Chapter 96 War

Most people breathed a sigh of relief, their first reaction being that the officers and soldiers had tricked them, sending someone to impersonate Li Dahua's brother.

Chu Jinjin, however, thought of a possibility and grabbed Li Dahua's arm to comfort her: "Dahua, don't be afraid, your husband is here."

"You bunch of big bad guys, you actually lied to me." Li Dahua suddenly felt a sense of security, like a dog being led by its owner, full of confidence. "That's not my brother, nor my parents. Get lost, or I'll beat you to death."

After saying that, she whispered to Chu Jinjin as if she had discovered a huge secret: "Husband, that's not my brother, nor my parents."

In her memory, her younger brother was small and weak, barely reaching her knees.

The one who calls her "sister" is a teenager, and they don't look alike. Her brother isn't that ugly.

Children grow up so fast, they change almost every day. Not to mention that her mind is not mature, even adults might not be able to keep up if they are not seen for too long.

Li Dahua scratched her head and asked in confusion, "But husband, those two adults look a lot like Dahua's parents."

Chu Jinjin suppressed a laugh and said seriously, "Sorcery!"

Li Dahua's mouth dropped open in shock: "Sorcery?"

"Is Da Hua confused? The two adults look a lot like your parents, but their hair is white and their faces are wrinkled?" Chu Jinjin already understood what was going on and coaxed her like telling a story, "It's because those evil Taoists know sorcery and found people to impersonate Da Hua's parents."

Li Dahua opened her mouth in shock and nodded repeatedly: "Husband, you know so much."

In a child's world, of course there are gods and ghosts; and since it was said by her husband, it must be true.

The officers and soldiers weren't fools; they quickly realized what was happening.

The blacksmith couple tried every means to prove themselves, like slaughtering a pig, by showing Li Dahua what good things they had eaten and what kind of clothes she wore for the New Year.

No matter what was said, Li Dahua didn't react at all, hiding behind Chu Jinjin and not daring to say a word.

The monster must know all this.

She was afraid of monsters.

Finally, the soldiers lost their patience and subjected the blacksmith to some form of torture, causing him to scream in agony.

Chu Jinjin covered Li Dahua's ears.

Li Dahua was moved to tears: "Husband, you are so good to me."

Perhaps this is karma coming back to haunt me.

No one, no matter how much their parents would do, could stand by and watch someone be tortured to death. But Li Dahua knew nothing; the person in front of her was a monster in disguise, not the family she had been longing for.

The blacksmith gradually fell silent.

Li Dahua's mother no longer cared about anger or sadness; she knew Li Dahua was next. She knelt on the ground and pleaded, "Sir, sir, Li Dahua is an idiot, please give me some time."

The officers and soldiers don't have that much time.

Seeing that this tactic wasn't working, they started using other methods.

A loud-voiced soldier stepped forward: "Listen up, people of Black Tiger Mountain Stronghold! We've come for Chu Jinjin. As long as you hand her over, we will absolutely not make things difficult for you. Withdraw your troops immediately."

"Is it worth risking the lives of the entire village for one woman?"

Apart from the gang leader and a few others, no one knew Chu Jinjin's background and assumed that the gang leader would persuade Li Dahua to hand Chu Jinjin over.

The world is vast, but nothing is more important than one's own life.

Many people began to look at Chu Jinjin with dissatisfaction.

The chieftain is just a child, so his words are useless, but they can work together to find a solution.

First, take control of the chieftain; then apologize afterward.

Chu Jinjin was prepared, and it was somewhat expected. She coaxed Li Dahua a few times, handed her over to the head of the gang, strode forward, and said loudly, "I am Chu Jinjin. Whoever you are calls the shots is in charge."

At the same time, the sound of bows being drawn and arrows being nocked rang out.

Chu Jinjin showed no fear and said calmly, "Believe it or not, anyone who dares to hurt me will have their entire family wiped out."

Isn't it just a psychological threat?

Their identities could no longer be kept secret, and as for the emperor's secret mission, they were all about to die, so who cared about that?

Chu Jinjin held up the gold medal high: "I have come here on the orders of the current emperor to investigate who has embezzled the imperial relief grain. Are you feeling guilty?"

Her intuition told her so.

It's not because of that. What could she possibly find out by herself? Besides, even if she did find out, it probably wouldn't be anything to be afraid of.

Such a large-scale mobilization must have other reasons.

The arrow aimed at her descended at a speed visible to the naked eye.

Nobody's stupid. With the Emperor's token, if anyone dares to make a move, not only will their entire family be wiped out, but their entire extended family will be exterminated.

Similar to the situation in the mountain stronghold, the government soldiers didn't know why they wanted to capture Chu Jinjin.

The leader and others created momentum.

"Lord Chu Jinjin is a high-ranking imperial envoy. Do you intend to rebel?"

"Why haven't you come over and paid your respects to the Imperial Envoy yet?"

"Brothers, don't be foolish! Your superiors want to rebel and are using you. Quickly kneel down and apologize. Lord Chu Jinjin is kind-hearted and won't hold it against you."

"......"

The greatest sin in the world is probably rebellion.

Even if it involves just a little bit.

Those who are paid by the military understand this best.

Seeing that the momentum was about to dissipate, the general in the center shouted: "Don't listen to her nonsense! The lord said that this Chu Jinjin forged the waist token to swindle people. Disaster relief is related to the stability of the country. The court has so many pillars of the state, why would the emperor send a woman?"

"I think you're the one talking nonsense." Chu Jinjin wasn't about to let her hard-earned momentum slip away. She raised her waist token high and shouted, "Whether it's true or not, why don't you send someone over to check and you'll know?"

The general seemed not to hear him, drawing his longbow to its full extent: "On my command, fire!"

Chu Jinjin dodged the arrows, and before she could say anything more, a hail of arrows came flying down.

That's a subconscious instinct formed by the body, and it's also a command. If the sky falls, someone taller will hold it up; they're just following orders.

The leader and his men stared in horror.

Everything happened too fast.

The place where Chu Jinjin was located was empty, with nowhere to hide.

Li Dahua could no longer control herself. She called out "Husband!" and rushed to save the man. In her haste, she mistook the bandit leader for a tree, picked him up, and carried him on her shoulder.

Chief: "...Chief, it's me."

Chu Jinjin also moved. There were indeed many arrows, but they were much, much slower than bullets. She took a step to the left, a step to the right, or turned to the side. By the time the arrows fell, she was not injured at all, not even a hair on her head.

Of course, this is on the premise that there aren't many arrows; if it really is a battle between two armies, she won't be able to escape.

Even so, it's already quite shocking.

The group of officers and soldiers had never seen such a scene before. They had thought it was a sure hit, but for a moment they thought they were seeing things.

"You all underestimate me. The Emperor sent me here alone for a reason." Chu Jinjin pulled out a fallen bow and arrow, called to Li Dahua who had run over, and said with a smile, "Dahua, come with me and kill them."

The army was several hundred meters away. This group of officers and soldiers numbered over a thousand. She herself was certainly no match for them, but with Li Dahua by her side, not a single one of them could escape.
