"Don't bother trying, you can't change it." Xia Xueming glanced at Ye Xingchen, then smiled and said, "If the old lady passes away, Ruochu will only have you by her side."
"Grandpa..." Ye Xingchen smiled bitterly.
Just then, his phone rang; it was Li Yijin calling.
"Ye Xingchen, come quickly, Nannan is dying." Li Yijin's voice came through the phone, her voice trembling with tears.
"I'll be right there." Ye Xingchen frowned and hung up the phone: "Grandpa, I'm going out for a bit."
"Go ahead." Xia Xueming nodded with a smile.
Rushing to a hospital, Li Yijin was already waiting at the entrance. Upon seeing Ye Xingchen, she rushed over and hugged him tightly: "You've finally arrived! Quick, Nannan is being treated inside."
"What's going on?" Ye Xingchen asked.
"It's terrifying..." Li Yijin was so frightened that she cried. She couldn't even describe what had happened to Lü Yinan.
"It's a curse, don't panic." Ye Xingchen patted her shoulder to comfort her, and then followed her to a VIP ward.
The man in his forties was Lü Yinan's father, Lü Cheng, who was the chairman of the Lü Group, a well-known and powerful family in Beijing.
Now, the middle-aged man no longer had the authority of a head of the family. He roared in the ward, "Quickly go and call people, bring over the best experts in Yanjing. You must save my daughter's life no matter what."
Several bodyguards stood guard around him, but the scene inside the ward was chilling.
Lu Yinan was tied to the hospital bed, with bulging veins on her forehead, a pale face, and her mouth open, screaming incessantly. She looked like someone possessed by a ghost in a horror movie.
Several doctors and nurses held her down tightly, and one doctor held a syringe, trying to inject a sedative into Lü Yinan's body.
"Haven't they broken in yet?" one of the doctors roared.
"Director Yu, her muscles are too tense, the needle can't go in." The needle in the doctor's hand was bent.
"Get out of the way." Just then, several security guards rushed in, holding tranquilizer guns, and shot Lü Yinan twice in the thigh.
The powerful anesthetic took effect instantly, and Lü Yinan's vision went black before she finally calmed down.
Even the anesthetic couldn't put her to sleep; she stared with bloodshot eyes, panting heavily.
"Nannan, how are you feeling?" Lu Cheng pushed aside the bodyguard protecting him and stepped forward to ask with concern.
"Kill...I want to kill everyone in the Lü family. I want to avenge my mother." Lü Yinan stared at Lü Cheng with bloodshot eyes, looking as if she wanted to devour her own father alive.
"Mr. Lü, we are sorry that we are unable to help with your daughter's illness. Perhaps... we could take her to a specialized psychiatric hospital?" The department head wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.
“My daughter has always been fine. She has a good personality and it’s impossible for her to have a mental illness.” Lu Cheng’s face darkened as he looked at his daughter, feeling both heartache and lingering fear.
"But your daughter's condition... is clearly a delusional mental illness," the department head said.
"Then what's with the blue veins on her forehead? Can a mental illness really cause someone to look like that?" Lu Cheng asked angrily.
"It could be due to vasoconstriction caused by some medication she took, or it could be due to stress," the department head explained. "Moreover, some phenomena cannot be explained by science."
"Go and fetch the best experts, immediately," Lü Cheng ordered through gritted teeth.
“Yes, Mr. Lü.” A bodyguard hesitated for a moment, then said softly, “But Miss’s condition… doesn’t seem like an illness.”
"If it's not an illness, is it possession? What do you know? Speak." Lu Cheng was no ordinary person; he instantly understood the hidden meaning in the bodyguard's words.
“My grandfather was the village teacher when he was alive, so I know about these things. Miss’s situation… doesn’t seem like possession, but rather like a curse from Southeast Asia.” The bodyguard hesitated for a moment.
"A curse?" Lü Cheng's expression changed drastically: "Do you have a way to do that?"
“I can’t help you. My grandfather could handle it, but he’s passed away. However, he has an apprentice. If we ask him now, he should be able to arrive tomorrow,” the bodyguard said softly.
"Distant water cannot quench immediate thirst. Yanjing is so big, there must be some experts there. I will find someone to ask right away." Lü Cheng calmed down.
"Uncle Lü, no need to ask anymore, the expert has arrived." Just then, Li Yijin hurriedly pulled Ye Xingchen over.
"Yi Jin, do you know someone who is highly skilled?" Lu Cheng was taken aback.
"I know him, Ye Xingchen, he's my... friend." Li Yijin almost blurted out the word "husband."
But these kinds of things are fine to say to your own friends, but Lu Cheng is someone in the industry, and an elder at that, so you can't joke like that.
“Mr. Lü, your daughter is indeed under a curse. The situation is a bit complicated. I will exorcise the curse for her first,” Ye Xingchen said.
"Quickly, I'm begging you." Lu Cheng grasped at a straw.
He knew that although Li Yijin was young, she wouldn't act recklessly in this kind of matter.
Ye Xingchen stepped forward, ready to begin, when Director Yu became somewhat displeased: "President Lü, do you really believe in such things as black magic?"
“This…” Lu Cheng was stunned. Yes, he had been grasping at straws in his desperation.
“Miss Lü has a mental health issue. I suggest you transfer to another hospital immediately and find a psychologist to help her manage her emotions.” Director Yu glanced at Ye Xingchen sideways. “Besides, even if she’s been cursed, you should find a reliable expert. This young man is too young, isn’t he?”
Director Yu is also a psychiatric expert, holding various titles and enjoying special allowances from the State Council. He is an absolute talent.
This guy was also a staunch materialist. He didn't believe that Lü Yinan was possessed by an evil spirit at all, and he regarded such things as nonsense.
“You’re not young, and you’re the master, and you look like an expert.” Ye Xingchen glanced at him. “But you can at least cure people’s illnesses.”
"I..." Director Yu was speechless, then he said angrily, "Ms. Lü's condition requires further examination. We are not a professional psychiatric hospital, and our equipment is limited."
"Why don't you just say you're not a professional?" Ye Xingchen said calmly. "It's something that can be done in five minutes, but you insist on stopping me. Instead of wasting time here, why don't you let me try? Maybe it will work?"
"You..." Director Yu was about to lose his temper.
But at this moment, Lü Cheng spoke up: "I don't care who comes here or what their background is. I only have one request, and that is to cure my daughter's illness. Director Yu, if you really can't do it, then please step aside."
