Not yet.
"Bring him to my residence; I want to interrogate him personally."
General Zuo nodded excitedly.
The mansion returned to silence.
Xiu Shu applied ointment to Princess Jia Hua's face. It felt cool and comfortable. Xiu Shu's eyes reddened and she couldn't help but ask, "Master, when will this end?"
"Within one month."
Although Xiu Shu didn't understand why her master insisted on going back, and why he was in such a hurry.
But once a master has made up his mind, no one can stop him.
Three days passed uneventfully.
At midday, a gentle breeze blew. Princess Jiahua sat by the pond, watching the koi swimming among the water, when Xiushu delivered a letter.
"My lord, it was sent by the Third Prince's Consort."
Princess Jiahua opened the letter, revealing Xiangzhu's handwriting. It stated that her husband's family had given her a divorce agreement, returned the child to her, and allowed her to leave the southern border.
Xiangzhu wished she could personally kowtow to Princess Jiahua, and said that she would pray for her to have a smooth life for the rest of her days. If she returned to Beichu, she would do everything she could to find the two children and protect them with all her might.
After reading the letter, she smiled.
It's not really a second chance.
In a good mood, I fed the fish a lot more. Watching the koi swimming in the pond, I casually glanced up and my gaze fell on the neighboring yard.
Separated by a wall.
The scent of pear blossoms still lingered at the tip of my nose.
"Master, what are you looking at?" Xiu Shu asked, puzzled.
Princess Jia Hua raised her chin slightly: "The weather is dry. If the courtyard catches fire, won't it affect the neighbors?"
Xiu Shu was startled by Princess Jia Hua's words.
Night deepened
The mansion suddenly caught fire, and Princess Jiahua sat in the house watching the fire grow bigger and bigger. She was not in a hurry and kept calculating the time.
From the Seventh Prince's residence to the mansion, it would take the time it takes to burn three incense sticks at a fast horse.
The blazing fire burned around her, its light making her face flush red. Her breathing quickened as she slowly stood up. Xiu Shu shouted from outside, "Help! There's an assassin!"
Princess Jia Hua fainted in the room upon hearing the order.
She felt someone rush in, pull her into their arms, and rush out. A cool breeze swept over her, and the Seventh Prince's voice came from above: "Jiahua, Jiahua, wake up."
"doctor!"
The Seventh Prince's roar echoed throughout the entire courtyard.
Soon the doctor arrived and confirmed that Princess Jiahua had been drugged with a hallucinogenic drug from the Western Regions, which was why she was unconscious. Xiushu knelt before the Seventh Prince: "Your Highness, this servant... this servant saw with my own eyes the man in black jump over the wall and go to the Huo family."
"I also saw a figure," the guard said.
The seventh prince frowned.
"Today, as usual, Master was chanting sutras and praying for blessings. I was making pastries in the kitchen. When I returned, the door was tightly closed, and fire was shooting out of the room..."
Several guards also said, "The fire spread too quickly, and other places are also on fire. We don't have enough manpower in the manor."
The seventh prince roared, "Then we should save people first!"
"Your subordinate deserves to die." The guard knelt down.
The fire spread to the neighboring house, setting it ablaze. The neighboring house also became lively. The Seventh Prince immediately sent people to put out the fire and ordered, "Send men to surround the Huo family's house and find the assassin."
"yes."
The Huo family's residence was surrounded.
The Seventh Prince stayed by Princess Jiahua's side until she took the antidote and slowly woke up. Princess Jiahua was shocked: "I...I saw the Second Prince."
"Second Imperial Brother?"
“It’s him!” Princess Jia Hua trembled as she clutched the Seventh Prince’s sleeve. “I can’t mistake him for someone else. Back in Northern Chu, I met the Second Prince once, but I never offended him. Why would he kill me?”
Princess Jia Hua looked disheveled, her clothes were on fire, her fingertips were dirty, and she looked anxiously at the door: "Who did I offend that they want me dead?"
"No, no, I won't let you die." The Seventh Prince held Princess Jia Hua's hand tightly and kept assuring her.
Only after the person fell into a deep sleep again did the Seventh Prince order Xiu Shu to stay by his side at all times.
He turned and went next door.
Huo Yun was woken up by his servants in the middle of the night. He hurriedly put on his coat and went out. When he saw flames raging in the direction next door, his eyelids twitched.
Ever since the Seventh Prince came to borrow the scriptures, the Huo family has been in constant turmoil.
"Quickly, send people to put out the fire!"
The Huo family was wide awake, and the servants rushed to put out the fire.
Huo Yun's heart was pounding. When he looked up, he saw the Seventh Prince enter with a dark face, which frightened Huo Yun so much that he was about to kneel down and kowtow.
"Your Highness..."
“The assassin next door is hiding in the Huo family’s residence. General Huo, please have the women get up first. I need to send people to search the place.”
Huo Yun's eyes widened: "This, this isn't right, how could an assassin be in the Huo family?"
The Seventh Prince frowned. When he first tried to overturn the case against the Huo family, Huo Yun's attitude was already a bit off, and now he was stammering and unwilling to search the mansion.
There must be something fishy going on.
“My men saw the assassin scale the wall and get in. For the safety of the women in the manor, we should search the manor as soon as possible.”
Huo Yun could not resist the seventh prince's obstinacy and had no choice but to comply.
"Search the mansion in half an hour!" the Seventh Prince ordered.
Huo Yun's face was gloomy.
Half an hour later, the Huo family's house was brightly lit, as if it were daytime, and the fire connecting the two houses had been extinguished.
"search!"
At a command
The Imperial Guards broke into the Huo family home, still searching.
Inside the main hall, Old Madam Huo was extremely anxious, frequently glancing towards the door to see what was happening. Huo Yun tried to go out several times, but was stopped by the guards each time.
"The Huo family has lived here for so many years without any misfortune, but something bad happened as soon as someone moved in," Old Madam Huo muttered to herself.
