Chapter 103 Gan Lin is missing

At dinner time, Gan Lin still hadn't come out. Old Mrs. Gan called him through the door, but he angrily replied:

"I won't eat! You all disliked my mother and me anyway, so now that my mother is gone, you'll only be satisfied if you let me starve to death!"

When Gan Mingyi returned after seeing Sun off, he overheard his son's outrageous words, and his anger flared up immediately!

"Fine, don't eat then! I'd rather you starve than waste food!"

He grabbed her, still trying to persuade Old Lady Gan, and went into the main room with a dark face.

But as he ate, he began to have doubts again. Even he, an adult, couldn't understand what had happened today, let alone Gan Lin.

Thinking that his son was still young, he explained the reasons to him in detail, hoping that it would help him resolve his inner conflict.

So after dinner, he took the food to Gan Lin's room, but no matter how much he pleaded, the brat was like a mute and wouldn't say a word!

Gan Mingyi was not a good-tempered person to begin with, and now, provoked by his son, he flew into a rage and kicked the door open with a few quick kicks!

"You little brat, I'm going to..." He was about to curse when he found the room empty and Gan Lin nowhere to be seen.

Gan Lin has disappeared!

Upon hearing the news, Granny Gan was so frightened that she collapsed to the ground. Granny Gan was also panicked and hurriedly called Gan Mingli out to mobilize the neighbors to help find the child.

When the villagers learned that the child was missing, they were very enthusiastic. Almost every household mobilized its strong men, carrying torches to help search for the child.

However, they searched almost the entire village and even the area two miles outside the village, but still couldn't find any trace of Gan Lin!

Hearing the commotion outside, Gan Li felt something was amiss. After going out to inquire, she learned that Gan Lin had actually run away from home!

She sneered inwardly. Given this selfish nature of the boy, she never expected him to have such backbone, resorting to running away from home as a tactic.

hehe.

She thought for a moment, then walked towards the Gan family's house. Just as she reached the door, she met Gan Mingyi, who had come back to get a torch.

There were no streetlights back then, so if people needed to go out at night, they would light a fire with the hollow, dried roots of a plant to use as a torch for lighting.

Because it can only be collected once a year, every household cherishes it and considers it a resource. Now that the Gan family is asking for a favor, they naturally can't ask everyone to contribute torches again, so Gan Mingyi came back to get them.

Seeing him return, Ganli quickly grabbed him and said, "No need to look anymore, I know where he is."

Upon hearing this, Gan Mingyi excitedly asked, "Little sister, do you know where he is?"

Upon hearing this, Gan Li decisively replied, "He's already eleven years old, not a three-year-old. It's impossible for him to have been kidnapped by human traffickers. Since he's gone, he probably left on his own. Besides you, who else can he rely on?"

"You mean..."

"I think he probably went to the Sun family to see his mother."

Gan Mingyi slapped his thigh – how come he hadn't thought of that!

Knowing that his son was likely at the Sun family's house, he tried to run there, but was stopped by someone.

Old Lady Gan said, "It's so late now, how can we travel? Why don't we go tomorrow?"

It was still dark when the family was preparing dinner, and it was still bright outside. If Gan Lin had left around that time, it would have been dark by the time he arrived at the Sun family's house.

But it was already late, and it was pitch black; how could we see the road clearly?

Although Grandma Gan was also worried about her grandson, she was also worried that Gan Mingyi might get into trouble traveling in the dark, so she refused to let him go.

It was already past midnight. Gan Mingyi thought that dawn was not far away, so he calmed down and told the villagers to go back and rest. He then lay in bed and stayed awake until dawn.

As dawn broke, Gan Mingyi got up and went out. By the time he arrived at the Sun family's house, it was already broad daylight. He walked up to the Sun family's door and pounded on it loudly.

When the eldest brother of the Sun family opened the door and saw that it was Gan Mingyi, he angrily said, "Gan the Second, what's wrong with you?"

Yesterday, Gan Mingyi returned and gave the Sun family a good scolding for Sun's affair. Therefore, when Sun's eldest brother saw him, he naturally didn't give him a friendly look.

Gan Mingyi didn't bother with any more words. He grabbed the man's collar and asked through gritted teeth, "Where's my son?!"

The eldest brother of the Sun family was startled by his fierce appearance and stammered, "Gan... Gan Lin... he left with his mother this morning..."

"Gone? Where did they go?"

"I...I don't know either," the eldest brother of the Sun family said somewhat guiltily.

Just yesterday, no sooner had Gan Mingyi left than the eldest brother of the Sun family, who had been humiliated by Gan Mingyi, took it out on Sun Shi, pointing his finger at her and saying that she was shameless and disgraced the family. He said that if it weren't for the neighbors, he would have kicked her out long ago.

Sun's sister-in-law was even more sharp-tongued and mean-spirited, hurling extremely offensive insults:

"Hey little sister, if you're itchy, just pat it off with the sole of your shoe. Why are you trying to cheat on me? If word gets out, you'll be embarrassed, but what about your two nieces? With an aunt like you, they'll never be able to hold their heads up in their husband's family!"

Whether Sun's eldest sister-in-law's two daughters can hold their heads high in their husbands' family is something Sun doesn't know, but she is currently being scolded so much that she can't even lift her head.

Unfortunately, she was now living under someone else's roof and dared not retaliate. She could only silently wipe away her tears, her resentment towards Gan Mingyi growing even stronger.

When Gan Lin arrived, it was already dark. Seeing that his mother had been wronged, he shouted that he would seek justice for her.

Upon hearing this, Sun's sister-in-law flew into a rage, pointing at Sun and cursing her, saying that it was bad enough that she had come back to sponge off her parents' family, but now she wanted to bring her son along too.

The argument raged until midnight, at which point the Sun family's elder brother and sister-in-law kicked the mother and son out of their home, and no one knows where they went.
