouted and said, "If I hadn't fallen off my horse back then and still don't dare to ride a horse, I might be able to go into battle and kill the enemy."
The Empress covered her mouth and smiled: "One war god is enough for the Southern Frontier. If there are two, how will the others survive?"
During their casual conversation, the Empress sighed and said, "Seventh Prince, go and take a look at Xuanhe Palace."
The seventh prince bid farewell to the empress and went to Xuanhe Palace. When he opened the door, he was greeted by a floor covered with papers. He bent down to pick them up and found that they were all scriptures.
