Chapter 47 The Setting Sun

Chapter 47 The Setting Sun

Lin Xuya: "I think I saw little people... but I didn't eat any mushrooms..."

Wen Han, still dazed, said, "I saw it too..."

The two women stared at each other in disbelief, then quickly became excited, crowding around the little figure and chattering excitedly: "It looks like a real little figure! Can we touch it?"

"I wonder which artifact came to life. The texture on the skirt is so detailed, and it looks so familiar."

"Wait, did she just say something?"

"It seems so, nice to meet you?"

As she spoke, Lin Xuya turned to look at the woman sitting by the window who had been quietly watching them.

The woman seemed to be deep in thought, looking at the little figure on the table.

Lin Xuya: "You know this villain?"

Could this woman really be some kind of reclusive master?

"It's work-related, I suppose," the woman said.

The little figure on the table had stood up straight and untied a scroll from its waist. As the scroll was unrolled, the misty rain of Jiangnan poured down, forming a bridge entirely of rain and fog between Lin Xuya and the woman at the table.

"I am Qin Yu." The little man walked across the rain bridge, stood in front of Yan Shi, and smiled slightly. "I apologize for disturbing you."

She closed the scroll with her other hand, and the enchanting misty rain was all put away, rolled back to her waist.

The moment Yan Shi saw the little figure emerge from the paper bag, the blazing sun crown on his wrist felt slightly warm. He then proactively summoned the nearby fire spirits to briefly create a spiritual energy shield in the area to conceal the movements within.

Yan Shi slowly said, "You escaped from the Summer Palace?"

She recalled that after the leak of the spirit from the underworld, all artifacts related to spirits in the Summer Palace were strictly registered. During the daytime opening hours, they had to remain inside display cases; the Executive Office should now have a dedicated incident team following up on this matter.

How come another one has appeared, and it's even transformed?

From Qin Yu's appearance, it's impossible to tell what kind of artifact she is. However, judging from that scroll, Yan Shi guesses that Qin Yu is a painting spirit.

"I have important business to discuss with Director Yan," Qin Yu said.

"Wait, Director Yan?" Lin Xuya, who was listening in, caught the woman's address in Qin Yu's words and covered her mouth to prevent herself from screaming.

Yan Shi: "Yes, my surname happens to be Yan, and I work around here."

Lin Xuya pinched herself hard, feeling as if she were dreaming. The table was dry, the souvenir bag she had bought was lying on the table, and the little cultural relic figure was still standing in front of Yan Ju at the next table.

It's not a dream.

Qin Yu then turned to Lin Xuya and said, "Director Yan, this young lady is also part of the important matter I wanted to tell you."

Lin Xuya pointed to herself: "Huh? Me?"

“No matter how important it is,” Yan Shi said to Qin Yu, “you can tell the execution team’s incident group at night, instead of leaving the Summer Palace on your own in the afternoon.”

"What if it's about the world barrier?" Qin Yu suddenly asked.

Yan Shi: ...

She knew that anyone who approached her at work during lunchtime was bound to be up to no good.

Perhaps because her expression had become noticeably serious, Lin Xuya, who was standing next to her, became a little nervous and cautiously asked, "Excuse me, Director Yan and Qin Yu, what is the World Barrier?"

Yan Shi: "What does the world barrier have to do with these two little girls?"

Qin Yu waved to Lin Xuya, and Lin Xuya approached the table.

Qin Yu: "Give me your hand."

"My hands?" Lin Xuya asked, puzzled. She stretched out both hands, and Qin Yu pointed to the fingertips of Lin Xuya's right hand.

Yan Shi also looked over curiously. She could tell that Qin Yu was injecting spirit into Lin Xuya's fingertips.

As the spirit was infused, an irregular, semi-transparent, mirror-like fragment slowly emerged on the back of Lin Xuya's hand.

The fragments were firmly embedded in the back of Lin Xuya's hand, as if they were an integral part of her from birth.

Qin Yu: "This is a fragment of the world barrier."

Yan Shi: ...

Yan Shi: !

She looked Lin Xuya up and down carefully again. What was this? Had the fragment of the World Barrier come to life?

Is this reasonable?

Wen Han looked at her friend in shock: "We've been friends for so many years, and you're not going to tell me you're a shard of mirror that has come to life?"

Lin Xuya: "To be honest, I just found out that I'm a mirror shard spirit... Should I call my mom and ask?" She looked at Yan Shi for help.

Yan Shi: "Let's eat first. After that, you and I will go to the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs." As she spoke, she also looked at Wen Han, "Since it involves a confidentiality clause, you should come along too."

Lin Xuya and Wen Han were brought into the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs by Yan Shi in a daze, and Yan Shi led them directly to his office.

Qin Yu was still inside the creative product bag when she was brought in.

“So there really is a Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs in this world…” They sat down in the chairs in Yan Shi’s office.

Yan Shi looked at Qin Yu, who had climbed out of the paper bag and onto Lin Xuya's lap: "What's going on?"

She also pulled out a scrapped official document to make some notes on the back, and secretly turned on her phone to record the conversation under the table.

This is her usual procedure.

There was no other way; she couldn't understand much of the information in the other world. She recorded it, and afterwards, she would secretly check it out on the spiritual platform.

Qin Yu: "I was sleeping when the world barrier shattered that day. Lin Xuya was the restorer of the Ru kiln next door to me."

"I just realized why the pattern on your skirt looks familiar, Qin Yu!" Lin Xuya whispered. "It's like a rain scene from a painting of misty rain in Jiangnan!"

