Matchmaker Li was extremely anxious. She had brought this person herself, and if anything happened to him, the Wu family would not forgive her!
She grabbed the arm of the person next to her: "Didn't you say you would drug her? How come she's still alive and kicking! Tell her to stop right now, or we'll all be in deep trouble if she hurts Young Master Wu!"
Gan Tao Niang was also quite frightened. Hearing what the matchmaker Li said, she quickly shouted at her daughter, "Tao'er, you...you're crazy! Let go of Young Master Wu!"
"I'm not crazy," Gan Tao said, this was the first time she'd done something like this, but she was too afraid to be there anymore. Her eyes were filled with despair and madness as she fiercely accused him:
"You're the ones who're crazy! I'm your daughter! How could you treat me like this? Let me tell you, you won't let me have a good life, you all want to force me to my death, so let's all die together!"
Looking into her daughter's resolute eyes, Gan Tao Niang was terrified. She knew her daughter was serious this time.
"Tao'er, listen to your mother..."
"I don't want to hear it!" Gan Tao interrupted her sharply, "And don't you dare say you're my mother again! I don't have a mother like you!"
Gan Tao Niang was too frightened to speak, but Matchmaker Li was extremely anxious. She was worried that something might happen to Young Master Wu here!
Relying on her extensive experience in judging people, Matchmaker Li was certain that a young girl like Gan Tao would never dare to actually kill someone, so she instigated Gan Tao's mother:
"Don't be afraid, little sister! This girl is just trying to scare us. Let's all go together and take that thing from her hand, and everything will be fine!"
Gan Tao Niang had come to her senses by now, and after hearing what the matchmaker Li said, she also felt that it made sense. If Young Master Wu really died, then her one hundred taels of silver would be gone!
Thinking of this, Gan Tao Niang disregarded her fear and, together with Matchmaker Li, rushed towards Gan Tao.
Young Master Wu had a large wound on his neck, from which blood gushed out incessantly, causing him to grimace in pain. He dared not move his hand, but cursed under his breath:
"You filthy bitch, you dare stab me? I'll kill you! When I recover, I'll sell you to a brothel and make you work your way to death!"
These foul and offensive words became the last straw that broke Gan Tao's back.
She looked at her mother and matchmaker rushing over, her eyes filled with despair and madness. Without thinking, she fiercely stabbed the dagger in her hand towards Young Master Wu!
Blood gushed out, splattering all three men's faces. Young Master Wu let out a scream, and then fell silent.
Gan Tao Niang and Matchmaker Li were so frightened that they collapsed to the ground like two puddles of mud.
Just then, when Ganli led a group of people and broke down the door, what she saw was this shocking scene.
Everyone was stunned. The room was deathly silent; you could hear a pin drop.
Gan Tao stood blankly by the bed, still clutching the blood-stained iron ring in her hand. Blood dripped from her fingertips onto the floor, a shocking sight.
Gan Li was the first to react, shouting, "Quickly, save them! Pull them apart!"
As soon as she finished speaking, the crowd seemed to come alive and rushed forward in a swarm.
Although Gan Quan didn't know what had happened, seeing Gan Tao's desperate and broken expression, and the man who had inexplicably appeared in Gan Tao's room, a nameless anger suddenly surged up.
He rushed forward, yanked Young Master Wu off the bed, and threw him violently to the ground. Gan Li then grabbed Gan Tao and held her protectively in her arms.
When the matchmaker Li came to her senses, she screamed at the top of her lungs, "Murder! Someone's dead! Someone's going to die!"
Gan Tao Niang collapsed to the ground, her eyes lifeless, as if she had lost her soul.
The village chief was also quite frightened by the scene before him, but as the village chief, he quickly calmed down.
Heeding Gan Li's advice, he brought several strong young men with him, which came in handy now.
The matchmaker's cries were so loud that the village chief waved his hand impatiently. Two young men immediately stepped forward, one on each side, covered the matchmaker's mouth, and dragged her out like a dead dog.
The others hurriedly lifted the still convulsing young master Wu from the ground and went to find a doctor.
After everyone left, the house finally quieted down. The village chief then asked in a deep voice, "What exactly happened?"
Gan Tao Niang seemed to be terrified, trembling and unable to utter a single word.
Gan Tao slowly came to her senses. Her eyes were vacant, her face was pale, and her voice trembled as she said:
“My mother…my mother accepted fifty taels of silver from the Wu family…and she’s going to sell me to the young master of the Wu family…”
She couldn't continue speaking and burst into tears.
Upon hearing this, everyone glared angrily at Gan Tao Niang.
Gan Li quickly hugged Gan Tao and gently comforted her, "It's alright, Tao'er, don't worry, it's all over now..."
Gan Tao's mother, however, seemed to suddenly come to life, abruptly scrambling to her feet and pointing at Gan Tao's nose, cursing:
"You're lying! I didn't! You unfilial daughter! Just because I wouldn't let you be with Gan Quan, and I wouldn't let you go to the capital, you're slandering me! Do you have any conscience at all!"
The village chief frowned and asked, "Then, what about that man?"
Gan Tao Niang's eyes darted around, and she forced herself to remain calm as she said, "That's...that's...the person I hired to fix the roof..."
"This excuse is utterly absurd," Gan Li sneered, "and said:"
"How did the roof repairman end up in someone's house? It's not hard to find out what happened, village chief. Since she won't tell the truth, why don't you question Gan Tao's younger brothers?"
The village chief gave Gan Tao Niang a disgusted look, then turned and walked away.
Soon after, Gan Tao's younger brothers were brought over.
The children were trembling with fear, but they still managed to tell the truth, albeit haltingly:
"Matchmaker Li brought a lot of silver, and Mother agreed to marry my eldest sister to him. When my eldest sister found out, she refused, so Matchmaker Li gave Mother a suggestion: Mother should let Young Master Wu sleep with my eldest sister..."
When the truth came out, everyone was shocked and outraged! They all condemned Gan Tao's mother as being worse than a pig or a dog, for actually doing such a thing to her own daughter.
Gan Taoniang slumped to the ground, her face deathly pale, unable to refute a single word.
Gan Tao nestled in Gan Li's arms, unwilling to face all of this.
Gan Li hugged Gan Tao tenderly, then turned to look at the village chief with a determined look in her eyes:
"Village chief, everyone knows the whole story. Tao'er injured someone in self-defense. Young Master Wu deserves his fate!"
Upon hearing this, the village chief was about to nod.
Just then, a commotion arose outside: "Something terrible has happened! Young Master Wu... Young Master Wu is dead!"
