Sun Ziru went to park the car, while Gu Yueji accompanied his parents to the private room, feeling uneasy and unsure of what to say.
She has never known how to get along with her elders since she was a child. When she was young, she had nothing to say to her parents. When she grew up, Ye Zurong's mother also said that she was too dull and had no sweet words.
Fortunately, Sun Ziru's parents were both very kind. His mother took her hand and asked with concern, "Are you so thin because you're too busy with work and don't eat on time?"
Gu Yueji smiled and, in order to leave a good impression and not seem so dull, deliberately talked more, "I am a bit busy with work, but I usually cook for myself, and I eat quite a lot, I weigh over 90 pounds."
Sun's mother patted her hand, "Why aren't you losing weight at 90 pounds? Health is the most important thing, daughter. No matter how much money you earn, it's not as important as your health, you know?"
Feeling the care of her elders for the first time, Gu Yueji was very touched and felt closer to them. "I know, Auntie, I will take good care of myself."
Grandma Sun held her hand tightly, her eyes shining as she stared at her.
Gu Yueji scratched her hair and asked, puzzled, "Auntie, why are you looking at me like that?"
"Yueji, Auntie really likes you. You seem like a good girl. I really hope you and Ziru can get married soon. Auntie promises that Ziru will definitely be a good husband, and you will be very happy after your marriage."
Gu Yueji was stunned.
They had only met for the first time. Although she was quite happy to have won over Sun Ziru's parents, the sudden pressure to get married made Gu Yueji feel inexplicably uncomfortable.
Moreover, Sun Ziru hadn't mentioned marriage to her at all, so Gu Yueji didn't know how to respond. She could only blink and smile without answering.
After sitting in the private room for a while, Sun Ziru still hadn't returned. Fearing that Sun Ziru's parents might be hungry, Gu Yueji called over the waiter to order. "Uncle and Aunt, what would you like to eat?" Gu Yueji handed them the menu.
“We’re all very casual. Just order what you and Ziru like to eat. You’re so thin, so order more of what you like.”
“I’m not a picky eater, I can eat anything. Is this your first time here, Uncle? I’ll order some local specialties for you to try, Sun Ziru also likes local food.” Gu Yueji looked at Sun Ziru’s parents questioningly.
The two elderly people smiled kindly at her, "Okay, we'll listen to you. Ziru's father and I don't have any dietary restrictions. You even know Ziru's tastes?"
"Ziru has a light palate and likes sweets. Ziru and I have eaten local dishes a few times, and he likes them quite a bit."
Sun Ziru's parents looked at Gu Yueji with satisfaction, "It seems that we parents don't understand him as well as you, his girlfriend."
Gu Yueji felt embarrassed by their compliments and could only lower her head to order food.
However, after all the food was ordered, Sun Ziru still hadn't returned. Gu Yueji couldn't help but feel a little strange. There were parking spaces right in front of the hotel, so why had he taken so long?
Just as she picked up her phone to call Sun Ziru, Sun's mother pulled her aside and began to question her.
"Yueji, what do you do for a living? Don't blame me for asking so many questions, Ziru only said that he has a girlfriend, and he won't say anything else. I'm just asking casually, please don't mind."
Gu Yueji put down her phone and answered honestly, "It's okay, Auntie. I'm a live streamer. I usually do live streams at home to promote my family's online store."
This job might not be considered a good job in the eyes of the elders, but Gu Yueji had no intention of hiding it.
To everyone's surprise, Sun's mother seemed quite delighted. "A livestreamer? Is it like Li Jiaqi, who tries out products online through livestreams?"
Gu Yueji was surprised that her aunt knew Li Jiaqi, and said with a light laugh, "Yes, that's about right. He was there to try on cosmetics, and I was there specifically to try on clothes from our store."
“Working from home is good, the hours are flexible, and it will be easier to take care of the children when you have them. But it doesn’t matter if you don’t have time, your uncle and I will retire next year, and we will help you take care of them. You can have as many children as you want.”
Gu Yueji was stunned again. Was Sun's mother urging her to get married and now she was urging her to have children?
Just then, Sun Ziru pushed the door open and, upon hearing his mother's words, immediately interrupted her, "Mom, why are you saying this? Didn't we agree that today was just a simple meeting and a meal?"
Everyone looked at Sun Ziru at the same time, only to see that he had a sullen face and his lips, which usually held a faint smile, were now tightly pursed.
Being told this in public clearly displeased Sun's mother. "Yueji and I were just having a good chat, and it was bound to happen sooner or later, so what's wrong with saying it?"
Sun Ziru frowned, his face growing even colder. He opened his mouth to say something, but Gu Yueji immediately climbed onto his arm to comfort him, "It's alright, Auntie and I had a very pleasant chat."
Sun Ziru's father also tried to smooth things over, saying, "Your mother and I both like Xiao Gu very much and we won't bully her, so don't be so nervous."
Unexpectedly, Sun Ziru's lips curled into a cold smile, "How could you not like her?"
This was the first time Gu Yueji had seen him with such an expression, and she was somewhat surprised.
Sun Ziru had already sat down beside her, gave her a complicated look, and reached out to hold her hand. "I'm sorry."
Gu Yueji looked at him blankly, "What's wrong? Why are you suddenly apologizing?"
"Has my mother been pressuring you all along?"
Gu Yueji was surprised that Sun Ziru knew, and shook her head, "No, Auntie and I just talked about my work."
Sun Ziru, still holding her hand, had a gloomy expression. Gu Yueji felt that Sun Ziru was acting strangely tonight and wanted to ask him what was wrong, but his phone suddenly rang.
Sun Ziru picked up his phone and saw a string of numbers. His expression darkened further, and he immediately hung up.
