Chapter 35 The Fish Finally Took the Bait

Having made money, the whole family became even more energetic, and that very afternoon they prepared everything they would need for the next day's business.

Ganli thought that business was good on the first day of setting up her stall, and that more people would come to buy it when the news spread tomorrow, so she prepared more bean soup.

The next day, they arrived at the dock at roughly the same time as the day before. From afar, they saw a large group of people gathered under the big banyan tree in front of the dock, craning their necks like waiting-for-husband stones, looking in their direction.

"Hey, here it comes, the popsicles are here!" Someone with sharp eyes spotted the slowly moving oxcart at a glance and shouted at the top of their lungs.

The crowd immediately stirred, like ants in a pot that had been set ablaze, chattering amongst themselves.

"Finally here! The sun is blazing today, I feel like I'm being roasted alive! Don't anyone try to take it from me, I'm waiting for an ice pop to save my life!" A burly man said excitedly, wiping the sweat from his forehead.

"Go away, who isn't hot in the middle of summer? I've heard that popsicles are really good for cooling down. I didn't get to try one yesterday, but I definitely have to try it today!" A lean old man next to me retorted with a smile.

Ganli and her family were taken aback by their enthusiasm before they even got close.

She cheerfully told everyone not to rush, and directed them to start setting up their stall. Finally, she took out a new signboard that she had made overnight from the car. It was a neat wooden board with four large characters written in black charcoal on it: "Gan Ji Popsicles".

"Come on, come on, some icy-cold popsicles! We have mung bean, red bean, and sweet white sugar ones!"

Gan Tian started shouting at the top of her lungs. After yesterday, she was much more relaxed, and her clear voice echoed over the dock.

"Give me two red bean ones, one mung bean one, and one with white sugar, so the little guy at home can have a treat!"

"I want five mung beans. Oh? You don't sell five? I have a lot of family members! Don't worry, this diarrhea is my own fault, I definitely won't cause you any trouble!"

"Does it have to be such disgusting talk at this time? Besides, I'd like to buy a few more..."

As soon as the stall was set up, the crowd erupted in excitement. Everyone chatted excitedly, as if afraid of missing out if they were a step behind, and eagerly handed over the coins they had prepared.

While collecting money, Ganli deftly took out popsicles from the bamboo tube and handed them to customers, her face beaming with joy.

Today we prepared two more cans of bean soup than yesterday, and it sold out a little slower than yesterday. But it wasn't because no one was buying it. On the contrary, after the news that popsicles were being sold at the pier spread quickly over the past two days, the number of people buying popsicles was no less than the number of people buying them over the past two days.

However, it takes time for the popsicles to solidify, so the process slowed down. Although everyone was getting impatient while waiting, no one wanted to leave when they thought of the refreshing and sweet popsicles.

But it wasn't much slower than yesterday; in just over an hour, everything they brought was sold out.

Today, a total of twelve wooden basins of popsicles were sold, which is 1,200 in total, for a total of three taels and six mace of silver. As usual, I went to the money exchange and exchanged them for loose silver.

When she got home, she heard that she had earned an extra tael and two mace of silver that day compared to yesterday, and Old Lady Gan almost fainted from joy.

The Gan brothers were extremely excited. Gan Mingli slapped his thigh and exclaimed excitedly:

"Little sister, I think we should order more molds! Our five molds are really not enough. Many people are impatient and haven't bought any yet! If we had more molds, I think we could sell ten taels a day!"

Although earning three taels and six qian of silver a day is already a lot, who would complain about having too much silver?

Moreover, the weather is only hot for two or three months. Once summer is over, it gets cold and hard, and these things won't sell well. So, it's natural to take advantage of the time when you can make money to earn as much as possible.

Gan Mingli's words made everyone in the Gan family's eyes light up. Indeed, quite a few people hadn't bought popsicles today and were complaining, asking them to prepare more for tomorrow! If they could make more, wouldn't they be able to earn more?

The Gan family members seemed to already see piles of silver waving at them, and all looked at Gan Li with expectant faces.

Grandma Gan added, "Ah Li, what your older brother said makes sense. I think we should listen to him and make more popsicles to sell tomorrow!"

Old Man Gan nodded and said, "You don't need to worry about not having enough manpower. There are so many people in our family, and we don't have anything to do right now, so we can all come and help you."

Gan Li did not nod as everyone expected. Instead, she shook her head and said, "We already have five molds and can earn more than three taels of silver a day, which is quite a lot. Let's leave it at that for now and not add any more."

The Gan family members were stunned and looked at each other in bewilderment.

Gan Mingli got anxious and scratched his head, saying, "Little sister, how can we not add it? Listen to what those people are saying, they're all waiting for our popsicles to save their lives! If we earn more money now, we can pay off our debts sooner."

Old Gan also looked worried.

They still owed Baifulai's employer 250 taels of silver. Although Ganli had given them an extension, they still had to raise the 250 taels within a month.

So even though they now earn three taels of silver a day, which is a number they never dared to dream of before, it only amounts to one hundred taels of silver a month, far from enough to pay off their debts.

“Big brother! You don’t need to say anything more. We don’t need to increase the number of popsicles for now.” Gan Li interrupted Gan Mingli, paused, and then reassured him, “I know what you’re worried about. Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing.”
