The empress slit her wrists...
Princess Jia Hua subconsciously glanced at the Seventh Prince beside her. His expression darkened slightly, his jaw tightened, and his fingers clenched tightly. But it was only for a moment before he turned his head away and asked, "Have you summoned the imperial physician?"
"The Empress refused to let the imperial physician examine her, and even the kneeling palace servants' pleas were of no use."
So it seems that the Seventh Prince has to go there in person before they'll give up.
The seventh prince remained silent for a moment.
Anxiety and hesitation were clearly visible in his eyes.
"Go and see, I'm fine," Princess Jiahua advised.
The Seventh Prince looked at Princess Jia Hua with a troubled expression, then stood up and said, "I'll go take a look."
As soon as the person left, Xiu Shu couldn't help but ask, "Your Highness clearly did it on purpose, so why did you still send His Highness away?"
“If he doesn’t go, he’ll be distracted. If something really happens to that lady, I will be held responsible even if I die a thousand deaths.” Princess Jiahua shook her head.
After all, we've grown up together, and this is a matter of life and death; how can we turn a blind eye to it?
Moreover, the Empress was not actually guilty of some things; the real crimes were covered up by the Yan family.
“But…” Xiu Shu looked out the window at the Seventh Prince’s receding figure and knew that it would be useless to say anything, so she simply shut up and focused on chatting with Princess Jia Hua about other things. This journey lasted for a whole day.
News came back in the evening that Empress Yan had lost too much blood and was unconscious, and her life was in danger. All the imperial physicians were waiting at Fengyi Palace.
"This servant heard that the Third Prince and His Highness had a quarrel and even came to blows," Xiu Shu replied cautiously.
Princess Jia Hua raised an eyebrow, somewhat puzzled.
Seeing that she did not stop her, Xiu Shu continued, "The Third Prince complained that the Seventh Prince was too disrespectful to his elders and did not care about family ties. He also said that the Empress had been too biased towards the Seventh Prince's family over the years. As a result, after the Seventh Prince returned victorious, he changed completely and was just pretending all along. In a fit of anger, Xiu Shu punched the Seventh Prince, and the two of them started fighting in Fengyi Palace."
Princess Jia Hua frowned. The Third Prince was not the kind of person who would act so rashly and impulsively. If he were to ascend to the throne, he would still need the support of the Seventh Prince.
It was getting dark outside.
Princess Jiahua, however, was not sleepy at all, and sat up in the porch.
I didn't sleep all night
The next morning, news came from the palace again that after confessing to all her crimes, Lady Yan hanged herself. By the time her maid found her, she was already stiff.
Princess Jia Hua's face paled slightly.
"The Yan family... Prime Minister Yan is truly ruthless. For the sake of his future, he can't even care about the years of marital affection."
"What does this mean, Master?"
“I said, the Empress’s illness has resolved the Yan family’s crisis.”
...
Phoenix Palace
After a day and a night of turmoil, Empress Yan's life was finally saved, and the entire Imperial Hospital breathed a sigh of relief.
The imperial physician repeatedly warned, "Her Majesty's health is already weak and she cannot withstand any stimulation. Otherwise, even a celestial being could not save her."
No sooner had she finished speaking than a young eunuch came to report that Madam Yan had hanged herself.
The seventh prince reacted quickly and kicked the little eunuch away, but he couldn't finish his sentence and could only whimper.
The Seventh Prince chased after him, shouting, "You blind fool! Who gave you permission to come in and report?"
The little eunuch panicked and kept kowtowing to the Seventh Prince to apologize. Soon, a purplish-blue mark appeared on his forehead. The Seventh Prince glanced at the little eunuch and asked him what had happened.
The Third Prince, who had caught up from behind, sneered upon hearing this and looked at the Seventh Prince: "Look, you've taken another life, and it's your teacher's wife. You're so ruthless in your pursuit of power. Seventh Prince, just say you want that position. Why hide it and cause all this trouble?"
Upon hearing this, the Seventh Prince looked at the Third Prince with great displeasure, and moved his lips. The guard beside him quickly advised, "Your Highness, please calm down. This is not the place to argue."
The seventh prince suppressed his anger.
The Third Prince scoffed, "I'd like to see how you explain this to the Empress!"
Empress Yan has been lying in bed for two days without showing any signs of waking up.
Midway through, the Seventh Prince went back to visit Princess Jia Hua: "The Empress is still not sure when she will wake up, so I can't take care of you for the time being. You should go back to the Seventh Prince's residence first, then I can rest assured."
"good."
Princess Jiahua returned to the Seventh Prince's residence by carriage. As the carriage passed the Yan family's residence, she lifted the curtain and saw that white lanterns were already hanging at the entrance of the Yan family's residence, with a large character for "sacrifice" written on them.
Not long after returning to the manor, the Third Prince's Consort sent someone to bring Xiangzhu's child. Princess Jiahua frowned as she looked at the small, thin child.
Upon seeing Princess Jiahua, Chun-ge'er hid behind the servants, looking timid and fearful. His large, dark eyes were filled with terror, and he pouted as if he was about to burst into tears.
Princess Jia Hua smiled and beckoned to Chun Ge'er: "Come here."
Chun-ge hesitated.
“I am your aunt. From today onwards, will you stay with me?” Princess Jiahua softened her voice, her eyes slightly red, as she thought of Yue’er and Chuan’er, whom she hadn’t seen for several years.
Yue-jie should be about the same age as Chun-ge by now.
I wonder how her Yue-jie is doing now.
Chun-ge'er carefully moved closer to her, and the two grew much closer in just one morning. Princess Jiahua noticed his ill-fitting clothes and had someone bring some fabric to make clothes for Chun-ge'er.
She dressed him up completely, inside and out, and as she watched Chun-ge'er devour the snacks, her eyes welled up with tears again.
"Although Princess Xiangzhu married a merchant, I heard she is not short of money, and she is also related to the Third Prince's residence. How could she even skimp on the food for a child?" Xiushu's eyes also reddened. She touched Chun'er's thin and frail body, sniffed, and muttered, "How much can a child eat?"
