Chapter 48 Disdain for Sitting in a High Hall

A maroon carriage was parked in front of the Duke of Jingguo's mansion, led by a pair of snow-white lion-like horses, which stood tall and proud as if they had won a battle.

In the sunlight, its snow-white fur shone with an astonishing brilliance.

The carriage curtain was lifted, and a woman in a blue dress stepped down with a respectful expression. She raised her arm, bent down, and carefully helped the person inside the carriage down.

The woman landed, wearing a light pink long dress with peony flowers swaying in the breeze, a pale yellow shawl draped over her arm, and moon-white brocade shoes inlaid with pearls. She took a step, her figure graceful and charming.

From behind, the woman's jet-black hair was pulled back into a bun, adorned with a small red-gold phoenix crown. Two phoenix hairpins were inserted diagonally on each side, the hairpins so lifelike they seemed ready to take flight at any moment.

This outfit clearly indicates that the person is either very rich or of high status.

Looking at the woman, her oval face was smooth and delicate, her eyes and brows sparkling like stars. She was extremely well-maintained and there wasn't a single wrinkle on her face.

With a slight lift of her chin, she revealed exquisite features, instantly captivating everyone with her beauty.

"This... Princess Jia Hua?"

Someone in the crowd recognized the woman.

Isn't that Princess Jia Hua, who disappeared thirteen years ago?

Princess Jia Hua's eyes darted quickly through the crowd, her pace quickening, and her maidservants hurriedly followed behind.

"Mother!"

Princess Jia Hua suddenly paused.

With tears in his eyes, Song Hengchuan walked excitedly toward her, then his knees buckled and he knelt on the ground: "Your unfilial son greets you, Mother, you've finally returned."

Looking at Song Hengchuan, Princess Jiahua frowned, her face showing no joy but rather sarcasm: "I am not worthy of being called 'mother' by Young Master Song."

Song Hengchuan was taken aback.

Everyone else present was stunned.

Could it be that Princess Jia Hua has gone senile after being away for several years and doesn't even recognize her own son?

“Mother, I know you must be upset that your son hasn’t visited you all these years. You can punish me if you want, please calm down.” Song Hengchuan kowtowed: “Mother, today is my big day, and you’ve just returned. How about we catch up later?”

Princess Jia Hua had no time to pay attention to Song Hengchuan. She slightly raised her eyelids and suddenly saw a small figure. She immediately couldn't hold back her tears and swayed.

“Princess, that’s a young lady,” the maid said.

Princess Jia Hua felt as if her feet weighed a ton, and she couldn't even take a step.

"Mother." Song Hengchuan was still talking to himself, hoping that Princess Jiahua would not cause trouble today so that he could get married smoothly. He reached out to grab Princess Jiahua's sleeve, but before he could touch her, she flung him away.

Song Hengchuan was taken aback.

Princess Jia Hua walked step by step toward the little girl on the steps. Song Yue sniffed, and the tears she had been holding back for so long burst forth at this moment. She called out "Mother" in a small voice.

"My son!" Princess Jiahua pulled him into her arms, choking back tears, "It's because your mother is late, you've been wronged."

At this moment, Song Yue finally truly experienced what it means to be favored.

Her mother didn't even glance at Song Hengchuan, but the first person she looked at was actually herself. Song Yue was excited and took a deep sniff of her mother's scent.

It smells so good.

Princess Jia Hua traveled through the night, avoiding countless assassination attempts, and all the hardships she endured finally felt worthwhile at this moment.

She carefully created some distance and gently touched Song Yue's cheek: "From now on, with your mother here, if anyone dares to bully you again, I'll tear them apart!"

Song Yue was stunned. In front of so many people, her mother actually said such domineering words.

She really did take after her mother.

Ignored by everyone behind him, Song Hengchuan snapped out of his daze amidst the mocking laughter of the crowd. Gritting his teeth, he reluctantly got up and approached Princess Jiahua again. "Mother, today is my wedding day. Can we discuss anything privately?"

Princess Jia Hua scoffed, "You've mistaken me for someone else. Your mother is sitting in the main hall."

One sentence made Yuan Fuling immediately uneasy, her face burning with embarrassment. She looked at the Duke of Jingguo with a wronged expression, but the Duke of Jingguo could no longer care about Yuan Fuling at this moment. He slowly stood up and walked towards Princess Jiahua, calling out awkwardly, "Jiahua, you're back."

Princess Jia Hua raised an eyebrow and glanced sideways at Duke Jingguo, her anger clearly visible in her eyes. Duke Jingguo looked away guiltily.

"Alright, since the Duke's mansion is celebrating a happy occasion, I won't disturb you any longer." Princess Jiahua smiled gently, taking Song Yue's hand: "Let's go to Yuehua Pavilion."

Song Yue nodded obediently, her previous hostility completely gone.

"Wait!" Duke Jingguo awkwardly stepped forward to block his way: "Today is Chuan Ge'er's wedding, so you should naturally accept the grand ceremony."

Duke Jingguo turned his head and winked at Yuan Fuling. Yuan Fuling gritted her teeth, her face turning pale and then red, and stood up reluctantly: "Yes, Princess, if you leave now, wouldn't that be disrespectful to Cai Chuan? After all, you are his birth mother, and so many people are watching. Don't delay the auspicious time."

These words seemed to imply that as long as Princess Jia Hua didn't sit down, it meant she didn't care about her own son, Song Hengchuan, and was acting recklessly and trampling on the dignity of the Duke's mansion, which would surely anger a group of people.

Song Yue pursed her lips, somewhat worried about the current situation.

"The kindness of giving birth to and raising a child is greater than heaven. Since he has recognized you as his mother, how could I possibly take away what belongs to someone else? Chuan-ge'er, from today onwards you are Yuan Fuling's biological son. The person you will have to be filial to in the future is your adoptive mother. Don't worry, I will never be jealous."

Princess Jia Hua's words once again shocked everyone.

Does this mean they won't even recognize their own son when he comes back?

"What are you saying? Chuan-ge'er is your own son..." Duke Jingguo hurriedly tried to smooth things over, but Princess Jiahua raised her hand to interrupt him: "I don't care about these things, and I don't want to make things difficult for Chuan-ge'er. Besides, I have limited energy and really don't have time to take care of Chuan-ge'er, who is already married."
