Chapter 56 You've had such good luck in your life

During the rest of the dinner, Ren Yamei didn't dare to say anything to Ren Jin to try and reconcile. Ren Yayong had a dark face and tried to teach Ren Jin a lesson several times, but Ren Yamei stopped him each time, as if she was afraid that if Ren Yayong offended Ren Jin, Ren Jin would smash her car as well.

For many years, Ren Yamei had always been the wealthiest person in her family. Her husband was a section chief, and she was the eldest sister in the family. She was used to being high and mighty. When Ren Yayong came to her and exaggeratedly accused Ren Jin of disowning him as his father and kicking him out of the house, saying that he owned several houses and that his father had to work odd jobs and suffer, Ren Yamei immediately put on a show of upholding justice. She thought that Ren Jin was still the child she could talk to without arguing back, and she also thought that everyone would give her face. However, when Ren Jin stared at her with a fierce look and said that he would smash her car, Ren Yamei couldn't help but feel a chill. In all her years of dealing with all kinds of people, she could tell at a glance who was just bluffing and who would actually do what they said to make you suffer.

Ren Jin is no longer the junior she could easily discipline; he can now turn the tables and make her suffer.

Ren Jin was pleased to see Ren Yamei shut up and turn to chat with Ren Yajuan, while Ren Yayong's family glared at him, looking angry but unable to speak out. Just as Gu Yueji had said, he treated it as a joke and continued to peel oranges for Gu Yueji.

When Ren Yamei's husband, Zhou Chuanyong, led his son, daughter-in-law, daughter, son-in-law, grandson, granddaughter, and several middle-aged people into the private room, Ren Jin finally understood why Ren Yamei had booked such a large private room. Their family took up more than half of the table. Those who knew them thought it was to celebrate Ren Yajuan's birthday, but those who didn't would think it was their family hosting a banquet.

Gu Yueji asked Ren Jin curiously who those middle-aged men were, and Ren Jin shook his head to indicate that he did not recognize them.

It wasn't until one of the middle-aged men called the manager over, took the menu and ordered a lot of food, and then asked Zhou Chuanyong a few questions that Zhou Chuanyong waved him off before he handed the menu back to the manager.

After witnessing this familiar sequence of actions, Ren Jin finally understood what kind of people these middle-aged men were.

He has to deal with all sorts of people in his engineering work, and treating others to meals is a regular occurrence for him. However, treating others to meals is not as simple as just sitting down and having a meal together, especially for someone like him who has no background or connections. If he wants to climb the social ladder, he needs to know how to be flexible and adaptable.

You might be invited to a dinner party with strangers. You might not know anyone at the table, and you might not exchange more than a few words with the person who invited you. But you still have to go because you have an even more important role to play: ordering food and paying the bill.

He had heard from his aunt that Zhou Chuanyong was the head of a section in the Urban Construction Bureau, but he didn't know exactly what he did. However, considering that Ren Yamei's family owned several properties, bought one Audi after another, and was covered in gold jewelry, Zhou Chuanyong's official position might not be high, but it must be a good one. No wonder Ren Yamei, as an official's wife, had such a big attitude.

Ren Jin didn't want to try to get involved with Zhou Chuanyong. When they sat down to eat, he pulled Gu Yueji to sit in a lower seat. However, Zhou Chuanyong suddenly called his name, "Xiao Jin, there are seats here. Come and sit here with your wife."

Ren Jin was taken aback by his familiar tone. He had only met Zhou Chuanyong a handful of times and had barely exchanged a few words with him. He had no idea why Zhou Chuanyong had specifically asked him to sit next to him.

But since he had already spoken, Ren Jin couldn't refuse, so he could only pull Gu Yueji over to sit next to him and Ren Yamei.

Before the dishes were served, several middle-aged men asked the waiter to open two bottles of Moutai and pour them into a liquor pot. Then the waiter poured the liquor for everyone at the table. When they poured for Ren Jin and Gu Yueji, Ren Jin stopped the glass and politely declined, saying, "We don't drink, thank you."

Hearing this, Zhou Chuanyong, who was sitting not far away, disagreed. "Xiao Jin, why don't you drink? It's rare for us to come out for dinner, so we should have some drinks to liven things up. You usually drink a lot when you go out to eat, so you must have a good alcohol tolerance. Have a few drinks with your uncle tonight. Here, waiter, pour him some."

Gu Yueji was secretly displeased. She hated it when people urged her to drink, and she hated it even more when people urged Ren Jin to drink, because she knew how uncomfortable Ren Jin felt every time he came home drunk. His stomach would be sore from vomiting. She couldn't help it when he was socializing, but why was he being urged to drink at a regular family dinner?

She helped Ren Jin decline, saying, "Ren Jin has a bad stomach, so he should try not to drink alcohol."

However, Zhou Chuanyong acted as if he hadn't heard, and turned to introduce Ren Jin to the middle-aged men, "This is my wife's nephew, Ren Jin. He's currently contracting Xuji's projects and is doing a very good job."

Ren Jin frowned upon hearing this.

The middle-aged men, who hadn't exchanged a single glance with Ren Jin, now all turned to look at him, seemingly understanding each other perfectly. "No wonder he's Zhou Ke's nephew. Xuji Construction Site, indeed, has real strength."

Ren Jin had never told Zhou Chuanyong which construction site he worked at, but now he was deliberately pointing out to others that he was an engineer and that he was Zhou Chuanyong's nephew.

Ren Jin glanced at the middle-aged men at the table, and then, thinking about Zhou Chuanyong's work at the Urban Construction Bureau, he immediately understood.

Then Zhou Chuanyong introduced them to him, saying, "These two are Mr. Sun and Mr. Chen, both big real estate tycoons in our area. I thought since you're here for dinner today, I'd introduce you two. There will definitely be many opportunities for cooperation in the future."

The middle-aged men immediately swarmed around Ren Jin like bees smelling honey, pulling out their phones to ask for his number. Ren Jin hesitated for a moment, and they exchanged numbers.

The meal, ostensibly a birthday celebration for Ren Yajuan, felt more like a social gathering organized by Zhou Chuanyong. Before all the dishes were served, they were already drinking one glass of wine after another.

Under Zhou Chuanyong's repeated urging, Ren Jin drank a few cups and became somewhat tipsy. Zhou Chuanyong took the cup and walked to Ren Jin's side, saying, "I didn't know what you did before. I only found out when your dad came to our house a while ago. Don't say your uncle didn't take care of you. We have so many projects in our bureau that we can't finish them all. These people are your uncle's good friends. In the future, when there's money, your uncle will take you to make it together."
