"I'm afraid so," Ye Xingchen said. "She's always been a pessimist, so there must be a reason why she's suddenly so happy."
"Perhaps she found out something, something that has been weighing on her mind for many years," Xia Jingyi said.
"The only thing that has weighed on her mind for so many years is my father." Ye Xingchen smiled. "How about I have someone investigate?"
"Alright, you said she's in danger of bloodshed?" Xia Jingyi asked doubtfully, "Does it mean an accident, or is someone trying to kill her?"
"Chen Zhengyi wants to kill her," Ye Xingchen said.
"Has he gone mad?" Xia Jingyi exclaimed in surprise.
“He’s a madman, a man with an extremely strong possessive streak, who has always regarded Bai Yingyun as his own possession,” Ye Xingchen said. “Now that he’s suddenly letting her go, don’t you think there’s something wrong with that?”
A thousand thoughts flashed through Xia Jingyi's mind: "Go save her, and while I'm at it... find out why she has changed so much?"
"I will." Ye Xingchen nodded slowly.
Bai Yingyun walked westward, and although she was happy to learn some secrets, she didn't know how to find the person she longed for.
For the past twenty years, she has lived in pain and depression, and has never had the chance to see this beautiful land.
Taking this opportunity, she searched for that person while also enjoying the scenery.
She spent most of her time hiking, taking buses when she got tired, heading west. Although she was very tired, she was very happy and felt that she had never felt so relaxed before.
As it was getting late, she saw on the map that there was a small town ahead, and there should be guesthouses in the town, but she still needed to walk more than ten kilometers.
The route is mostly mountain roads or narrow paths, and once night falls, it is so dark that you can't see your hand in front of your face.
Chen Jin sat in his car in a grove of trees by the roadside.
"Brother Chen, she's gone." A subordinate reported.
"Go ahead, try to make it look like an accident." Chen Jin waved his hand.
"Yes." The subordinate nodded and turned away.
As Bai Yingyun stumbled through the darkness, a chill ran down her spine, and a bad premonition washed over her.
Women have a strong sixth sense, especially when they encounter danger. She turned around suddenly and saw a horn blaring behind her, blinding lights flashing, and a truck speeding towards her.
Bai Yingyun stood there dumbfounded, watching the large truck roar towards her.
With a whoosh, the truck ran right over her, then sprinted dozens of meters before coming to a sudden stop.
Several people got off the truck and turned around to check the results.
There are no surveillance cameras on these mountain trails, and the roads are intricate and complex, so even if something does happen, it's basically impossible to find out.
However, when the people got off the bus, they did not see the dismembered limbs they had imagined. The area where the wheels had run over was blank, and Bai Yingyun had disappeared.
"What happened? Where did the person go?" the driver stammered.
He was certain that his car had indeed run over Bai Yingyun. A normal person would have been dead long ago, and the body wouldn't even be able to be pieced together.
However, there was nothing in front of him, which he found incredible.
From the darkness, a figure slowly emerged; it was Ye Xingchen.
"Is it fun to bump into people?" Ye Xingchen asked slowly.
Behind him, Bai Yingyun's face was deathly pale, ashen.
She had just narrowly escaped death. If Ye Xingchen hadn't appeared in time to pull her back, she would be dead by now.
"Who the hell are you?" The leader was taken aback at first, then pulled out his weapon and stared at Ye Xingchen menacingly.
They clearly sensed that Ye Xingchen's intentions were not good, and since they had already received the money for today's job, they couldn't let their target leave.
"Just a passerby." Ye Xingchen smiled slightly: "Don't waste time, let's all attack together."
"Kill them!" the lead driver roared, then grabbed his weapon and lunged at Ye Xingchen. The rest of the men also picked up their weapons and charged at Ye Xingchen.
A figure flashed, and a white mist condensed, rushing towards the group of desperate criminals with a whoosh. Accompanied by screams, the people fell to the ground one after another.
Bai Yingyun stared blankly at the scene before her, the scattered limbs and broken bodies making her feel extremely uncomfortable in her chest.
A faint smell of blood wafted through the air, and she suddenly realized what was happening. She ran to the side, leaned against a tree, and vomited.
The sight of blood was too much for her to bear; she vomited for most of the day until she had emptied her stomach completely.
"Are you feeling better?" Ye Xingchen walked up to her and handed her a bottle of water.
"Why is it you?" Bai Yingyun looked at Ye Xingchen, her expression puzzled and confused.
"I told you, you would suffer a bloody disaster, so my mother made me follow you and save you if necessary," Ye Xingchen said calmly.
Bai Yingyun frowned; she was unwilling to accept any help from Xia Jingyi.
"I've always been humble and never had direct conflicts with anyone. Who exactly is trying to kill me this time?" After a long silence, Bai Yingyun finally remembered an important question.
She had always been a person who didn't fight with the world. Who was so cruel as to not only kill her but also leave no trace of her remains?
"If I said it was Chen Zhengyi, would you believe me?" Ye Xingchen smiled slightly.
"Impossible." Bai Yingyun's expression changed drastically. "He's a man. He said he would let me go and give me freedom. How could he go back on his word? Besides, if he wanted to kill me, why didn't he just kill me then?"
Bai Yingyun didn't believe Chen Zhengyi was responsible; she firmly believed that she and he had been husband and wife for at least twenty years.
For the past twenty years, she has been under his control. Now that he's had his fill of playing around and is tired of it, can't he even give her some freedom?
"Do you really think Chen Zhengyi is a gentleman?" Ye Xingchen asked rhetorically.
"This..." Bai Yingyun was stumped by the question. She stood there, speechless.
Chen Zhengyi may not be a gentleman, but he was once an iron-faced war god. He shouldn't be so despicable, right?
"To put it bluntly, he's a despicable scoundrel." Ye Xingchen smiled slightly and said, "He didn't kill you because he wanted to maintain his sanctimonious image in front of you."
"In fact, he is just a narrow-minded person. He cannot tolerate that his woman is thinking about someone else."
Although Bai Yingyun was unwilling to believe it, what Ye Xingchen said seemed to be the truth. She staggered back a few steps, then her legs went weak and she collapsed to the ground with a thud.
She covered her face, and after a moment, large tears streamed from between her fingers.
