Chapter 4 Success and Divorce

"I...I..."

Seeing her mother's gentle gaze fall on her, Chen Pan'er lowered her head awkwardly, her rough hands nervously twisting the hem of her clothes.

At home, she was either scolded or beaten, and had never been looked at seriously by her mother like this before. Suddenly receiving such 'attention' made her feel a little lost.

Ganli looked at the timid little girl in front of her, a pang of heartache flashing in her eyes, and she couldn't bear to urge her.

But Granny Lü didn't care about that. The chores in this house had always been either done by that wretched Gan Li or that little money-loser. If they both left, wouldn't all the chores fall on her shoulders?

Thinking of this, she immediately became unhappy, ignoring the pain in her legs, and called out to her granddaughter:

"Pan'er, don't listen to her. She's always treated you like that, and now she wants to take you away. She definitely has bad intentions! What if she sells you off later and you're left with no one to turn to for help? What will you do then!"

Upon hearing this, Chen Pan'er's face suddenly turned cold, reverting to her usual fiery demeanor, and she said sarcastically:

"Is Grandma worried about my future, or is she worried that if I leave, there will be no one to do the work for you?"

Granny Lü's scheme was exposed, and a hint of embarrassment flashed across her face. But what surprised her even more was that Chen Pan'er really intended to go with this slut.

This ungrateful wretch! She's clearly a member of the Chen family, yet she sides with this despicable outsider!

This realization enraged her, and her feigned kindness crumbled. She pointed at Chen Pan'er and berated her:

"You little slut, who cares about you! Do you really think you're some kind of rich young lady? When you're with your father, people still treat you with respect because you're the daughter of a scholar. But once you leave this house, who will recognize you, you wretched girl?"

"I'm doing this for your own good, and you don't even appreciate it. Just wait, your bitch mother will sell you out sooner or later!"

"A scholar's daughter, so precious? Don't think I don't know, if I stay here, I'll be sold by you sooner or later anyway. I'd rather be sold by my mother!" Chen Pan'er retorted.

Upon hearing this, a hint of embarrassment flashed across Granny Lü's face—she really did have such a plan.

Chen Pan'er is already eleven years old this year. In another two or three years, she will be ready to be betrothed. As a daughter of a scholar, she is naturally more expensive than that of an ordinary family. She can fetch a dowry of at least ten or twenty taels of silver.

If I go with Ganli now, wouldn't that be letting that bitch get away with it?

Her carefully laid plans were ruthlessly exposed, which angered her so much that she pointed at Chen Pan'er and cursed her incessantly.

"Fine, you're so high and mighty. Go with her, and she'll sell you into a brothel, where you'll be ridden by a thousand men and climbed on by ten thousand—ah!"

Before Granny Lü could finish her rant, she saw a stool flying towards her. If she were hit, she would either die or be seriously injured. She was so frightened that her face turned pale.

Fortunately, Chen Danian was nearby and couldn't bear to see her being crushed to death, so he went over and blocked it with his hand, writhing in pain on the ground.

While Granny Lü breathed a sigh of relief, she was heartbroken to see her son in distress. Chen Yaozu also rushed forward to help his father, and the scene was chaotic!

Gan Li watched the farce unfold before her with cold eyes and warned, "Watch your mouth! If you keep spouting nonsense, I'll sell you, you old hag, to a brothel!"

When Granny Lü saw her cursing her like that, she felt a lump in her throat, but looking at Gan Li's cold eyes and remembering what had just happened, she dared not utter another word.

Seeing that she had shut up, Gan Li turned to Chen Pan'er and asked gently, "Would you like to come with me?"

Chen Pan'er made up her mind and nodded firmly: "I'll go with Mother!"

Gan Li smiled, revealing the first genuine smile she had shown since arriving here.

Since they had agreed to divorce, Gan Li didn't want to delay. Chen Danian saw that Gan Li was like a jinx after she woke up, and he couldn't wait to get rid of her. Despite the injury on his hand, he took the initiative to ask the village head for help.

Gan Li was naturally happy to oblige. As soon as Chen Danian left, she called to Chen Pan'er, and they went back to their rooms to pack their luggage.

The original owner didn't have many clothes, so she packed them up in no time. She originally wanted to help Chen Pan'er, but she found that Chen Pan'er was already waiting at her door with her bundle on her back.

Gan Li looked at the trouser leg that had fallen out from the seam of the bundle and stammered, "There's no need to be in such a hurry..."

Chen Pan'er's eyes flashed—she was afraid that if she was too slow, her mother would get impatient and stop taking her with her.

She didn't reply, but reached out to take the bundle from Ganli's body: "The bundle is heavy, let me carry it for Mother."

Ganli, upon hearing this and looking at her small frame, repeatedly refused.

However, Chen Pan'er insisted, and she felt somewhat helpless, but also afraid of delaying important matters, so she could only let her go.

Chen Pan'er carried two bundles on her back and followed behind her mother, but there was a hint of joy in her eyes—her mother's bundles were on her, so she couldn't leave her behind and run away quietly!

When they arrived at the front, Chen Danian had already invited the village headman and prepared the documents.

In addition to the divorce agreement, there are two other severance agreements, one between Chen Pan'er and Chen Danian, and the other between Gan Li and Chen Yaozu.

Ganli checked and found no problems, so she decisively pressed her fingerprints on the divorce agreement and the severance of ties agreement.

Seeing her swift movements, Chen Yaozu's face stiffened. He stepped forward defiantly and pressed his handprint on it as well, then gave Gan Li a provocative look.

But the latter didn't even look at him, which made him sulk in anger!

Chen Pan'er followed suit and pressed her fingerprint on the letter severing ties with her husband.

Seeing the decisive manner of the mother and daughter, Chen Danian felt somewhat annoyed and resentful, and pressed his fingerprints on the two letters.
