Gu Yueji really felt tired.
It is often said that children owe their parents something when they are born, but sometimes she feels that parents also owe their children something, even if it is just an apology.
Gu Yueji looked at He Mei and Gu Nianwang, a hint of helplessness and despair flashing in her eyes.
“I’m closing my online store and quitting the garment factory. Jia Hui and I will go back to our hometown with you. I will have the baby and it will take our Gu family name. I will stay in our hometown with you two, whether we farm or work in town. From now on, I will have nothing to do with Ren Jin.”
Fearing that He Mei and Gu Nianwang wouldn't believe her, she turned to Ren Jin and said, "We'll go to the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow to submit our divorce application. Once the cooling-off period is over, we'll get the marriage certificate and go back to my hometown."
Ren Jin didn't speak, but stared at her with deep eyes, his breathing becoming heavy.
Gu Yueji didn't dare to look him in the eye. She looked up at Gu Jiahui and said, "Jiahui, go pack your things. We're going to stop broadcasting starting today, and I'll also close the online store in the next couple of days."
He Mei finally came to her senses, "Gu Zhaodi, what's wrong with you!"
Gu Yueji said calmly, "I'm not crazy, I'm serious. I know you all think the house and car aren't enough. As long as I'm with Ren Jin, you'll have opportunities to ask him for money. You've forgotten how you raised me since I was a child, but I haven't. Even if Ren Jin is willing to give you money, I'm not willing to give you a single penny! Let my life be ruined, I'll drag you along. I want you to rot with me."
Looking at the resolute expression on Gu Yueji's face, He Mei couldn't understand. "What did we do to make you hate us so much? Did we starve you or beat you? Look at all the daughters in our village, aren't they all raised like this? Aren't they all trying to get their husbands' families to help their own after they get married? Why do you have such a deep resentment?"
Gu Yueji once thought that when she grew up, she might be able to change her parents. She thought she could get an apology from them, and with just one sentence, she could erase all the grievances she had suffered over the years. However, she was wrong. She could not change anyone because they did not think they were wrong at all.
"Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right! Is it right to favor sons over daughters? Was it right to not care about me after I was born? Was it right to prevent me from going to school and force me to get married for money? Was it right for you and my husband to demand a car and a house and to destroy our marriage for money?!"
Gu Yueji's eyes welled up with tears again as she spoke, "Do you really think your daughter is worth that much? What can our family give Ren Jin? With such a high dowry, he can marry a woman a hundred times better off than me. Do you think I'm that special or special? You even took me back to your hometown so he'd never see me again? Ren Jin doesn't need me. With his status, there are plenty of women who want to marry him and have his children. Believe it or not, if I divorce him, he can immediately find an even better woman to have his children. He can have many, many children. He doesn't necessarily need to come and see the one in my belly!"
He Mei looked at Ren Jin after hearing Gu Yueji's words. He had his head down and seemed to be thinking about something. He just didn't deny it with a cold face.
After she arrived, she saw how much Ren Jin doted on Gu Yueji, which gave her the confidence to ask for the dowry. However, as Gu Yueji said, a man's heart can never be guaranteed to remain unchanged.
He Mei felt a little panicked. Gu Yueji was doing very well to marry this husband. There was no way she could find a man with Ren Jin's financial resources in the village. Moreover, Gu Yueji was making money in the city with Gu Jiahui. If Ren Jin divorced Gu Yueji now, they would have nothing. But she couldn't bring herself to ask him not to ask for a dowry.
He Mei was struggling with her decision when Gu Jiahui suddenly spoke up, "Sister, don't divorce your husband. I'm going back to my hometown with Mom and Dad tomorrow and I won't be coming back anymore. You and your husband should live a good life together. Thank you for taking care of me during this time."
Gu Jiahui took Sun Xiaohui's hand and said, "Huihui, let's go back to the room and pack our things."
Although Sun Xiaohui was surprised, she listened to Gu Jiahui.
Seeing them actually walking into the house, He Mei was stunned. She quickly stood up and grabbed them, "What are you doing?! You're not going to make money to get married? Why are you coming back with us?"
"Whatever happens, I won't come here again. I think my brother-in-law is right, I'm an ingrate. They've been so good to me, but now they're getting a divorce because of me."
Gu Jiahui took a deep breath in frustration, “I shouldn’t have told your sister about her pregnancy and discomfort. I was afraid something might happen to her, and I thought it was an opportunity to repair our family relationship and that our family could be as harmonious as other families. I was wrong. I shouldn’t have told you in the first place, and I shouldn’t have let you come.”
"What did we do to make you two siblings hate us so much? Who did we do these things for? For ourselves? How did we become sinners?!"
“You are my parents. I have not despised you, nor do I have the right to despise you. It’s just that sometimes I really feel pain. You have wronged my sister. My sister can cut ties with you, but I can’t. You have not wronged me. Everything you have done is for me, so no matter how much pain you cause me, I can only endure it.”
"Since that's the case, then I'll give my life back to you. Can I stay by your side and serve you for the rest of my life? Please don't come looking for my sister anymore, I beg you."
Gu Jiahui shook off He Mei's hand, went into the room, took out his suitcase and started packing. He Mei followed him into the room and kept making noise.
Gu Yueji, exhausted from listening in the living room, said, "Let's go back, okay?"
She tentatively took Ren Jin's hand, knowing that he had just been angry.
Fortunately, Ren Jin paused for a moment and did not shake off her hand.
