He'd done many jobs, but delivering food was a first for him. At first, because he wasn't familiar with it, he only delivered 10 orders a day. At 2 yuan per order, that wasn't even enough for a meal. Later, after figuring out the tricks of the trade, including the order subsidies, he's now earned several thousand yuan in a month.
The main thing is that being able to go out and run around to kill time is better than being bored at home.
Why should I pay for your package?
"Who told you to leave the package here without my permission? This 5 yuan is because of you. If you don't pay, who will?"
"I wouldn't give you anything that costs less than 5 yuan."
"If you don't give it to me, I'll file a complaint saying I'm not receiving my package."
Ren Jin heard the two arguing from afar. He glanced at them to watch the spectacle and thought that women nowadays were becoming increasingly fierce. They didn't give an inch to men twice their size, and their aggressive and shrewish manner was completely devoid of feminine gentleness and elegance.
"Damn it, your package is right here, why are you saying you didn't receive it? I have a bunch of other packages to deliver, I'm not going to argue with you." The deliveryman impatiently turned to leave.
Gu Yueji quickly grabbed him, "You can't leave, get my package out first."
The deliveryman was already annoyed. He glared at Gu Yueji with disgust, lifted the hand she was holding, and flung it away forcefully, immediately throwing Gu Yueji off.
When Ren Jin saw the two of them start fighting, he picked up his takeout and walked straight past, not wanting to get involved.
However, the woman was suddenly thrown aside by the deliveryman, and she stumbled backward. Before he could react, she fell into his arms.
A strong scent of mass-market shampoo and cheap cosmetics wafted over, and Ren Jin looked down.
A pair of panicked eyes stared at him, wide and round, their trembling gaze like that of some harmless animal. But the dark circles under her eyes were so heavy that even makeup couldn't conceal them, making her look several years older. Her face was also covered in a thick layer of powder, obscuring her original skin tone. She was so thin that bumping into him felt like walking on bones, making him uncomfortable. His gaze swept downwards; the woman wore a tank top with a cardigan over it. From his angle, her chest appeared soft and white, with a faint cleavage visible.
Gu Yueji could feel the strong, powerful arms gripping her. The moment she fell backward, her first thought was that she had hit a wall, solid and unshakable. When she turned around, she realized it was a man. The man was very tall; at 165 cm, she only reached his shoulder. He wore a yellow helmet and a blue mask, revealing only his thick, sword-like eyebrows and deep-set double eyelids.
Gu Yueji was about to say thank you when she noticed the man's eyes were fixed on a spot below her collarbone, making no attempt to hide it. She struggled to get up and pushed the man away.
Ren Jin was jolted by the push, looked up and saw Gu Yueji's wary gaze and the way she pulled her cardigan to cover her chest, and sneered.
What's wrong with just glancing at him? She still threw herself into his arms.
"If you keep whining and hugging and flirting with other men here, I'll tell your boyfriend." The deliveryman glanced at them lewdly, a suggestive smile on his face.
Whether it was his words or his expression that stung Gu Yueji, she angrily pointed at the deliveryman, "Fine, go find him then! He's dead! Go down and tell him!"
As soon as Gu Yueji finished speaking, Ren Jin and the deliveryman were both stunned.
Ren Jin looked at Gu Yueji and noticed that her eyes were slightly red. Unsure if she was telling the truth, he could only advise the deliveryman, "Brother, just talk it out. We're all just trying to make a living. If you hurt her, it won't be worth it."
Gu Yueji was initially a little scared, but seeing a man speak up for her, she became even more confident. She raised her neck and confronted the deliveryman, saying, "Yes, hitting someone is illegal. Go and get my package right now. If you don't, I'll call the police and say you hit me. This is my witness!"
Ren Jin was stunned. He stared at the finger Gu Yueji was pointing at him. Her fierce appearance made it seem as if the redness in her eyes just now was just his illusion.
Despite his kind words of advice, Ren Jin was still being pestered. Unwilling to say another word, he turned around and wanted to leave, no longer wanting to get involved.
However, Gu Yueji grabbed him, saying, "Handsome, don't go! You're my witness."
"Miss, I have to deliver food, I don't have time to be your witness."
Gu Yueji remembered that her takeout was also arriving, and subconsciously glanced at his takeout order. To her surprise, it really did have her phone number on it. She gripped Ren Jin's clothes even tighter. "No need to deliver it. Your takeout is mine. Leave it here as a witness."
Ren Jin glanced at her, disbelieving it was such a coincidence. "Don't just spout nonsense. If you don't deliver it, I'll come after you for the fine."
Gu Yueji pointed to the takeout order and said, "Minji Beef Rice, Building 31, Floor 610, the last four digits of the phone number are 6789."
Ren Jin glanced at the delivery slip, and it really was true.
Turning around, she asked Gu Yueji helplessly, "What do you want now?"
Gu Yueji pointed at the convenience store, glared at the deliveryman, and said, "I want him to go to the convenience store and pay the 5 yuan for my package."
The deliveryman spat and said, "I'm not giving it to you! I'd rather not deliver anything today and waste my time here with you."
"Okay, I'll call the police now, and then I'll file a complaint against you."
"Go ahead and report it. You can take my life, but I have no money."
"I don't want your life, I just want you to pay this storage fee."
As the two continued arguing, a yellow figure walked into the convenience store, followed by a loud announcement: "WeChat payment received: 5 yuan."
Gu Yueji was taken aback, and then saw Ren Jin carrying her suitcase as he walked out of the convenience store.
With a thud, he threw the box at her feet, placing the takeout directly on top of it. "Your package and takeout are here. Take them, I have other deliveries to make, I don't have time to waste here with you."
"Hey..." Gu Yueji reached out and tried to grab the hem of his clothes again.
Ren Jin suddenly turned around, avoiding her hand, "Someone paid for it, and you received the package. What are you still arguing about?"
Gu Yueji saw the impatience in Ren Jin's eyes and her words of explanation were cut off.
It wasn't that she couldn't afford the 5 yuan; she just wanted the deliveryman to learn a lesson and not leave her packages at the convenience store without calling again. But in Ren Jin's eyes, she was a stingy, calculating, and unreasonable woman.
Since they were strangers, I suddenly felt there was nothing to explain.
Gu Yueji didn't even say thank you, picked up the box and turned to leave.
