Autumn had arrived in the blink of an eye. When Ren Jin returned home that day, he saw steaming dishes on the dining table and heard the aroma and sounds of cooking in the kitchen, a stark contrast to the cold and desolate world outside.
He paused, then called out, "Wife?"
Gu Yueji came out of the kitchen. "You're back."
Ren Jin changed his shoes, his gaze fixed on her. "Didn't you say you'd be back tomorrow?"
Last month, Gu Yueji and Xiao Yao officially took over the garment factory. Since they didn't know anything when they first took over, and the factory was far from their home, Gu Yueji and Xiao Yao lived in the factory and learned management from the factory manager.
Gu Yueji had been spending several days a week at the factory for a month, staying in the factory dormitory at night instead of going home, and even doing her live streams from the dormitory. Ren Jin counted the days; it had been three days since he had seen her.
Gu Yueji held a spatula in her hand. "These past few days, when I video chatted with you, I noticed that you didn't reheat the food before eating it. Today, with the cold air coming in, I thought I'd come back a day earlier to cook you a hot meal."
Ren Jin glanced again at the steaming dishes on the table.
He was used to eating cold food from a young age. When he was little, his grandparents would prepare the food early in the morning before going to work in the fields, and by the time he got home from school, the food would be completely cold. As he grew up, he lived alone and worked day and night, so it was common for him to eat irregularly and he didn't care whether the food was hot or cold.
Having lived for 30 years, this scene of vibrant fireworks is only related to one person.
"There's only one more dish left. Go wash your hands and change your clothes." She said, turning and going back into the kitchen.
Ren Jin changed into slippers but didn't wash his hands before walking into the kitchen. He came up behind Gu Yueji and naturally wrapped his arms around her waist. "Is there anything I can do for you?"
Gu Yueji was taken aback. She put the lid on the pot and put down the spatula. "No need, just simmer for two more minutes." She turned around and pushed him. "Go change your clothes."
"Two minutes, right?" Ren Jin asked.
"Um."
"Okay, then I'll time you."
Before Gu Yueji could react, the hand on her waist suddenly tightened, pulling her into his arms. He lowered his head and kissed her.
Startled for a moment, Gu Yueji then wrapped her arms around his neck.
His kiss had the passion of someone who had just been apart for a short time.
Actually, she came back early because he had said resentfully last night that no one was having dinner with him.
She raised her chin in response to his fervor; she, too, longed for him.
Their lips met, and he tasted tobacco between his teeth. He had a habit of smoking, but she didn't like the smell of smoke in the house, so he never smoked at home.
She thought about it and hugged him even tighter.
The sheer strength of his arms, the broad heaving of his chest, and the heat of his breath made Gu Yueji's body go weak and her consciousness begin to waver. Just as she was waiting for his next move, he suddenly released her. "Alright, time's up."
Gu Yueji was panting and didn't hear what he said. She complained inwardly about why he had suddenly stopped.
After a while, Ren Jin pinched her waist, "If you don't hurry up and order, the food will burn."
She then seemed to wake from a dream, and in a panic turned around to turn off the stove and open the pot lid.
Fortunately, the food wasn't burnt.
She turned her head and glared at him, "Couldn't you just turn it off for a second!"
He grinned smugly, "I love seeing you completely smitten with me."
Gu Yueji blushed, furious. "If I'd known, I wouldn't have cared. Let's see what you're eating tonight."
Ren Jin looked at her flushed cheeks and whispered in her ear, "I'll eat you."
Gu Yueji got even angrier when she heard this. He pushed her away and started flirting with her again. She couldn't help but kick him and said, "Don't even think about it."
Seeing that she was really angry, Ren Jin smiled and hugged her, explaining, "I couldn't bear to waste the food you specially made for me after coming back." He affectionately kissed and licked her cheek, "Let's finish eating sooner so I can satisfy you sooner."
Gu Yueji hadn't expected him to stop for this reason, and shyly retorted, "Who's satisfying whom?"
Ren Jin raised an eyebrow. "If you want to satisfy me, you can't stop tonight."
Thinking of his seemingly inexhaustible strength, Gu Yueji already felt her legs go weak.
——
Xiao Yao worked alone in the factory until late at night. It was true that different industries are like different worlds. When she started to take over, she realized that the garment factory and her family's food processing plant were completely different things.
From understanding what cutting pieces, attaching sleeves, attaching collars, cutting hems, adding logos, ironing, and checking goods, to recognizing various fabrics and the cost of each process, she and Gu Yueji had to relearn everything step by step.
She also needed to learn how to assist Gu Yueji with live streaming so that Gu Yueji would have more time to manage the garment factory together. They were busy until late at night every day, the last to leave the factory, but Xiao Yao felt more fulfilled than ever before.
"Yao Yao".
Xiao Yao had just stepped out of the factory and was heading towards her dormitory when a familiar voice called out to her.
Turning around, she saw Zhong Xuyang leaning against his brown Porsche, looking at her.
Xiao Yao was stunned in surprise, and after a long while, she walked over in disbelief, "What are you doing here?"
Zhong Xuyang came up to her and pulled her into his arms before she even got close. "Come see my girlfriend."
He spoke casually, but Xiao Yao knew that it would take nearly 10 hours to drive from Yun City.
"When did you arrive? Why didn't you call me?" Xiao Yao asked.
He exuded a chill, and it was almost midnight.
"I arrived a while ago, and I didn't want to disturb your work, so I didn't call."
As Zhong Xuyang spoke, he unconsciously hugged the person even tighter.
In fact, Xiao Yao rarely answered his calls during the past month. She would only call or reply to him on WeChat after seeing his missed calls during her lunch break or dinner time.
