Chapter 84 Brother-in-law

When Xiao Yao received Zhong Xuyang's WeChat message, she was enjoying drinks with Dong Ruicheng.

"Drink less alcohol. I need to take care of my health too. Send me a WeChat message when the party is over, and I'll come pick you up."

Her gaze lingered on those words, her hand holding the wine glass paused for a moment, and then she put it down.

She thought he was too angry to talk to her anymore.

During this time, she would deliberately say all sorts of things to anger him, trying to drive him away. He would often get angry at her, but he would turn around and come back to her on his own initiative.

During the year or so they were together, they almost never argued, except because of Lin Wenwen. Even if they did argue, they would automatically make up the next day.

It seems that there are no other problems between them except for Lin Wenwen, but it also seems like an unsolvable knot.

She couldn't pretend not to care, and he couldn't go back to the way things were before they happened.

She might be able to be indifferent to other people and things, but not to Zhong Xuyang, especially not to Zhong Xuyang who was entangled with Lin Wenwen. She either had to love him completely and trust him, or give up on him completely and break up with him.

"What are you daydreaming about? Are you raising fish?" Dong Ruicheng tapped her wine glass.

Xiao Yao looked away. "I've already had several drinks. Are you really going to get me drunk?"

"You're far from being drunk," Dong Ruicheng said, seeing Xiao Yao put down her glass after looking at her phone. "What's wrong? Your boyfriend won't let you drink?"

Xiao Yao remained silent.

Dong Ruicheng was stunned. "When did you become so obedient to your boyfriend? You used to tell me that you were naturally unruly and loved freedom, and you completely ignored me."

Xiao Yao bluntly stated, "You are different from him."

If she and Zhong Xuyang really broke up, she wouldn't even see Zhong Xuyang, let alone sit and drink and joke with Dong Ruicheng like she is now.

Dong Ruicheng raised an eyebrow. "Oh, so you're treating me differently? I'm getting jealous."

Xiao Yao smiled and said, "Go away, stop messing around."

Thinking about her relationship with Dong Ruicheng, from the time they got together to the time they broke up, there were no arguments, no heartache, no worries, but there was no attraction either. Why is it different for her and Zhong Xuyang? Is it true that every real relationship is bound to have unhappiness?

Xiao Yao rested her chin on her hand and asked Dong Ruicheng, "Let me ask you a question, how many ex-girlfriends have you had?"

"Does it include you?"

Xiao Yao rolled her eyes at him. "I'm asking you very seriously."

Dong Ruicheng then answered seriously, "Including the four of you."

Xiao Yao continued, "Is there one that left a particularly deep impression?"

"My ex-girlfriend after graduation, we dated for almost 3 years and our relationship was great, but her family didn't want her to stay here."

Xiao Yao noticed that Dong Ruicheng's tone was no longer as relaxed and cheerful as before. "You haven't forgotten her yet?"

Dong Ruicheng looked at the wine in his glass and said, "So what if I haven't forgotten? She already has a boyfriend."

Xiao Yao originally wanted to imitate him and talk about how he treated his ex-girlfriend differently, but seeing his dejected look, she patted him on the shoulder to comfort him.

"Don't blame me for asking, but what are you men like if you haven't forgotten your exes?"

Dong Ruicheng took a sip of wine and recited things one by one, "Keep her contact information, secretly follow her latest updates, want to call her, answer her immediately when she calls, oh, and one more thing, have desire for her."

Xiao Yao thought to herself, "It really is a man," and then asked,

"How can I forget my ex?"

"Find another one, preferably someone you'll sleep with right away, the one you'll forget about the fastest," Dong Ruicheng said, feigning flippancy.

Xiao Yao couldn't help but think of how things started between her and Zhong Xuyang. "Is this all there is to it?"

Dong Ruicheng shook his head, "No."

Xiao Yao was taken aback. "Are you kidding me?!"

Dong Ruicheng glanced at her speechlessly, "The human brain isn't a computer hard drive that can be formatted with one click. How can you forget what happened? Don't you remember the things we did together? What does that prove?"

Xiao Yao was stunned, suddenly feeling as if she had been dazzled by Dong Ruicheng's wisdom.

"Everyone has a past. Let the past be the past and look forward."

Dong Ruicheng was speaking to Xiao Yao, but it also seemed like he was speaking to himself.

Xiao Yao fell into deep thought.

I opened my phone again and looked at Zhong Xuyang at the top of my WeChat list.

Perhaps she could have a proper talk with Zhong Xuyang instead of constantly rejecting him and making him angry.

She hesitated for a moment before replying to his comment about coming to pick her up.

Where are you now?

Just a few seconds later, the other end replied, "Take a walk around the area."

He stopped pretending and said he was here on business, but his work was all in Yun City, so what business could he possibly have here?

"You should go back first. I've booked a hotel here tonight."

He paused for a little longer this time. "Aren't you scared staying in a hotel alone? How about I stay here with you tonight? Tell me which hotel and room number you booked, and I'll book the room next to yours. I don't know how to do anything."

Since she broke up with him, he hasn't done anything inappropriate with her.

It's not a good idea for him to keep following her like this. Maybe tonight she can have an open and honest talk with him.

Just as she was about to tell Zhong Xuyang the room number, Dong Ruicheng suddenly asked her, "Xiao Yao, is your current boyfriend your 'white moonlight'?"

Xiao Yao stared at him blankly.

Dong Ruicheng immediately understood, "I knew I wasn't wrong."

When they broke up, Xiao Yao said she had a white moonlight in her heart. He knew it was someone from their school, but he didn't know who it was.

"Dong Ruicheng, what are you and Xiao Yao talking about? I've seen you two talking all night. You two haven't rekindled your old flame, have you?" a classmate called out from the other end of the table.

Xiao Yao and Dong Ruicheng looked up at the same time.

They were in the same class, so their classmates all knew about their time together.

They were both people who could joke around, so Xiao Yao and Dong Ruicheng just laughed it off.

Just as Xiao Yao was about to explain, Su Ziran spoke up first, "Don't joke around, Xiao Yao has a boyfriend."

Xiao Yao was taken aback.

Apart from Gu Yueji, she hadn't told any of her university classmates about her relationship with Zhong Xuyang, and it was impossible for Gu Yueji to have told Su Ziran either.

"How did you know I have a boyfriend?" Xiao Yao asked, staring at Su Ziran.

Su Ziran sneered, "What? You can't tell everyone you have a boyfriend? Are you keeping Zhong Xuyang as a backup plan?"

Hearing her mention Zhong Xuyang, Xiao Yao remembered that he had said in the car that he knew Su Ziran. But didn't Zhong Xuyang say that he wasn't familiar with Su Ziran? She didn't think that Zhong Xuyang would talk about them to someone he wasn't familiar with.

How did you and Zhong Xuyang meet?

Su Ziran's eyes widened. "Didn't your brother-in-law tell you?"

Xiao Yao was stunned, "Brother-in-law?"

Su Ziran's face immediately lit up with a smug smile. "Oh, sorry, I didn't call you sister. I've just been calling Zhong Xuyang brother-in-law for so many years, and I can't change it just now."

"Who is your sister?" Xiao Yao had already guessed as soon as she asked.

Su Ziran also spoke up to confirm at the same time.

"Lin Wenwen is my cousin."
