Ganli almost burst out laughing when she heard Zhao's words.
This Zhao woman has quite the vivid imagination.
But as she laughed, her laughter faded—given Gan Tao Niang's personality, she really might be capable of doing such a thing.
However, she could not say what she thought, otherwise Zhao would probably jump up and chase Gan Tao away immediately.
She patiently offered advice from a different perspective:
"Even if Gan Tao Niang really had such thoughts, Gan Tao might not be willing. Gan Tao is a very upright girl and wouldn't do such a thing."
Zhao hesitated before saying, "You can know a person's face but not their heart. Who knows what she's thinking?"
Seeing that she was unyielding, Ganli was somewhat helpless and said seriously:
"Sister-in-law, that's not right of you. How can you make such assumptions about others when nothing has even happened? If someone falsely accuses you without any evidence, would you be happy about it?"
Zhao realized she had said the wrong thing and immediately felt breathless.
Gan Li sighed: "Sister-in-law, I don't expect you to treat her any better. Just treat her the same as everyone else, like any other employee. If she does anything wrong, then come and tell me, okay?"
After thinking for a moment, Zhao finally nodded:
"Alright, since you've put it that way, what can I say? But let me make this clear: if Gan Tao Niang really tries anything funny, I won't let her off the hook!"
Ganli finally breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that she had agreed.
Maria, who had been listening to Ganli and Zhao's conversation the whole time, secretly wiped away a bead of sweat. However, a question lingered in her mind, and after Zhao left, she eagerly asked Ganli:
[Actually, I think my sister-in-law's concerns are not without merit. Aren't you worried that Gan Tao, under her mother's influence, might also develop some wicked thoughts?]
Upon hearing this, Gan Li chuckled and shook her head, saying, "Impossible."
Maria found her increasingly strange upon seeing her resolute attitude:
Why? Before, no matter how pitiful Zhao Juan was, you never believed her. Why do you trust Gan Tao so much?
"How can that be the same?" Ganli rolled her eyes.
Zhao Juan has been selfish from beginning to end. Whether she was 'Gan Li' or Zhao Juan, she could not change this. Her pitiful state was all self-inflicted.
Gan Tao's difficult situation stems from her inability to let go of her family ties. If she could be ruthless enough to abandon that family, she could live a much better life.
Maria still didn't understand: [What does this have to do with whether she'll seduce Sweet Spring?]
Gan Li patiently explained: "All of this shows that Gan Tao is a principled person. Such a person wouldn't cross the line to do something like this."
Maria seemed to understand, but not quite: "So, if Gan Tao stops caring for her mother and brother, does that mean she has no moral compass?"
That's not quite how it works. If her family treats her well, but she chooses to abandon them when they're in trouble, that's called having no moral bottom line.
But if her family members were bloodsucking leeches, only caring about feeding on her, and she finally couldn't stand it anymore and chose to ignore them, that's called enlightenment! The two are vastly different.
Figure it out yourself.
Ganli touched her empty stomach and decided to end today's introductory lesson here.
She went to the kitchen and told her father, "There will be many people today, so make lunch more plentiful."
Old Gan wasn't a stingy person to begin with, and with his daughter's instructions, he rolled up his sleeves and cooked a lot of dishes, filling two tables.
At noon, everyone had a lively lunch, which was also a welcome-back dinner for the new 'guests'.
In the afternoon, Granny Gan and Madam Zhao continued to guide the new staff members through the various affairs of the restaurant.
The tasks were not complicated, and everyone quickly got the hang of them. Ganli then arranged for three people each to chop vegetables, wash dishes, and serve food.
The last one, the youngest, Gan Yingzi, was discovered by Gan Li to have an exceptionally good memory. She could repeat anything she had been told once, even without a note.
Therefore, Ganli arranged for someone to be at the front to take orders from the guests and also to clear the tables.
Gan Yingzi was excited and eager to try after receiving the arrangement, but since the business had not yet opened and there were no customers for her to show off her skills, she could only temporarily take a rag and a basin to the front to wipe the tables.
In the evening, when Gan Tian came home from school, she immediately saw Gan Yingzi wiping the table in the front hall.
Gan Yingzi also saw her. Remembering how she had stolen her fish before, she felt guilty and her hands and feet became a little awkward.
Gan Tian acted as if she hadn't seen her, and went straight to the backyard, where she found Gan Li.
When Gan Li saw her daughter return, her expression wasn't very cheerful. Thinking of Gan Yingzi wiping the table in front, she assumed that Gan Tian was still upset about what had happened before.
She had a bit of a headache; why was it all about comforting people today?
Although she had a headache, she couldn't just throw the person back now that she had brought them back. So she could only hold her daughter's hand and repeat the same principles she had taught her the night before.
It's nothing more than saying things like "it's better to resolve conflicts than to create them" and "forgive others when you can."
Unexpectedly, Gan Tian interrupted her with a puzzled look:
“Mother, what are you saying? Didn’t I already say yesterday that I no longer cared about her taking my fish? I have something else to discuss with you.”
Gan Li was taken aback, then didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
It turns out I've been worrying for nothing; this girl didn't care about Gan Yingzi's matter at all. She's been playing mediator too much today; she's become overly sensitive.
But what about other things?
Since her daughter started going to school, she spends most of her time there every day. So when her daughter said she had something to do, Ganli's first thought was of the school.
Seeing Gan Tian's worried expression, her heart sank, and she asked with concern, "Has something happened at the school?"
Sweetly nodded.
Upon hearing this, Gan Li recalled various incidents of school violence she had witnessed in her past life, and even imagined that Gan Tian had also experienced them, which immediately aroused her murderous intent!
"Is someone bullying you?"
Ganli gritted her teeth, rolled up her sleeves, and stood up:
"Let's go! I want to see who has the guts to bully my daughter!"
Gan Tian felt a warmth in her heart and thoroughly enjoyed the sight of someone standing up for her.
However, seeing her mother's gritted teeth, and fearing that if she didn't explain, her mother might even tear down the school, Gan Tian quickly explained:
"No one bullied me! Actually, it's...it's Yaozu who got into trouble. Yaozu...he was expelled from school!"
