Although the Gan family was not wealthy, they were a reasonable family, especially Old Man Gan, who rarely interfered in his daughter-in-law's affairs and had very clear boundaries.
For example, right now, someone hit his hand with chopsticks in front of everyone, wasting a good piece of meat. But when he saw that the person was his daughter-in-law, Sun, no matter how angry he was, he couldn't directly yell at or hit her.
Fortunately, Old Mrs. Gan always knew her husband's temperament, and upon seeing this, she immediately started scolding him:
"Second daughter-in-law, are you trying to get yourself killed?! Hitting your father-in-law's hand at the dinner table! I'll have to ask your mother another day, is this how you raise your children?"
Upon hearing this, Madam Sun waved her hands frantically and explained, "I didn't want to hit Father, I wanted to hit his chopsticks!"
"Is it enough to just use chopsticks?" Old Mrs. Gan stared wide-eyed, utterly baffled by her daughter-in-law's idiot brain.
Gan Mingyi also felt ashamed: "You silly woman, why can't you stop making a scene when we're just having a meal? If you don't want to eat, then take your son and get out of here, don't embarrass yourself!"
"I was only doing it for your own good!"
Feeling wronged, Mrs. Sun simply shouted:
"This meat is poisoned! I saw it with my own eyes. Just now in the kitchen, when everyone was out, Gan Li closed the door and put a lot of medicine into the stew pot! What kind of good person would put medicine in the stew?"
I knew it! With her personality, she wouldn't be satisfied until she'd emptied our pockets. Why was she being so kind today? Turns out she wanted to take this opportunity to poison us!
Everyone was taken aback upon hearing this. Zhao quickly put the meat she had just secretly picked up back down with her chopsticks and told her children, "Don't eat it!"
Seeing this, Gan Mingli frowned and said unhappily, "You believe everything she says? How could my little sister possibly harm us?"
Gan Mingyi also raised his fist and cursed at Sun: "What the hell are you talking about? I'll beat you to death!"
Gan Lin was still harboring resentment towards Gan Li, and seeing his mother making a scene over such a serious matter, he was secretly pleased. He immediately rushed over, hugged his father's waist, and shouted loudly:
"What's the rush? Let my mother finish speaking first!"
"What are you talking about? If it were true, why didn't she say so earlier? I think she just couldn't stand to see us happy and was deliberately causing trouble!" Gan Mingyi said angrily.
Sun, however, stubbornly shouted:
“Your family has always been biased! The evidence is right in front of you, but you don’t believe it, let alone when there was no evidence! But what I’m saying is true, even if you beat me to death today, I will still say the same thing!”
And that little vixen Gan Tian, do you really think she's on our side just because she changed her surname? Let me tell you, she was watching when Gan Li drugged her! Don't believe me? Ask her!"
When Gan Tian heard her second aunt shout that the meat had been poisoned, she was a little stunned. Now, seeing everyone looking at her, she remembered what her mother had said and obediently nodded:
"There was indeed medicine in this meat, but..."
"See? See? Even this little hussy has admitted it!"
Before Gan Tian could finish speaking, Sun interrupted her. Hearing Gan Tian admit that Gan Li had indeed poisoned the meat, Sun was overjoyed and eagerly told her husband:
"Now you believe me, right?"
"I..." Gan Mingyi was speechless for a moment.
He naturally didn't believe his younger sister would drug him, but why was even his niece saying that?
Gan Mingyi didn't know what to do and looked to his father for help.
Seeing that things had escalated to this point, Old Man Gan had no choice but to step in. He turned to Gan Li and asked, "Li, what exactly happened?"
When Gan Li saw that although Old Man Gan had come to ask her questions, his tone was gentle and there was no suspicion in his eyes, she immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
Then he spoke, but not to Old Man Gan. Instead, he turned to look at Madam Sun and asked in a strange tone, "You're saying I put medicine in this meat?"
Sun said smugly, "Your daughter has already admitted it, how else do you want to deny it?"
Unexpectedly, Gan Li said, "I won't deny it, I did put medicine in the meat."
These words caused an uproar, and Madam Sun became even more smug:
"You see? She can't deny it anymore, so she just admits it! I told you she was a really vicious person, and you all said she had changed for the better, but look what happened, she was actually plotting to poison us!"
Gan Mingli couldn't believe his sister was that kind of person, and anxiously asked her, "Little sister, what exactly happened?"
Ganli didn't say anything. In front of everyone, she picked up her chopsticks, took a piece of meat, and put it in her mouth.
Grandma Gan was startled and tried to stop her, but Gan Li was prepared and quickly stuffed the meat into her mouth, chewed it vigorously, and swallowed it.
This terrified everyone in the room. Gan Li then admitted that she had put medicine in the meat and that she had eaten a piece herself. Now everything was over.
Grandma Gan was both angry and distressed. She patted Gan Li's back, urging her to vomit. The two Gan brothers were also frantic. Even Sun Shi, who had been so smug just moments before, was terrified and kept saying:
"This has nothing to do with me! She poisoned herself and ate the meat herself! If she dies from poisoning, it has nothing to do with me!"
Old Man Gan glared at her and said to his two sons, "What are you two standing there for? Hurry up and go to the outhouse to scoop up some excrement to make your sister vomit!"
The Gan brothers finally found their leader, quickly agreed, and picked up their tools to go out.
Ganli, realizing she was about to be fed excrement if she didn't speak up, grabbed the two of them and shouted:
"Don't go, don't go! I'm perfectly fine, I'm not poisoned at all!"
As she spoke, as if afraid her family wouldn't believe her, she even stood up and jumped around a bit to convince everyone that she was indeed alright!
Looking at their lively daughter/younger sister, who certainly didn't seem to be in any danger, the Gan family members were all puzzled.
Old Gan asked, "The medicine in the meat..."
Under the threat of the excrement, Gan Li dared not keep them in suspense any longer and quickly explained to the Gan family what she had said to Gan Tian earlier, adding:
"So I did put medicine in the meat, but it was to remove the odor and enhance the flavor. You can smell this meat; doesn't it not have a bad smell, and it even has a fragrance that we don't usually have? That's all thanks to those 'medicines'! Isn't it sweet?"
When Gan Tian heard her mother calling her, she nodded hurriedly: "I was just about to tell you, after adding those medicines, the meat is so fragrant. I...I already tasted it when it came out of the pot..."
She said it with some embarrassment.
Upon hearing this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Sun Shi, who had tried to argue, was rendered helpless. After all, Gan Tian had said she had tasted the meat when it was cooked; if there were truly a problem with the meat, she wouldn't be standing here now.
Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, everyone sat back down on the benches. Sun wanted to sit down as well, but Gan Mingyi stopped her.
"You silly old woman, you don't know anything and you're still talking nonsense! Didn't you say that I put medicine in this meat? Then why are you still eating it? Get out of here or you'll be poisoned!"
As he spoke, seeing that Sun was still arguing back and didn't seem to think she had done anything wrong, he got angry and simply got up and dragged her out.
