Chapter 41 The Elf Priest
The interior of the Elf Temple is very spacious, and the walls are inlaid with stained glass windows, making it a typical Western church building.
The high priest sat on his throne on the high platform at the far end of the hall, deep in thought.
With silver hair and green eyes, the High Priest's eyes, though both green and Wen Ying's, were quite different. Wen Ying's eyes were a deep emerald green, like a lake or a gemstone. The High Priest's, however, were the green of branches, like a vibrant forest.
When Wen Ying led Yan Shi and the others into the main hall, she did not knock beforehand and just walked in, which seemed to disturb the peace of the gods.
The elves around them were all kneeling on the ground.
The members of the execution team from the Bureau of Heterogeneous Affairs behind him, except for a few cultivators or summoners with firm anchor points, all lowered their heads to avoid eye contact with the High Priest.
Wen Ying: "The High Priest and the Director of the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs have personally arrived."
"Oh?" The high priest on the throne seemed to awaken, his voice melodious, "Director of the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs."
His gaze swept downwards, then met Yan Shi's eyes.
The high priest, seemingly curious and serious, sat up from his reclining position and looked at Yan Shi, his gaze finally settling on the wooden hairpin tucked in her hair.
"Yan Shi." Wen Ying turned her head and called her softly, and unsurprisingly found that Yan Shi was clear-headed and had a cold expression.
"High Priest," Yan Shi said, "the Bureau of Extraterrestrial Affairs requests a re-examination of the authenticity of the recording stone."
The high priest had already descended from the platform. As he approached, Lin Cai felt a gentle yet irresistible pressure wash over her.
She couldn't help but take a few steps back and bend slightly, then secretly looked up. She discovered that, apart from Director Yan, everyone else, including Director Gui and Director Shu of their Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs, and Wen Ying, the human from the Elf Clan, had all been pushed back a few steps, just like her.
Only Yanju remained standing in place, looking indifferently at the High Priest.
The high priest scrutinized Yan Ju again, then suddenly reached out and pulled at the hairpin coiled in Yan Ju's hair.
Yan Ju seemed to have anticipated the High Priest's approach, turning his head away from him while simultaneously reaching out and grasping the air.
The temple, which had just been fresh and filled with the breath of life, suddenly became warm, and Lin Cai could feel the intense heat right next to her.
The intense heat was perfectly controlled. The core area, the area where the High Priest and Yan Ju were standing, had become so concentrated and compressed by the fire spirit that it was almost at the point of materializing.
Meanwhile, Lin Cai and the others nearby were left with only warmth.
The high priest suddenly took a half step back.
Even so, the ends of Yan Ju's hair that he touched were still half-burnt. The burn marks on his originally moon-like silver hair were particularly noticeable.
Although his expression didn't change, Lin Cai noticed that the High Priest's face had turned cold.
He looked down at his long hair, gently running his hand over the scorched ends. After confirming that it was indeed his long hair that had been burned, he slowly looked up, and the shadow of illusory elven wings appeared behind him.
Then, the equally intense and materialized light spirit, Asahiko, launched a counterattack.
"Yan, Shi." Here it comes again. The high priest should be enunciating each word carefully, but the words seem to carry coded messages or laws, slipping past Lin Cai's ears without leaving any trace.
This situation occurred three times: the first time Wen Ying spoke to Yan Ju, the time just now, and the time now the High Priest is speaking to Yan Ju.
Lin Caicai, this might be Yanju's name.
Yu Junxun and Lin Cai had previously mentioned that, according to inside information, Director Yan's name was Dao Zhou.
Regardless of why Wen Ying and the High Priest both knew Yan Ju's name, Lin Cai probably understood why Tiger Cub's curse wouldn't be passed on just from these few times.
She couldn't remember the name of the spell at all.
There are probably other triggering conditions.
As the two immense forces clashed head-on in a powerful and oppressive manner, Lin Cai was surprised to discover that Yan Ju also seemed to be wearing a crown made entirely of flames.
Flaming black hair, coupled with the chilling aura emanating from Director Yan's brows. For the first time, Lin Cai directly experienced just how unfathomable Director Yan's strength truly was, as the head of the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs.
The two spirits, both of the light element, clashed, and the resulting energy waves, powerful enough to melt everything, scattered outwards. The beautiful stained-glass windows on the temple roof could not withstand the overflowing energy and detached from the frames, falling to the ground.
Lin Cai had lost all interest in the standoff between Yan Ju and the High Priest. She began to frantically dodge the rain of glass falling from the sky.
It seemed, as if, faced with the same scene, only her voice echoed in the empty temple.
Lin Cai: She was about to die on the spot.
No, nobody's scared?!
And why is this elven temple so fragile? What happened to the supposed relic of the elven mother goddess? Just one fight and the stained glass windows are already falling apart!
Lin Cai publicly condemned the shoddy construction project.
Hearing Lin Cai's call, Director Yan turned his head to look at the people from the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs.
She frowned slightly and made a gesture of retracting.
The massive fire spirit was instantly subdued, shifting from an offensive to a defensive stance, blocking the light spirits on the surface. At the same time, a portion of it split off to block the creatures inside the hall, stopping the continuously falling glass.
The light spirit was blocked and dissolved by the fire spirit, but a portion of it was still swallowed by Chao Yanju.
Yan Ju's fingertip seemed to briefly jump across the blue dot, but when Lin Cai looked again, it had already disappeared.