Qin Yu smiled slightly: "Yes, I am the spirit of the painting 'Jiangnan Misty Rain'."

"Get to the point." Yan Shi tapped the table lightly with the end of his pen.

Qin Yu: "After the world barrier shattered, the East Warm Pavilion where I was was the closest place to the hole. Just then, a piece of debris floated down from the skylight of the East Warm Pavilion and landed on the back of her hand."

"I don't quite understand what happened, but the fragments fused directly into the back of Lin Xuya's hand."

Yan Shi fell silent for a moment.

She didn't know what was going on either.

She silently sent a spiritual message to Lu Jian, the head of the information department: "Come to my office now."

“I understand,” Yan Shi said to Qin Yu, then looked at Lin Xuya: “Let’s go get a checkup first.”

Lu Jian arrived quickly: "Director Yan."

“A fragment of the World Barrier has fused into the back of her hand. Take her for a thorough examination and send me the report,” Yan Shi said simply.

Lu Jian looked at Lin Xuya in surprise: "A fragment of the world barrier? Okay, Director Yan."

After he took Qin Yu and Lin Xuya away, Yan Shi sat in his office for a few seconds in a daze.

He then collapsed onto the table.

"Why are there still fragments of the World Barrier? Isn't it supposed to break down so easily?"

"It broke for no reason at all. Why did it have to break while I was working? Waaaaaah!"

"A barrier made of who-knows-what, and it's even a puzzle piece. Kirina, you're really too unlucky! You didn't give us any warnings or preparations at all, huh?"

Her phone screen lit up; Master Meng had accepted her spiritual message.

[Yan: I am the director of the Bureau of Extraordinary Management.]

[Master Meng: ...]

[Meng Shi retracted a message.]

Yan Shi raised an eyebrow. To be honest, she wasn't in a good mood right now, having just glimpsed her bleak future of having to work overtime.

She directly dialed Master Meng's spiritual message.

The message waited a while before being reluctantly answered on the other end. After it connected, there was a silence that made people fall silent.

Yan Shi: "Are you interested in making a deal with the Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs?"

"What deal?" Meng Shi replied coldly, "Do you mean that after the Free Alliance helped the orphans of the Giant Jaw Plain out of kindness, the Bureau of Alien Management stopped giving us any special funding and coerced us into exchanging alchemical products for money to help them?"

"The General Administration has never shortchanged us with special funding in any year. Even the year we built the long-distance teleportation array," Yan Shi said.

Teacher Meng paused for a moment, then softened his tone slightly: "Where did the money go?"

“That’s a question for the branch office and the families involved.” Yan Shi tapped his fingertips on the table. “Therefore, I’ve decided that this year’s special allocation will be handled by the Freedom Alliance.”

"Acting under the Freedom Alliance?" Meng Shi sneered. "Director, according to you, the special appropriation funds have been missing for so many years. Why haven't we heard that the General Administration suddenly wants to get involved?"

"The Free Alliance has no interest in the intricacies between your large families. Admittedly, we don't want to abandon these orphans, but ultimately, the orphans on the Giant Jaw Plains have nothing to do with us. It is the Beastmen and your Bureau of Abnormal Affairs that should be in charge of them, not our Free Alliance."

Yan Shi: "Which families coerced you into exchanging alchemical products for money?"

She sent a notification while speaking.

Meng Shi: "What I said will only affect our future transactions. The Free Alliance will not sacrifice itself for these orphans."

“You go first,” Yan Shi said. “The General Administration didn’t care before, but now that I’m in charge, I will definitely clear this up.”

Yan Shi could hear slightly rapid breathing on the other end of the phone. After a while, Meng Shi said, "Lingkong City."

Yan Shi hung up the message and first looked at the clock on the wall.

3:58 PM.

Just right.

She stood up, slowly and deliberately put on her coat, walked to the office door, and turned off the lights.

Just as I was leaving, an elevator arrived at the top floor.

A team of executive members walked out.

Team A5.

It's rare in the General Administration to have an entire team from Zhanzhou, but none of the members come from aristocratic families.

"Director Yan." Gu Feng, the leader, bowed his head in greeting.

"Hmm." Yan Shi felt a strange, mild excitement. It was a feeling of being able to shift someone's mood, even though he himself wasn't very happy, because he was about to make others unhappy as well.

She murmured, "God said, go to Spirit City."

The world's barrier was thus breached.

Yan Shi stepped inside.

They directly tore open the world barrier! Gu Feng, ignoring his inner shock, calmly led Team A5 to follow.

The curse might be connected to Yan Shi's mind, knowing her intention to leave, because the other side of the world barrier opening is right at the entrance of the Lingkong City Bureau of Alien Affairs branch.

The Lingkong City Bureau of Evil Affairs branch is decorated in the classic ancient style of the Ling tribe. The building is tall and majestic, and the pillars at the entrance are carved with dragons about to take flight.

Yan Shi suddenly smiled in a way that was quite unlike a bureau chief. Just as she was about to cast a spell, the Crown of Blazing Sun suddenly heated up slightly, and to her slightly surprised gaze, it transformed into a warm flame that slid into her palm.

Following her heart's desire, she slowly reached out her hand, then turned her palm down and gently pressed it down.

The sky suddenly became so bright it was blinding.

Yan Shi looked up at the sky.

The blazing sun shone directly down on the Lingkong City Bureau of Eccentric Management.
