The New Year holiday ended with the last firecrackers of the Lantern Festival. As soon as the factory reopened, Gu Yueji couldn't wait to take her couple's sketches to the factory's fashion designer to create designs.
From revising the design drawings, selecting fabrics, adjusting the pattern, to finally producing the sample garment, Gu Yueji stayed in the factory the whole time, without going home for a single day.
When are you coming home?
That evening, Gu Yueji was putting on a face mask in Xiao Yao's rented room and video chatting with Ren Jin.
Looking at his gloomy face, Gu Yueji comforted him, "If there are no problems with the sample garments tomorrow, I will go home the day after tomorrow."
But Ren Jin was clearly dissatisfied. "If there's no problem tomorrow, why not come back tomorrow?"
It's 9:30 p.m. Usually at this time, he would be holding her on the sofa watching TV, but now he can only watch a woman on the screen with her face covered in green mud, only her eyes showing.
"I don't know when the clothes will be finished tomorrow. Also, Jia Hui and Xiao Hui will need to make some alterations after they try them on so they can wear them during their live stream. So I might be busy until very late tomorrow and won't be able to go home."
After Gu Yueji finished speaking, she realized that her tone sounded like she was coaxing a child. She stared at his stern face, but her pursed lips looked a bit like a child's pout because of the force she was using, which was inexplicably cute and funny.
Unable to hold back, I burst out laughing.
Ren Jin frowned as he stared at her smiling face.
He was sullen at home, but she was laughing so happily. "Why are you happier now that you haven't been home for so long? Gu Yueji, tell me the truth, are you tired of me?"
She didn't know how he came up with this idea. Seeing his childish yet nervous expression, Gu Yueji couldn't help but tease him, "Yeah, it's good to be apart for a while."
Ren Jin narrowed his eyes, as if he could see through her thoughts, "Isn't it just that you find it tiring because I want you every night? Believe me or not, I'll drive over to you right now and deliver sex to you from a thousand miles away?"
Before he could even turn off the speakerphone, Gu Yueji frantically covered her phone, exclaiming, "Hey! Xiao Yao is right next to me!"
Looking up at Xiao Yao, who was lying on the other end of the sofa, I could see that she had obviously heard me and was laughing with a trembling chest.
Ren Jin disagreed, saying, "It's not like she hasn't had boyfriends before. We're a legally married couple, and we can communicate normally."
Xiao Yao didn't bother to hide her shyness and shouted into the phone, "Brother Jin, when are you coming? Tell me in advance and I'll go to the hotel on my own."
Even though Ren Jin couldn't see anyone, he replied, "It's okay, I'll book the hotel first when I get there, it won't bother you."
"How did you two end up chatting?!" Gu Yueji laughed in exasperation. Seeing Ren Jin's somewhat serious expression, she was afraid he might actually come. "I'll try to go back tomorrow, okay? Please don't come!"
Ren Jin stared at her in silence for a moment, as if considering whether her words were credible, and finally said reluctantly, "Alright, but remember, once I get there to arrest them, you'll be up all night."
Gu Yueji hung up on him in annoyance, thinking to herself that this guy was shameless to the extreme.
"With you two at this rate, do you have to give Jin-ge a supplement every day?" Xiao Yao laughed, covering her face mask as if afraid it would fall off.
Gu Yueji felt her face burning even with a face mask on. "Don't listen to his nonsense!"
Although they do it more than once or twice a week, it's not as frequent as it is every day.
"What's there to be ashamed of? It's a normal and wonderful thing for couples to have a harmonious sex life."
Xiao Yao isn't someone who's afraid to talk about sex; physiological needs are basic human instincts, and there's nothing shameful about them.
“You haven’t been home for over a week, it’s normal for Jin to miss you.” She paused, then emphasized, “whether it’s psychological or physical.”
Gu Yueji sat up, intending to throw a cushion at her, but Xiao Yao's words suddenly reminded her of something.
"What's the date today?" Gu Yueji asked.
Xiao Yao glanced at the date on her phone. "The 8th, what's wrong?"
Gu Yueji opened the calendar in a daze to check.
It really is the 8th. She's been focused on producing couple's items all week, and only now has she remembered that her period is almost a week late.
An uncontrollable surge of excitement and joy welled up inside her. Her period was usually quite regular, and both she and Ren Jin had been working so hard during their trip.
So, is their baby coming?
Seeing Gu Yueji's silent demeanor, as if she were about to cry, Xiao Yao immediately sat down beside her and asked, "What's wrong with you?"
Gu Yueji came to her senses and said, her voice slightly choked, "I might be pregnant."
Xiao Yao was stunned. "Really?!"
Gu Yueji touched her stomach. "I don't know, but my period is a week late."
Remembering that she had thought she was pregnant before, Xiao Yao asked with some experience, "Do you want me to buy you a pregnancy test? I know which brand is better."
Gu Yueji thought for a moment, "Forget it, I'll go buy it tomorrow. It's not safe for you to go out so late now, and I'm afraid I won't be able to sleep if I get the test results at this time."
Gu Yueji was extremely careful all night. She stood up and sat down quietly. She was afraid of slipping on the water on the floor when she went to the toilet. She was also afraid of pressing on her stomach when she lay on her side in bed. Several times she wanted to call Ren Jin, but she put the phone down again after picking it up.
First, it's not confirmed yet. If the final test result is negative, wouldn't that just disappoint him? Second, if he finds out, he'll definitely drive over to find her immediately, and driving on the highway this late at night is too dangerous.
I tossed and turned all night alone.
The next day, when Xiao Yao got up, she saw that Gu Yueji had already cooked breakfast and was sitting at the table eating.
