Chapter 124 Repeated Scenes (Comic Plot + ...)
[Lin Cai's condition is a bit strange. What kind of painting style is this, old thief?]
[Two scenes connected by a single frame, with filters applied—a display of impressive drawing skills.]
[It's not a filter; it's that they drew Lin Cai examining the sign on the door twice, and then gave a close-up of Lin Cai's eyes the second time. The old thief isn't one to draw ineffective scenes; this is clearly superfluous.]
Lin Cai gently pushed the door open a little more.
The lights in the reading room were different from those in the corridor; brighter light leaked out through the cracks in the door.
Lin Cai stood in the shadows behind the door, peeking through the crack.
The comic book then shifted her perspective.
A colored slit appears in the center of the completely black screen.
[A classic return, as expected of Lin Cai! Our protagonist with an extremely strong sense of stealth in the prison setting]
[Are you kidding me?]
The gap moved, from one side of the reading room to the center.
In the center was a large floor-to-ceiling window, and sitting in front of it was a familiar girl. She had black hair and pink eyes, wore Zhanzhou's school uniform, and her hair was casually tied up with a hair tie.
It was Chu Mengfu.
The other person's body was mostly hidden by the bookshelf, and because he was leaning against the bookshelf, his face was indistinct and he could not be seen clearly. Only his black work pants and leather boots could be seen.
Lin Cai's gaze shifted to the shoelaces tied around the top of her leather boots; the way they were tied looked familiar. Startled, she loosened her grip on her student ID card, which fell onto the carpet.
'It's Lanlan.'
Lin Cai's sentiment was absolutely certain.
[Wait a minute, so the two people in the reading room right now, the one who's impulsive is Senior Chu, and the one who's composed is Yanlan?]
"If you're weak, you'll get beaten; that's common sense." What kind of awful common sense is this? Waaaaah, what has my wife been through?
[Yanlan's personality doesn't seem like that of a life mentor. So, the fact that she was calmly chatting with the student who had attacked her that afternoon in the reading room...it felt like a complete subversion of my previous impression of her.]
[It's a case of sympathy for one's own kind. When Lanlan was abandoned by her mother and ended up in the underworld as an unregistered resident, she must have swallowed a lot of grievances. In countless painful nights, she must have been wondering, why? Fortunately, Lanlan overcame it and became incredibly strong.]
So fate taught Lanlan that 'there is no road ahead that is more difficult.'
[My wife, waaaaaaah! Although everything in the past shaped Lanlan into who she is today, my heart still aches for her. It's like my wife is in a two-dimensional world, and I can't express my feelings... I really want to bring little Lanlan home, kiss her, hug her, lift her up high, and tell her, "Baby, you are the best baby in the world!!"]
The conversation in the reading room continued.
Lin Cai bent over, maintaining a position where her fingertips barely touched the student card that had fallen to the ground.
Her orange hair fell down, obscuring her face. The poses and composition of Lin Cai in this scene are strikingly similar to those of the loser she faced in the previous arena match.
The overhead light blurred their faces.
'...This is what the other world is like.'
Sigh... Lanlan...
"My wife has been through a lot, which is why she's so disappointed with the other world. Chu Mengfu really has no right to question her like that."
Compared to everything Lanlan has gone through, Zhanzhou's battle for the top spot is nothing.
Lanlan is actually a very gentle person. It's just that she always hides her gentleness and presents a sharp edge to the outside world.
[Yanlan and Yanju, they're twins after all, essentially the same; their gentleness breaks my heart.]
Lin Cai slowly tightened her grip on the student card.
Suddenly, a loud thud of books and shelves came from inside, followed by the faint, rapid sound of shoes scraping against the carpet.
Lin Cai stood up and closed the door again. Chu Mengfu rushed out of the reading room.
Lin Cai remained silent, merely coldly scrutinizing Chu Mengfu.
After rushing out, Chu Mengfu took a deep breath and was about to turn back to close the door when he noticed a figure behind the door. He asked in a stiff tone, "Who is it?"
Lin Cai pulled at the corners of her mouth forcefully, then stepped out of the shadows. "Senior Sister Chu," she called out, her fingertips digging deeply into her palm before she grinned widely. "What a coincidence."
Chu Mengfu had already composed himself. "Lin Cai? What are you doing here so late?"
They chatted as they walked toward the elevator.
Lin Cai also has a challenge match tonight, which is also the competition for this year's top freshman.
Chu Mengfu was visibly shocked upon learning Lin Cai's results: "So, tonight's first-year finals are between you and Young Master Lorenz?!"
[Senior Chu, do you even know what a protagonist in a shonen manga is?!]
[It's quite ironic. Just a few minutes ago, Chu Mengfu was complaining to Yan Lan in the reading room that students from the outside world couldn't win the arena matches. The next moment, Lin Cai appeared.]
Lin Cai can't exactly be considered purely from the surface world, can she? Isn't her mother, Su Jiefan, a major villain who creates explosive art at the boundary gate?
But Lin Cai grew up purely in the outer world, so there's no difference between her and someone from the outer world.
I really admire Lin Cai's mentality; she's never stage-frightened in any competition.
Chu Mengfu accompanied Lin Cai as they stepped onto the arena for tonight's match.