The hall was filled with such intense light and fire that it was almost tangible, that Lin Cai felt Yan Ju wipe a trace of blood from the corner of his mouth.
She blinked uncomfortably, then opened her eyes again to see only Yanju and the High Priest standing in the center.
Yan Ju's hair was perfectly intact, while the High Priest looked rather disheveled. Besides his hair being singed earlier, the hem of his robe also bore the marks of flames.
Director Yan's expression remained extremely cold. "Can the Bureau of Extraterritorial Management verify the authenticity of the recording stone now?"
“Or,” Yanju’s gaze swept from the high priest’s charred hair to the flame-stained hem of his robe, “would you rather take it yourself?”
Yan Shi was weeping inwardly at this moment.
She had always thought that working overtime was never a good thing, but she never expected it to be this bad.
First, she reunited with a friend she had broken off with in high school, feeling so awkward she wanted to dig her toes into the ground; then she encountered an elven high priest who seemed to want to take her things without saying a word.
What kind of strange creatures are these?
Then, for some reason, the blazing sun crown on her wrist, which had been pretending to be dead for so long, suddenly came alive just when the high priest was extremely close to her, and directly set the high priest's hair on fire.
And it was burnt.
It's burnt...
Yan Shi almost apologized on the spot.
What kind of rebellious daughter is this, blazing sun crown?!
She tried to stop the blazing sun crown from burning, but whether it misunderstood her or had something else on its mind today, the blazing sun crown started a fire.
Yan Shi: ...
She no longer dared to look at the high priest's expression.
Sure enough, what followed was the terrifyingly intense heat emanating from within the temple.
The light was too bright, so Yan Shi turned her body slightly, trying her best not to let her subordinates behind her see her eyes glistening with tears from the light.
As a result, halfway through the energy clash, glass began to fall from the top of the Elf Temple. The Crown of the Sun seemed to have finally realized the disaster it had caused and began to restrain its fire spirit.
Before Yan Shi could react, he instinctively summoned some water spirits to protect himself.
Because of the sudden contraction of the fire spirit, coupled with the uneven temperature caused by the water spirit's response from within her body, she coughed, coughing up some blood, which she quickly wiped away.
Nobody saw it, right...?
Yan Shi thought uncertainly.
Does anyone know how much this stained glass window in the Elf Temple costs?
Is this antique her personal fault? She wouldn't hand over the 840,000 yuan she just received before she even had a chance to enjoy it, or even incur a staggering debt, would she?
Yan Shi decided to strike first.
The high priest looked up at the dome of the elven temple; part of the stained glass window had fallen off, revealing the night behind it.
The stars twinkled.
The Elf Temple is indeed the remnant temple of the Elf Mother Goddess, and only the power of the gods can destroy it.
“Feng Yang must have left his entire estate to Lanlan,” the High Priest suddenly said. “What is your relationship to her?”
No, how come it seems to be Grandma's old friend again?
Yan Shi was suffocating.
How come she hadn't noticed before that her grandmother had so many old friends? She had already met two of them just by arriving near the Forest of Life.
She carefully considered her words, reluctant to admit that she had just given a severe beating to a creature that was theoretically her elder.
Lin Cai noticed that Yan Ju's expression became even colder after hearing the High Priest's question, and his fingertips involuntarily clenched into his palm.
Who is this Feng Yang, and why did he leave all his inheritance to Lanlan?
Yan Ju did not respond to the question, but spoke again, saying, "The image-recording stone."
The high priest stared at Yan Ju for a long time, then suddenly chuckled. "What kind of memory stone?" he said slowly. "There isn't one."
"Unless you tell me, what is your relationship with Lanlan?"
Lin Cai looked at Director Yan curiously from behind.
What kind of riddle is the High Priest and Yanju playing?
Lin Cai was not worried about whether Director Yan could handle the issue of the Wood Elves and the lost Scepter of Life.
After all, Yanju even defeated the high priest of the elves. If all else fails, he can defeat the entire elf race!
"Shan Fengyang is my grandmother." Director Yan suddenly spoke up, then lost his patience. "Don't test my limits."
The high priest leaned closer to examine Yanju more closely: "Is she your grandmother? You are Lanlan's older sister."
"I don't think I've heard of it much."
Yan Jue remained expressionless: "I don't care."
The high priest straightened up again and looked at the wood elves waiting behind him. "Let the people from the Bureau of Heretics leave."
The wood elf, who had been agitated in the forest, was now extremely docile: "Yes, High Priest."
Leona cautiously began, "High Priest, may I ask, what about our Scepter of Life...?"
High Priest: "This has nothing to do with the Elven Temple. According to the agreement between the Elven Temple and the Bureau of Heretics, your people will cooperate with the Bureau of Heretics to complete the supplementary registration of their household records later."
Yan Shi gripped the hem of his clothes tightly, trying his best to control the urge to grab the high priest's beautiful long hair.
No way, this high priest actually knows that the wood elves haven't registered their household records with the Bureau of Alien Affairs for over twenty years?!
Why did he only say it now?
Was it really not intentional?
Moreover, in the blink of an eye, the High Priestess revealed why she had rushed to the Forest of Life tonight to work overtime amidst her many misfortunes.
Just as she was about to leave the Elven Temple with a forced smile, ignoring all the messy elves, the High Priest suddenly looked at her again.
Then he took something out of the corner of his clothes and threw it at her.
Yan Shi caught it.
It's a photo-taking stone.
