Chapter 17 How Did You Lie to People?

Ren Jin stared at her and smiled, eating the shrimp in his mouth as he laughed, thinking that the shrimp was really delicious and extremely sweet.

"Hey, hey, hey, why are you two getting so close in public?" His brother teased from the side.

Gu Yueji felt embarrassed, but Ren Jin, with his smile undiminished, sat back down and glanced at his friends, "So many dishes can't shut you up, huh?"

They started drinking again, laughing and joking, while Gu Yueji sat quietly eating to the side.

I had just picked up a piece of lamb chop for myself when a WeChat message popped up on my phone screen, confirming that Ren Jin had received the payment.

Gu Yueji glanced at it, then lowered her head and started gnawing on the lamb chop. She thought the lamb was quite fragrant, but a bit greasy. She preferred shrimp.

She finally finished the lamb chop and looked up to eat some shrimp, only to find the shrimp plate empty. Just as she was feeling a little disappointed, a hand reached out in front of her. She pulled the hand away, and a bowl of peeled shrimp appeared on her plate.

She looked at Ren Jin in surprise. He was chatting happily with his friends, not looking at her, and was wiping his hands with a tissue. The tissue was covered with the orange-red juice of shrimp.

Gu Yueji's lips slowly curved upwards as she picked up the bowl and placed it in front of her. She put the shrimp in her mouth and unconsciously chewed it more slowly.

She ate while listening to their conversation.

He and his friends could talk about anything, such as the bizarre orders they encountered while delivering food, a woman standing at her door looking at her watch, who wanted to cancel the order if he was even a second late, and a man who wrote another woman's name in the order notes for his girlfriend and then came to complain about him. He treated these as jokes and laughed with everyone, but as she listened, she felt a little sad.

He never talked to her about these things normally, but she remembered that every day when he came home, his clothes were either covered in salt stains or he was soaked to the bone from the rain.

Suddenly a friend asked, "Have you had any romantic encounters while delivering food?"

"Yeah, our Brother Jin is so handsome, he must have one, right?" After asking, someone looked at Gu Yueji meaningfully.

Gu Yueji was taken aback, and her face flushed as she thought about how they started.

As she was trying to figure out how to get Ren Jin to change the subject, he surprisingly replied, "Yes." He even looked at her after saying that.

Gu Yueji reached out to stop him, but he pinched her chin, looked into her eyes, and said, "This is my greatest romantic encounter."

The people at the table immediately started to jeer, and Gu Yueji blushed even more this time.

Unable to stand his friends constantly joking with them, Gu Yueji finally got up and went to the bathroom.

Stepping out of the private room, Gu Yueji let out a long sigh of relief, cupping her face in her hands and feeling the heat in them.

She hadn't experienced such a noisy atmosphere since college. Although she felt embarrassed being surrounded and teased by a group of grown men, Gu Yueji was quite happy. She liked the lively atmosphere, especially seeing Ren Jin laughing so heartily.

I wanted to go to the restroom to wash my face and cool it down, but after taking a couple of steps I realized I'd forgotten to bring tissues.

She turned to go back to the private room, and just as she was about to push open the door, she heard someone mention her name from inside the half-closed door.

"I think Gu Yueji is pretty good. She seems like someone who cares about people. Why did you try to fool her?"

Gu Yueji stood frozen at the doorway.
