Chapter 1 Do you love your wife?

"Honey, how much longer until you come back?"

After broadcasting live for more than a month, Gu Yueji finally decided to take a day off and call Ye Zurong, whom she hadn't had a proper chat with in a long time, to ask him when he would be back.

Before the Spring Festival, Ye Zurong went back to his hometown for the holiday, leaving Gu Yueji alone in their rented room.

During the five years that Gu Yueji was with Ye Zurong, she never went home with him to meet his parents.

Ye Zurong and Gu Yueji both came from poor families. Gu Yueji's family lived in a remote mountain valley where it took several transfers and then walking to get home. Although Ye Zurong's family lived in a town, his parents were just ordinary workers in a closed factory. From the time Ye Zurong was born, the three of them lived in a factory dormitory of less than 50 square meters.

Ye Zurong said that he would wait until they made money before taking her home to meet his parents in a grand ceremony and getting married. Gu Yueji thought it made sense. Right now, they were still in debt and starting their business, and they wouldn't have the money to get married even after meeting his parents, so she never urged Ye Zurong to get married.

It wasn't until one day, when she overheard Ye Zurong video chatting with his parents, that she realized the reason Ye Zurong never brought her home was because his parents looked down on her.

Although she and Ye Zurong were classmates and graduated from the same prestigious university, in his parents' eyes, she was a girl from the countryside with no family background or financial strength. She couldn't provide a decent dowry when they got married, and she couldn't help Ye Zurong in his career after marriage. They just didn't approve of her.

Even though Ye Zurong was a poor student like her who could only complete his studies through student loans, in his parents' eyes, Ye Zurong was handsome and refined, and had graduated from a top university, so they could find a better girl than her.

Upon graduation, Ye Zurong declared his intention to start his own business. He passionately declared that he was determined to provide a better life for his parents and her. She, somewhat bewildered, did not look for a job and devoted herself entirely to starting the business with him.

Starting a business is not as simple as imagined. They have been running a Taobao store for three years since graduation. In the past few years, they have not only failed to make money, but have also accumulated a lot of debt.

Fortunately, the store gradually started to improve at the end of last year. Especially after they started doing live streaming sales this year, sales began to increase, and she seemed to see hope, so she was full of energy every day.

Before Ye Zurong went home, they chatted and said that maybe next year they could pay off the loan and start saving money to get married.

Because of the sudden outbreak of the epidemic in his hometown, Ye Zurong has been staying in his hometown for more than two months since returning home for the Spring Festival.

They video chat every day. Ye Zurong reminds her of things to pay attention to during the epidemic and not to go out unless necessary. He talks a lot every day. This might be nagging to other women, but Gu Yueji likes it when someone nags her like this. It makes her feel cared for and especially warm.

Because the epidemic situation in their province and city is relatively mild, transportation and logistics are normal. With more people staying at home during the epidemic, the number of viewers watching the live stream has also increased significantly. Gu Yueji maintains a live stream time of 10 hours every day. After the live stream, she has to arrange for shipments, answer customer inquiries online, and then brainstorm the content of the next day's live stream outfits. She does all of this by herself. Sometimes she is so busy that she only eats one meal a day, and the time she spends video chatting with Ye Zurong is also greatly reduced.

Two weeks ago, she video-chatted with Ye Zurong, hoping he would come back soon, as she was becoming increasingly overwhelmed with the shop's affairs. However, before she could even speak, he said his parents were unwell and he needed to stay home to take care of them for a while, so he couldn't come back for the time being.

She didn't know what else to say, and just told him to take good care of his parents.

She was so busy this week that she got several negative reviews for sending the wrong items. She apologized to the customers for a long time, and even gave them red envelopes and discounts before they finally changed their negative reviews.

She was angry and wanted to call Ye Zurong to complain, but the other end of the line was bustling with activity.

"Yueji..." Ye Zurong had just started speaking when a burst of cannon fire immediately drowned him out, followed by cheers, congratulatory words, and someone vaguely calling out to the groom.

Gu Yueji frowned. She hadn't heard Ye Zurong mention that anyone in his family was getting married, and weren't his parents feeling unwell?

Just as he was about to ask again when he would be back, a woman's voice came from the other end of the phone, "Ye Zurong, why are you still calling? Get in the car."

Gu Yueji was taken aback. The familiar tone of voice carried an air of self-righteous dominance, but the voice belonged neither to Ye Zurong's mother nor his sister.

"Alright, don't make the call now. I'll hold the phone for you." This time, it was Ye Zurong's mother who spoke, and Gu Yueji recognized the voice.

Immediately afterwards, the call was disconnected.

Gu Yueji tried calling back, but the call couldn't be connected.

Staring blankly at her phone for a long time, Gu Yueji could still hear the noise from the call. She tried to recall every sound and make out something.

Then, in a split second, a ridiculous idea popped into her somewhat blank mind.

Later, Gu Yueji realized that this ridiculous idea might just be a woman's sixth sense, which is both keen and accurate, and makes women exceptionally determined.

Gu Yueji did nothing all day but keep calling Ye Zurong on her phone. Even though she couldn't get through, she was like a man possessed, calling and calling from night until dawn.

Every "The number you dialed is temporarily unavailable" felt like a stone pressing down on Gu Yueji's heart, making it hard for her to breathe, yet also making her heart feel grounded and resolute.

Finally, she lay exhausted on the sofa, presumably asleep, because when she opened her eyes again, the morning sun had turned into a blazing blaze, and her phone was vibrating in her hand.
