Chapter 1071 Was I Wrong?

He glanced at Bai Zilin, who was still holding the gun in her hand, but she was staring at Ye Xingchen's face without moving.

"Is this the last time you'll act recklessly?" Ye Xingchen stepped forward and took the gun from her.

Bai Zilin is still in a state of high tension. If you don't take the gun out of her hand, she could accidentally discharge it at any moment.

"Why are you here?" Startled awake by Ye Xingchen's wake-up incantation, Bai Zilin finally regained her composure.

She looked up at Ye Xingchen, making no attempt to hide the tenderness deep in her eyes.

"I'll clean up the mess for you." Ye Xingchen pointed to the corpses scattered on the ground: "Many people died here. Changshan Prison fell, and a garrison in a nearby camp was attacked by aliens on a large scale, and almost the entire army was wiped out."

"The headquarters of Xuanyu Pavilion was attacked, and dozens of experts were killed in battle."

"This time, the Sixth Holy Temple mobilized its entire force, firstly to rescue Joss, and secondly to give China a warning, letting the world know that even the renowned China must avoid its sharp edge."

"If it weren't for the brothers of Xuanyu Pavilion risking their lives, and if it weren't for the intelligence department risking their lives to find out the location of the six explosives and poison gas bombs, most of Yanjing would be shrouded in poison gas now."

"Do you understand how many people will die then?"

"I..." Bai Zilin's tears fell. All these troubles were caused by her.

"While the Holy Curtain must be investigated and the Holy Temple must be dealt with, there needs to be a balance between different forces," Ye Xingchen said. "If you deal with the Holy Curtain, you'll offend the Holy Temple. Do you think they'll retaliate fiercely?"

"I was wrong." Bai Zilin collapsed to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably.

"These are lessons learned in blood, and I hope you can remember them. Water that is too clear has no fish. You must weigh the pros and cons before doing anything."

"This is what is called the way of balance, do you understand?"

"I understand..." Bai Zilin nodded, but what good was understanding? The dead could never come back.

She watched helplessly as her colleague died before her eyes.

"I understand, it's not too late." Ye Xingchen sighed: "From now on, whatever you do, you should think about the people who died in front of you."

"These people were not killed by you, but they died because of you."

Bai Zilin remained silent for a long time. Then, she slowly took off the police badge from her chest and placed it on the ground. She then took off her hat and placed it in front of the badge.

"Starting today, I resign from all my positions and become an ordinary person. I will no longer do foolish things for the sake of my inner convictions."

"Have you thought this through? Being a police officer is what you love most." Ye Xingchen looked at Bai Zilin with some surprise.

It's hard to imagine that this woman actually gave up her favorite profession.

"Because of my ignorance, I have implicated so many people. I have no face to continue." Bai Zilin smiled and murmured to herself, "It's good to be an ordinary person."

Ye Xingchen looked at her, unsure of what to say, after all, Bai Zilin was actually a pretty good police officer.

However, she was too impulsive and did not consider the consequences, which led to this disaster.

"I heard your dad is back?" Bai Zilin asked.

"Yes." Ye Xingchen nodded.

"That's good, congratulations." Bai Zilin smiled and gave Ye Xingchen a deep look. "Don't worry, I'm fine. I haven't had a break in all these years. I want to rest for a bit. Don't worry about me."

Ye Xingchen was speechless. It was unusual for Bai Zilin not to offer her own thoughts, which made Ye Xingchen feel somewhat uncomfortable.

Perhaps she has figured it out herself; the two of them are actually not a good match.

That's good, at least she can live an ordinary, mundane life.

Several days later, I settled on Qiwu Mountain.

Su Ruochu and Si Qianyu accompanied Ye Xingchen up Qiwu Mountain.

Recently, however, the front of Qiwu Mountain has been closed to visitors, and the once bustling scene of pilgrims coming and going is no longer there.

More importantly, a layer of dark clouds shrouded the back of Qiwu Mountain, which was an evil aura.

"A very strong demonic aura." Su Ruochu's expression gradually became serious.

Having survived her ordeal, her mind was now detached from worldly affairs. She had no intention of doing anything else and would stay by Ye Xingchen's side.

But these changes at Qiwu Mountain still surprised her somewhat.

"Something's happened, let's hurry over there." Ye Xingchen's expression turned slightly grim as he led the two into the mountain through the back mountain formation.

Upon entering, several Taoist priests stood ready with swords drawn; these were all inner disciples of Qiwu Mountain.

"All the Celestial Masters of Qiwu Mountain are in seclusion and will not receive guests. Please leave," the leading disciple said in a deep voice.

"My name is Ye Xingchen. I have an appointment with Zhang Shihao and have come to pay him a visit today." Ye Xingchen said, "Qiwu Mountain, what has happened here?"

"You mean that prodigy?" The leading disciple flew into a rage upon hearing Zhang Shihao's name. "If it weren't for him, how could Qiwu Mountain have become like this? Leave now, or you won't be leaving today."

"What exactly happened?" Ye Xingchen frowned.

"Enough talk, take him down!" The leading disciple shouted, raising his sword to attack Ye Xingchen.

With a flick of his hand, Si Qianyu sent several pebbles flying, and with a few muffled groans, several Taoist priests fell to the ground.

"Let's go up the mountain." Ye Xingchen didn't dare to delay any longer, and he, Su Ruochu, and Si Qianyu hurried up the mountain together.

Along the way, Qiwu Mountain was filled with demonic energy, as if some great demon had emerged from the Demon-Suppressing Tower.

"Ye Xingchen, Ye Xingchen..." Suddenly, Ye Xingchen heard a shout.

He quickly looked up and saw a girl running towards him. She was none other than Li Yijin.

Upon seeing Ye Xingchen, Li Yijin rushed over as if she had seen a savior. With a sob in her voice, she cried, "Please save my master! She's gone mad! She's going to release all the demons from the Demon Suppression Tower! The four Celestial Masters of Qiwu Mountain are currently confronting her."

"Where did Zhang Shih-hao go?" Ye Xingchen asked loudly.

“Zhang Shih-hao risked his life, hoping my master would change her mind, but she doesn’t recognize anyone now, and Zhang Shih-hao is almost half dead,” Li Yi-jin cried.

"You all stay here, I'll go check out the Demon Suppression Tower." Ye Xingchen's heart tightened, and he quickly went up the mountain.

Outside the Demon-Suppressing Tower, Zhang Guangling and several junior brothers guarded the tower, which had been mostly destroyed by the enchantments.

They were nearing the end of their rope, and it was clear they were struggling to stay afloat.

Among the formation was a bewitching woman, with eight enormous fox tails swaying back and forth behind her, exuding an awe-inspiring presence.

However, the bright red flame between her brows was so vivid that she was clearly on the verge of becoming a demon.

She was none other than Liuwei, Zhang Shih-hao's biological mother.
