She heard Sun Ziru calling her name from behind, but it was only once before it was drowned out by the man's voice.
After being pulled into the car by Ren Jin, Gu Yueji sat there blankly, her mind still completely empty.
Sun Ziru once said that he had a lover, but didn't say it was his girlfriend. He was so resistant to her kisses that she thought it was just because he had someone else in his heart.
Everything seemed so absurd and ridiculous at this moment that she didn't know whether to cry or laugh.
Gu Yueji's phone rang in her bag. She took it out and saw it was Sun Ziru calling. Ren Jin got into the car, saw her staring blankly at her phone, took it from her, turned it off, and tossed it back into her bag.
"Where do you want to go now?" Ren Jin asked as he turned the steering wheel and drove the car away.
Gu Yueji thought for a moment, "I want to drink."
Ren Jin nodded readily, "Okay."
Ren Jin took Gu Yueji to his favorite bar, parked the car at the entrance, tossed the car keys to the valet, and went inside with her.
He had originally wanted a booth, but she went straight to the bar and asked the bartender, "What's the strongest drink here?"
The bartender recognized Ren Jin and looked at him first after hearing Gu Yueji's words.
Ren Jin looked at the woman and thought to himself, with her alcohol tolerance of just beer, she still wants the strongest liquor. But he turned to the bartender and said, "As long as it doesn't make her head hurt, she can drink whatever she wants."
People come to drink to vent, so let her vent if she wants to.
After drinking two glasses of slightly stronger liquor, Gu Yueji started to feel dizzy.
She took the initiative to chat with Ren Jin, asking, "Why do you think men like to lie so much?"
Thinking of the things she had said to him, Ren Jin deliberately mocked her, "Aren't you feeling desperate, realizing that no man is honest?"
She nodded in agreement, "Yes, finding a man who doesn't lie is harder than finding a pig that can fly."
The man she was referring to definitely included him. Ren Jin was so angry that he pinched her cheek, but she brushed it away in dissatisfaction.
He was never good at comforting people, nor did he intend to comfort her. He just watched her drink glass after glass while he drank some non-alcoholic beverages with her.
When Zhao Weiwei called, he remembered that there was such a thing, and slowly answered the phone.
The person on the other end seemed angry. "Where did you go? You disappeared after parking the car. We were almost finished eating."
Ren Jin checked the time; it had been over an hour since he left the restaurant. He only remembered to call him now. It was no wonder he left so easily.
"I'm leaving. You can pay your bill and leave after you're done eating."
Zhao Weiwei thought she had misheard. "You left? You're making us pay the bill ourselves? Wasn't it you who treated my girlfriends to dinner today?"
"If you don't want to get married yourself, that's fine. You can call that Huang Xun or some other man to help you get married, just don't come to me. I'm telling you clearly now, I don't like you, and don't contact me again. That's it." After saying that, Ren Jin hung up on her and blocked her number.
He made the call in front of Gu Yueji. When Gu Yueji heard his words, she turned around and spat at him, calling him a "scumbag."
She was already slurring her words with drunkenness, her pronunciation weak and soft. Ren Jin found it adorable and threatened her with a smile, "Do you believe I'll leave you here?"
The confusion in her eyes suddenly vanished, she pursed her lips, and lowered her eyes. "It doesn't matter, go ahead and throw it away. It's not like I haven't been through this before."
Ren Jin was taken aback; she had already turned away and continued drinking.
From the first time they met, she left him with the impression that she would never be taken advantage of. Later, when they lived together, she was independent and capable in everything, which is why he felt so comfortable enjoying her care and thought that she could handle everything.
Her vulnerability at that moment made him realize that she was also a woman, a woman in her twenties who needed to be taken care of.
He stared at her intently; she was toying with her wine glass, already swaying unsteadily from drunkenness.
Her lips, glistening and full from the alcohol, resembled cherries on a cocktail, making one want to take a bite. The neckline of her dress was a bit low, and as she leaned against the bar, the beautiful curves of her chest were faintly visible.
Remembering that he had once seen the complete appearance of that place, the heat quickly moved down to a certain part of his lower body.
He didn't understand why, but when Zhao Weiwei hugged and kissed him, he couldn't muster any enthusiasm. Now, just looking at this person aroused him.
He was engrossed in watching when Gu Yueji suddenly turned around and said, "Let me tell you a story."
