Chapter 196 (Physical Education Class)
Yan Shi had not seen Lin Zizui for a long time.
Because Lin Zizui is always very busy.
In Yan Shi’s memory, from the time she started living and going to school with her mother, Lin Zizui rarely went home because she always had endless work to do.
Just like before Yan Shi could take care of herself completely independently, the "mom's friends" who came to take care of her were always different each time.
Coincidentally, the place where Lin Zizui met Yan was the same teahouse that Sheng Chunqiu had booked for her one noon earlier.
Even the seats were by the window.
At six o'clock in the evening, the Summer Palace was bathed in the golden light of sunset. The corner towers were about to be swallowed by darkness. In the distance, the streetlights twinkled, and the capital city began to fall into night.
Yan Shi glanced down at the time again.
6:05.
Just as she was beginning to ponder whether to order food and watch some anime first, or browse comic forums and wait until Lin Zizui arrived before ordering, she finally heard the sound of heels clicking on the wooden floor not far away.
Yan Shi turned around and looked at her: "Ms. Lin."
Although she could say it out loud over the phone, every time they actually met face-to-face, she and Lin Zizui always felt like two strangers.
We're really not familiar with each other.
Lin Zizui sat down opposite Yan Shi: "Lanlan." She seemed to have just finished get off work and had come in a hurry; one button on her shirt collar was hastily undone, and her breathing was slightly uneven.
After sitting down, Lin Zizui tore off his tie and stuffed it into his bag: "How's your job search going after graduation?"
Yan Shi: "Found it." She paused, "Now it's, um, teaching at a school."
"Pretty good." Lin Zizui's voice was steady, with her usual flat tone.
Then, a silence fell between the two.
"What do you teach at the school?" Lin Zizui followed Yan Shi's gaze, and the two admired the sunset over the capital for a while before speaking again.
Good question.
Yan Shi remained silent for a moment.
She wasn't entirely sure if Lin Zizui knew anything about the inner world. After all, Lin Zizui had never mentioned the inner world to her before, nor had he demonstrated any abilities or spiritual power.
After lowering her eyes and thinking for a moment, she came up with a perfect description.
Yan Shi sincerely said, "Physical Education Class."
Lin Zizui: ?
She paused for a moment, then looked at Yan Shi with some confusion: "What class?"
Yan Shi: "Physical Education Class."
Lin Zizui: "...It's pretty good." She commented dryly.
The second floor became quiet again.
It was at this moment that Yan Shi realized that this teahouse, which was located right next to the corner tower of the Summer Palace and had a superb location with decent food, was completely deserted on the second floor today, except for them.
The seats were all empty.
Yan Shi glanced around and noticed that the waiters had all retreated to the dimly lit area at the stairwell, leaving only her and Lin Zizui on the second floor.
Yan Shi withdrew her gaze and looked at Lin Zizui's eyes, which were staring blankly at her face: "Ms. Lin, is there something you need from me?" she asked proactively.
"Oh, right." Lin Zizui snapped out of her reverie, shifting her gaze from Yan Shi's face. She turned and pulled a folded envelope from her bag. "Shan Fengyang's friend owns a small tourist island. It's currently peak tourist season, and it's very beautiful. He asked me to bring you this letter, wondering if you'd like to come?"
Yan Shi took the envelope and raised an eyebrow: "A tourist island?"
The envelope was made of the kind of tan oiled paper you could easily buy at any post office in the world. She casually unfolded the envelope and pulled out an invitation.
The invitation was completely different from the ordinary envelope it came in; it was made of thick paper with subtle gold patterns along the edges, elegant lettering, and deep blue ink. The content, however, was very simple.
Lanlan:
Welcome to visit!
This letter grants passage throughout the territory.
Floating City - Capital Lord's Mansion Meng
Yan Shi: ...?
Yan Shi: !
“A floating city,” she murmured slowly, “a tourist island?”
Lin Zizui: "Yes. A tourist island should always have a more sophisticated name."
Yan Shi: "Okay, I..." Before she could finish her sentence, a familiar voice came from the window: "Yan Lan, and... Lin Zizui?"
Yan Shi looked in the direction of the sound.
Principal Christie of Zhanzhou was sitting sideways on the windowsill not far from them, her long, golden curly hair tied up high and falling over her shoulders.
She blinked, her gaze slowly sweeping over Yan Shi and Lin Zizui, then a smile played on her lips as she asked in a relaxed tone, "May I join your dinner?"
As she spoke, she leaped from the windowsill and walked to Yan Shi's desk.
Yan Shi: "Ms. Lin, you know the principal too?"
“Principal?” Lin Zizui paused, glanced at Christie, and said calmly, “This is my client. I just didn’t expect that she would be the principal of the school you work for.”
To be honest, Yan Shi had never had such an experience during his student days.
She and Lin Zizui sat at one side of the table, opposite Christie.
I don't know why, but it looks a lot like they're looking for the parents.
Yan Shi was lost in thought.
She had already put away the invitation to the Floating City.
Christie leaned back in her chair, looked out the window, and said softly, "The Summer Palace is truly special when viewed at night."
