Chapter 20

The apprentice had never seen such a cold gaze before; it was as if the eyes wanted to devour him.

Is this really the gentle and kind-hearted third young lady I remember?

He struggled to find his voice: "I...I'll go and tell the shopkeeper."

Chu Zujian's private seal was almost equivalent to his own, but it wasn't actually his own. He could withdraw valuable medicinal herbs, but kidnapping the second young master was a much bigger deal, and he didn't dare to make that decision.

Chu Jinjin slowly followed them inside.

If the shopkeeper reacts the same way, he can pack his bags and leave.

Fortunately, the shopkeeper was a high-ranking official and knew a bit about the inside story. He paused for a moment, then solemnly accepted the private seal and respectfully asked, "Third Miss, the master once instructed that seeing the private seal is the same as seeing the person in person, but there are only seven guards in the pharmacy. If we encounter any obstacles, I'm afraid we won't be able to complete this task."

Chu Jinjin understood what he was worried about.

As a renowned wealthy merchant family, the Chu family employs over a hundred guards, each one a highly skilled individual.

Now that the father is in a coma, these people will probably only listen to the stepmother.

"If someone tries to stop you, don't force them." Chu Jinjin quickly sorted out the situation and said softly, "Find a way to tell my grandfather."

The shopkeeper bowed deeply and turned to greet the others.

All the doctors from the pharmacy came and surrounded Chu Zujian, occasionally whispering among themselves.

Chu Jinjin didn't disturb them. She hadn't stopped or eaten or drunk anything on her way from Black Eagle Mountain Village to the capital. Even though she came from the apocalypse, she couldn't hold on any longer. Her eyelids felt heavier and heavier, and the doctor's discussion suddenly seemed very distant.

One of the female healers saw this and whispered, "Third Miss, please don't sleep here. There's a place for doctors to rest in the backyard. Shall I help you there?"

Chu Jinjin was half asleep when she sensed someone approaching. Subconsciously, she knew the other person meant no harm, so she casually pushed them away.

She's not going anywhere; she's waiting here.

Her eyes were closed, so she couldn't see what was happening.

The female doctor was pushed so hard she stumbled and finally sat down on the ground, covering her mouth in shock.

The third young lady is so strong!

Chu Jinjin entered the sleep mode she was used to in the apocalypse, sleeping while also being awake. When she heard hurried footsteps outside, she instantly opened her eyes.

The door was pushed open with a thud, and a group of people rushed in.

At the very front were the legal mother, Lady Wang, and Chu Yan.

Wang seemed completely unaware of her existence. Chu Yan glanced at her, hesitated, and ultimately said nothing.

Next was Madam He from the third branch of the family, and the person supporting her was, of course, Chu Liang, the third young master of the Chu family.

Then there's the second wife and her daughter.

This is an unwritten rule: legitimate children come before illegitimate children, and male children come before female children.

Chu Jinjin smiled at her mother who was at the very back.

A mother is a mother.

She went to Black Eagle Mountain Stronghold alone, and now she is in a sorry state. At most, everyone would only glance at her and then rush to the head of the family, Chu Zujian.

Only Liu's eyes immediately reddened: "Jinjin, where are you hurt? Does it hurt?"

Sometimes, people live just for a single sentence or a single person.

Chu Jinjin shook her head, her voice hoarse yet gentle: "I'm not injured. The blood on my body is my father's."

Only then did Madam Liu feel relieved, and she hugged Yingying tightly, sobbing, "Mother was so worried about you. I even dreamed last night that you came back and brought me so many gifts."

Chu Jinjin: "......"

She thought she was dreaming about being injured or something.

All I can say is that her mother was truly an extraordinary woman.

Thinking of something, Madam Liu pushed her away, glanced at the crowd, and whispered in her ear, "Be careful of the First Madam. She was so angry that she slapped the pharmacy manager."

Chu Jinjin didn't see the pharmacy manager, nor did she see the second brother, so she had already guessed pretty much what was going on.

After fulfilling her duties as a mother, Madam Liu reported what she knew and pitifully pleaded, "Jin, you stay here for now, I'll go check on your father."

After saying that, she wiped away her tears: "Master, Master, Ayi is here. You can't leave Ayi behind and go first."

Chu Jinjin: "......."

My dear mother, aside from everything else, is absolutely top-notch at creating a lively atmosphere.

"Wailing like a mourner? The master isn't dead yet. Shut up! If you want to wail, go home. If you disturb the master, don't blame me for using family discipline." Madam Wang's imposing aura erupted. Her gaze sharpened as she turned to the group of doctors. "Continue, what is the master's current condition?"

Chu Jinjin understood that this anger was actually directed at her.

Chu Jinjin supported herself on her thighs and slowly stood up, asking directly, "Mother, where is my second brother?"

Wang's body visibly trembled, and after a moment she met Chu Jinjin's gaze: "Why did you have your second brother tied up?"

Chu Jinjin said calmly, "Because he colluded with Black Eagle Mountain Stronghold to kidnap my father."

One sentence instantly silenced the atmosphere.

Everyone wasn't stupid; they knew there was a traitor in the Chu family, and they understood that it was probably related to the second son. But when they actually heard it, they still couldn't accept it.

The son kidnapped his father.

He was still the most favored second son.

Wang's face was ashen: "Is there any evidence?"

Chu Jinjin answered truthfully: "No."

Jie Du said nothing and could not testify.

"No evidence, heh." Madam Wang sneered. "Chu Jinjin, I think you're the traitor. Black Eagle Mountain Stronghold is so powerful that even the government can't do anything about it. You alone, in less than four days, rescued the master. Are you a god descended to earth? Can one person defeat the entire Black Eagle Mountain Stronghold?"

Chu Jinjin didn't explain, but looked at Chu Yan: "Big brother, is there anything you want to say?"

Wang's reaction was not unexpected.

No matter the circumstances, a mother's first instinct is to protect her son, even if he has made a terrible mistake.

But it is still flesh and blood that fell from my own body.

But Chu Yan knew some of the inside story.

Chu Yan looked troubled, and finally lowered his head: "Third sister, there must be a misunderstanding here. It can't be second brother."

"Very good." Chu Jinjin nodded, stretched her limbs, and glanced outside. "Mother, next, are you going to tie me up and interrogate me?"

She discovered it long ago.

At least several dozen of the family's guards arrived outside.
