"Honey, I want to eat strawberries. Could you buy me some from the fruit shop downstairs when you come back?"
Ren Jin was at the construction site, where there was a loud rumbling noise. He shouted at the top of his lungs, "What's wrong with my ancestors wanting to eat strawberries? We have to buy them!"
Ever since the birthday party, this person has loved calling her "ancestor." Gu Yueji always wants to laugh when she hears it, but Ren Jin really takes care of her as if she were an ancestor.
"Just go to the fruit shop at the entrance of the community and buy a pound. I saw it yesterday and it was only 15 yuan a pound."
"Okay, I got it. Didn't you say you wanted to eat licorice fruit this morning? I'll buy a few more kinds of fruit and make it for you too."
Gu Yueji's mouth watered at the thought of the licorice fruit. "Do you know where I can buy licorice powder?"
"I don't know where to buy licorice powder, but I know a shop that sells licorice fruit very well. I can go to the shop and ask the owner to buy some licorice powder to take home. I'll mix whatever fruit you want to eat with it."
Gu Yueji laughed upon hearing this, "It seems that having a husband who delivers takeout is not so bad."
She is now experiencing early pregnancy symptoms and often doesn't want to eat, but craves strange foods. Sometimes she can't name the specific food, but she can describe the flavor, such as sour and spicy, crispy, or sweet and sticky. Ren Jin can then buy food that suits her taste based on her description.
She enjoyed her meal but was also surprised at how he managed to do it. Ren Jin said it was thanks to delivering takeout for several months that he knew all kinds of restaurants like the back of his hand, and now he could serve his wife with ease.
Ren Jin felt that the praise wasn't enough, "You can just praise your husband directly."
Gu Yueji immediately praised him without hesitation, "Of course, my husband is the best husband in the world."
Ren Jin was so pleased with himself that his mouth was practically pointing to the sky.
Qian Mingjun supported his back, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and looked at Ren Jin standing under the blazing sun, beaming with joy, a stark contrast to his earlier stern and cursing demeanor at the construction site.
Ren Jin has never been a good-tempered person. When he gets angry, no one on the entire construction site is afraid of him. But if he had a good temper, he wouldn't be able to control more than two hundred people.
They had just gone to the construction site to check on the progress when they overheard two workers talking behind their backs about how low their wages were. They mentioned that a newly started construction site was hiring and offering higher wages. The workers complained about Ren Jin and even encouraged everyone to switch jobs and go to that construction site.
Ren Jin was furious when he heard this. It wasn't that he didn't allow others to criticize him; he wasn't a hundred-dollar bill and couldn't be liked by everyone. But talking about him in public like this at work not only affected the work progress and disrupted the work order, but also affected his ability to manage others in the future.
Ren Jin didn't hold back either. He walked directly up to the two complaining men and said they could leave now if they wanted, and he wouldn't stop them. The workers were so frightened that they quickly apologized to Ren Jin. Ren Jin's face was dark and sour. He didn't say it was okay, but pointed at them and made an example of them, saying, "Either work hard, or get out of here immediately."
Ren Jin's construction site may not have the highest wages, but they are definitely not less than others. The key point is that he has never defaulted on workers' wages, so there are many people who want to work on his construction site.
Today's matter is a minor one. Qian Mingjun knows how much work pressure Ren Jin is under. He has to deal with inspections from various government departments, nitpicking from the supervision company, and the client's push for deadlines. He also has to manage so many people, control the cost of various materials, and manage the financial pressure. None of these things can go wrong.
No matter how busy or stressed Ren Jin was, he had never seen Ren Jin get angry at Gu Yueji. Whenever he saw Ren Jin talking on the phone with a smile, it was definitely Gu Yueji calling.
Ren Jin hung up the phone, his anger from cursing subsided, but he was starting to miss Gu Yueji. She had said she had no appetite that morning, and he didn't know if she had eaten properly. He was really worried about her being home alone.
Looking up at Qian Mingjun beside him, he said, "I'm going back to be with your sister-in-law this afternoon. She's pregnant and there's no one else at home to take care of her. I'll have to trouble you to help me manage things at the construction site during this time."
Qian Mingjun knew how worried Ren Jin was about Gu Yueji. "Don't worry, brother, I'll definitely keep an eye on the construction site. If all else fails, you can have my mom come over and help take care of your sister-in-law. She'll definitely be willing."
Ren Jin lowered his head and thought for a moment. This was not a bad idea. After all, he and Gu Yueji's parents could not be relied on. Later, when Gu Yueji was more pregnant, she would need help until the baby was born. They were both new parents and didn't know anything.
"Thanks, I'll go back and discuss it with your sister-in-law. I'm afraid it will be hard on my aunt."
"We're family, why be so polite? Letting my mom take care of my sister-in-law will help distract her and stop her from constantly nagging me to get married."
Ren Jin, recalling his own past reluctance to get married, remarked with feeling, "If you meet the right person, don't hesitate. The feeling after marriage is truly different."
Upon hearing this, Qian Mingjun rubbed his arms and said, "Brother, your tone is giving me goosebumps. You're thinking about what your sister-in-law said, right?"
Ren Jin smiled and looked down. He was indeed feeling sentimental about the wonderful married life because he thought of Gu Yueji, but he didn't want to lecture Qian Mingjun. "Anyway, if you meet a girl you like, just go for it. If you have any difficulties, tell me."
"Okay, thank you, brother."
As they walked out of the construction building, Ren Jin handed the helmet to Qian Mingjun. "I'm going back now. Investigate today's events discreetly. If anyone is really stirring up trouble, tell them to get lost immediately."
Qian Mingjun nodded. "Even if you didn't tell me, I was going to investigate anyway to see who was trying to cause trouble."
As the saying goes, "A large forest has all kinds of birds." With so many people on a construction site, there will be all sorts of people. Managers are most afraid of encountering troublemakers. If someone takes the lead in causing trouble, it will be a big problem. So, we must pay attention to even the slightest signs and take preventative measures to avoid major incidents.