It was the final, so the two arenas in the arena were combined into one large arena, brightly lit and bustling with noise.
Adelaide stayed by Libertas's side.
Bai Du arrived at the scene early and, seeing that Lin Cai had finally arrived, quickly jumped onto the edge of the ring.
"Lin Cai, if you don't come soon, I'm going to come looking for you," Bai Du complained.
Lin Cai: "I was browsing the reading room in the library just now and didn't notice the time."
Bai Du: "I'm so nervous."
Lin Cai chuckled, "Why are you so nervous about me getting into a fight?"
"I was afraid you'd get beaten up," Bai Du said casually, then began to complain, "Lin Cai, you left early this afternoon, so you don't know, but I got beaten up terribly afterwards. The other side was really ruthless."
Chu Mengfu didn't speak, but first observed the arena before saying, "This arena is bigger than the ones you fought in before, and it consumes more spirit energy. Libertas is a knight, and her moves are wide and powerful. Don't use your big moves at the beginning, just stall her for a while."
Lin Cai nodded: "Okay."
Everything was ready, and it was almost time. Lin Cai and Libertas walked to the center of the ring. Bai Du, Chu Mengfu, and Adelaide retreated to the edge of the ring to watch.
The two assumed their fighting stances.
Time is up.
There was no referee.
Lin Cai turned her head and looked around, but suddenly saw Yan Lan jump down from the second-floor teachers' viewing platform in the distance and land on the ring.
"I'll be the referee."
The chatter around the arena stopped instantly.
Yanlan: "I just made a bet with Shuyou, betting on who will win."
She raised an eyebrow and chuckled, "Let's see how it goes."
[It's here! The must-have bet in shonen manga!]
[The bet may be late, but it's finally here. I'll bet five cents on Lin Cai, Lanlan.]
[Lanlan is even personally acting as the referee for this final match, how can Lin Cai not win? Go Lin Cai!!]
[If Lin Cai were to get brutally beaten up by Libertas in front of Yan Lan, that would be a masterpiece.]
Upon seeing Yanlan, Lin Cai's smile became even more genuine: "I will try my best!"
Libertas wasn't surprised to see Yanlan, and said in a calm voice, "I will also do my best."
Yan Shi and Shu You stepped back and lightly clapped their hands twice: "Both sides prepare, the match begins."
The scene shifts, and Lin Cai's expression turns cold the moment Yan Lan announces the start of the match.
She turned her head again to look at Yanlan by the edge of the ring.
The comic gives Yanlan a second close-up of this plot point.
[An extra scene appeared! And then the filter was switched again!]
[How can close-ups of my wife be considered superfluous! Lanlan's movements are clearly different in the two scenes. So many beautiful pictures of Lanlan!]
The composition is the same, with the focus always on Yan Lan. From the perspective of the comic's plot structure, it's somewhat redundant, but the author has always shown a strong preference for Yan Lan.
[Why don't you give Lanlan a beautiful past? (gritting her teeth)]
After staring at Yan Lan for a long time, Lin Cai smoothly dodged Libertas's attack without turning her head, reluctantly withdrawing her gaze from Yan Lan and returning her attention to the arena.
She nimbly dodged all the critical hits from Libertas, then gathered spirit energy at her fingertips and pursed her lips.
'I will win'
This concludes the update.
Turning the page further, you'll see a new Q-version of Lin Cai standing on the words "To be continued."
The drawing is so cute!
Yan Shi flipped back to the page where Lin Cai had announced the start of the competition.
Lin Cai's words were indeed somewhat strange.
As one comment said, Lin Cai interned at the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs for a month, and Yu Junxun gave her special training so that she could defeat all her peers. Is this special training or an elixir of immortality?
Not to mention that Yu Junxun himself is an ordinary person who cannot sense spirits, so his guidance to Lin Cai has limitations.
If Yu Junxun could truly improve Lin Cai's strength to this level in just one month by relying on the family classics he had learned from his surroundings, then putting aside everything else, wouldn't the elites of the inner world who truly received a complete family education be even stronger? How could Lin Cai so easily defeat all living beings?
After all, comic book readers might not understand and think it's just the author giving them a protagonist's halo. But Yan Shi clearly understands that this is her real life, and real people. Everything that seems unreasonable must have a reason.
There must be other things here that weren't drawn into the comic.
Yan Shi opened the comic forum thoughtfully, intending to first see what the comic readers who loved to imagine things thought.
Both of these new chapters feature Lin Cai, and the amount of analysis about Lin Cai on the forum homepage has noticeably increased.
[Lin Cai's inexplicable fighting power—just how many cheat codes did the old thief give Lin Cai?]

Okay, Yanlan's concentration is still a bit high.

1L Original Poster:
As the title suggests.
I initially thought Yanlan was just a character who was amusing himself in the gray area between good and evil (actually, Yanlan isn't particularly amusing), but after watching the new update, I decided to start a thread to set the record straight about Yanlan's character.
I'm building up my buffs in advance. I don't idolize any character in this manga, and I don't fall for any tragic or beautiful characters. A tragic past is a badge of honor for great strength.
The flaws in Yanlan's outward persona were discovered because of her attitude towards Chu Mengfu.
Author's note: I missed it! Oh well, I get a day off for perfect attendance every month, so I'll start updating daily from today!
