Chapter 465 Sudden Enlightenment

"Are you really that persistent?" Ye Xingchen turned to look at Chen Jin.

"President Chen is the future head of the family. I will serve the head of the family with unwavering loyalty. There's nothing to say about that," Chen Jin said coldly.

"Good, loyal and righteous enough." Ye Xingchen gave him a thumbs up, and he sneered, "But you will pay the price for it."

"So what? I'm willing to die for the patriarch. What's wrong with paying a price?" Chen Jin said with a sneer. "I have no face to face the patriarch if I don't complete the task he gave me. Go ahead and kill me if you dare."

“As I just said, if I kill you, no one will be able to go back and report. But since you are determined to die, I will grant your wish.”

Ye Xingchen flipped his right hand, and several silver needles appeared in his palm. He threw his right hand into the air, and three silver rays suddenly streaked across the air, with several soft sounds of "poof poof poof".

Chen Jin screamed and collapsed to his knees with a thud. He struggled to keep from falling and stared intently at Ye Xingchen with a sinister gaze.

"The bone-penetrating needles take effect every half hour. When they take effect, they travel through your blood vessels and the three needles eventually converge at the heart."

Ye Xingchen said with a smile, "When the needles converge, that's when your death will come, and every time it flares up, you will suffer endless pain."

"How much longer do I have?" Chen Jin asked, panting heavily.

"Three days. If you run fast enough, you might be able to go back and see your master. If you don't want to see him, then die in this desolate wilderness." Ye Xingchen smiled slightly.

Chen Jin remained silent. He struggled to his feet, turned around, and left.

Bai Yingyun sat in front of the cliff for a whole night, with Ye Xingchen keeping her company behind her.

"You continue on your way, I'm heading back to Yanjing," Ye Xingchen said, watching the sun rise in the east.

"Thank you for staying here with me." Bai Yingyun slowly raised her head, her spirits lifting. "I'm not going west anymore."

"Have you figured it out?" Ye Xingchen asked.

"I've figured it out." Bai Yingyun smiled. "Your father is an obstacle I can never overcome in this lifetime."

“Over the years, I have never let go of him. You said I suddenly found hope to live, because Chen Zhengyi told me something.”

"What is it?" Ye Xingchen asked expectantly, knowing that this matter was crucial.

"He said... back then, although the higher-ups sent people to investigate Ye Jinyu's case and the case was closed, no one actually saw him die."

Bai Yingyun stared at Ye Xingchen and said seriously, "No one can confirm that the person hanging on the city wall is Ye Jinyu."

"So you think my dad is still alive?" Ye Xingchen's eyes lit up.

“I don’t know, but although Chen Zhengyi is a despicable person, I know his character. He is very concerned about his reputation.”

Bai Yingyun said, "That was the last time I met him, so he wanted to remain a perfect figure in my memory."

"So he couldn't possibly be lying to me. That's why I'm going to the Western Frontier to find out about your father."

"No wonder you suddenly seemed so energetic." Ye Xingchen said, both amused and exasperated, "Then why aren't you going now?"

"Because I've figured it out." Bai Yingyun said with a faint smile, "The reason I can't forget him is because he's the one I'm obsessed with."

"Twenty years have passed. It's time to let go of this obsession. We were destined not to be together, so why force it?"

Ye Xingchen couldn't help but glance at her. The fact that she could say such things meant that she had truly come to terms with it.

"Ye Jinyu, he's like a man who can only exist in my dreams, destined not to be mine," Bai Yingyun murmured to herself.

"So what are your plans for the future?" Ye Xingchen asked after a moment's hesitation.

“I have no one left by my side, and I haven’t raised my son and daughter well,” Bai Yingyun said softly. “And all these years, I have dedicated everything I have to them.”

"I want to live for myself, but this world really doesn't mean much."

Bai Yingyun turned around and looked into the distance.

As far as she could see, atop a mountain stood a nunnery.

"Why not... enter the Buddhist order, sever these three thousand strands of hair that cause me trouble, and spend my days in the presence of the Buddha, becoming a person who is at peace with the world?"

Amidst the evening drum and morning bell, Bai Yingyun knelt before the Buddha, while an elderly nun in the temple stroked her long hair.

"Have you thought this through? Once you enter the Buddhist gate, all dharma is empty, and you will have no connection with the people and things of the past."

“Master, I have thought it through.” Bai Yingyun smiled faintly: “I am willing to live a simple life with a lamp and plain clothes, and from now on, everything in the mortal world will have nothing to do with me.”

"All phenomena arise from causes and conditions. Those who are deluded are truly deluded, while those who are enlightened are in a state of tranquility." The nun said calmly, "By severing desires and seeking nothing, one can attain enlightenment."

"Since you have severed your ties to this world, then come with me."

As the chanting of the wooden fish rang out, Bai Yingyun's beautiful hair slowly fell to the ground. Dressed in a gray robe, she had already entered the Buddhist order.

Ye Xingchen remained standing in front of the Buddhist hall, watching until she changed her appearance.

This woman has finally let go of her deepest obsession, and perhaps this is the best outcome for her.

Ye Xingchen was unsure whether he should congratulate her.

Yanjing, the Chen family.

Chen Jin died; he ultimately couldn't hold on until he saw Chen Anyi one last time in Yanjing.

Looking at Chen Jin's corpse, Chen Anyi was so furious that he didn't know how to express it.

Chen Jin was the person he trusted most, and he had been with him for fifteen years.

Because of the trust, he assigned this task to Chen Jin, but he never expected that this not-too-difficult task would actually cost Chen Jin his life.

“President Chen, Brother Chen held on until he reached Yanjing, but he was on his last breath. He… couldn’t make it to see you one last time.” A subordinate said with deep sorrow.

"Who did this?" Chen Zhengyi's expression was very calm, but those who knew him well knew that this was a sign that he was about to explode.

"Ye Xingchen, he was the one who stopped this mission." The subordinate took out a letter: "This is a letter that Brother Chen wrote to you before he left."

Chen Zhengyi took the letter. The letter contained very little information. He glanced at it a few times and then folded it up.

"You may all leave." Chen Zhengyi waved his hand, and everyone bowed slightly before turning and leaving.

After everyone left, Chen Zhengyi took out a bottle of wine and sat down in front of Chen Jin.

“Over the years, we have been master and servant, friends, and brothers.” Chen Zhengyi poured a glass of wine and spilled it on the ground. “But we have never been able to sit down and have a proper drink together.”

"I told you, the day I take over the Chen family, you will be the most powerful person in the Chen family besides me. We will work together and overcome all difficulties together, but now that we have reached the final moment, you have left?"
