Chapter 21
As the sun set, Lu Ling and Shen Wangyou didn't stay outside for long, as they would soon arrive at Aunt Zhao's house.
Before going back, Shen Wangyou did not leave immediately, but ran to the side and held the hand of the little girl named Zhenzhen.
The big one and the small one walked towards him in the moonlight. Lu Ling stared at Shen Wangyou and asked puzzledly: "What's wrong?"
Shen Wangyou raised the hand holding the little girl and smiled, “This is Aunt Zhao’s daughter. It’s already dark, and I’m afraid she’ll be scared, so I asked her to go back with us.”
Hearing this, Lu Ling smiled, squatted down, and said, "Your name is Zhenzhen?"
The little girl nodded.
Lu Ling gently stroked the little girl's head, stood up, took her other hand, lowered his eyes and said, "Let's go back together."
The moonlight stretched the shadows of the three people extremely long. The small figures sometimes looked to the left, sometimes looked to the right. No matter which side they looked, they could see the adults looking down and talking and smiling.
After returning to Aunt Zhao's house, Zhenzhen ran back to her mother, and Lu Ling and Shen Wangyou also returned to their rooms.
The candle was lit, and the room was instantly illuminated. Lu Ling walked to the bed and took down Shen Wangyou’s bed.
Shen Wangyou had stood behind him without him knowing when, and Lu Ling bumped into Shen Wangyou as soon as he turned around.
"What are you going to do?"
“Madam, the ground is too hard and it’s uncomfortable to sleep on.” Shen Wangyou said as he raised his hand and rubbed his waist.
Of course Lu Ling knew what Shen Wangyou meant, but being alone in the same room with a single man and a single woman was already the limit. If they were to lie on the same bed...
Lu Ling sighed in his heart and finally put the quilt in his hand back.
Seeing this, Shen Wangyou grinned, and all the cold temperament on his body disappeared.
"A Ling, are you agreeing?"
Lu Ling nodded, distanced himself from Shen Wangyou, and warned him, "Use the middle as your boundary. Don't come close to me when you sleep at night. If you do, I'll tie you up with a rope tomorrow."
When Shen Wangyou saw Lu Ling nod, he didn't care about anything else and quickly spread out his bedding and prepared to go to sleep.
Early the next morning, Lu Ling woke up because of shortness of breath.
A pair of large hands tightly gripped him, and Lu Ling felt unable to move his entire body.
He originally wanted to continue sleeping for a while, but he felt uncomfortable being clung to and couldn't get rid of it. Lu Ling stared at the thatch on top of the house for a long time and finally came up with a solution.
"Hiss." Shen Wangyou only felt a pain in his feet.
When I opened my eyes, I saw Lu Ling's face very close to me.
Chen Wangyou was sleepy and had a hazy look in his eyes. He smiled and said, "A Ling, why are you so close to me? So you like sleeping with me too."
As he spoke, Shen Wangyou clamped his hands tighter.
Seeing that the man was still talking in his sleep, Lu Ling kicked him again.
This time the force was stronger than last time, and Shen Wangyou woke up immediately.
Shen Wangyou loosened his grip, and Lu Ling immediately felt smoother.
Shaking his hands, Lu Ling sat up and asked Shen Wangyou, “What did I say last night?”
"What did you say?" Shen Wangyou rubbed his red and swollen legs.
Lu Ling was not annoyed when he heard Chen Wangyou's answer. He smiled and said, "I don't know now, but I'll know tonight."
After saying that, Lu Ling walked out, leaving Shen Wangyou confused on the bed.
Lu Ling woke up early today and had nothing to do, so he found a branch and started waving it in the yard.
The wind blew, blowing the peach blossoms off the tree, swirling around, and finally landing on Lu Ling's shoulder. Lu Ling turned around, and the peach blossoms on his shoulder fell. Lu Ling swung the branch in his hand, spinning it a few times, and the peach blossoms spun a few times with the movement, finally falling to the ground.
"Pa, pa, pa." Lu Ling was attracted by the applause from upstairs.
“A Ling’s martial arts are still this good.” Shen Wangyou said and walked downstairs.
Seeing that it was Shen Wangyou, Lu Ling ignored him and continued practicing.
Suddenly, Shen Wangyou walked in front of Lu Ling. Lu Ling did not stop, but waved the branch and approached Shen Wangyou step by step. Shen Wangyou retreated all the way and finally sat down on the ground.
Lu Ling put away the branch, lowered his eyes and asked, "What's the matter?"
Shen Wangyou stood up, patted the dust off his clothes, then put his hands behind his back and said, "Aunt Zhao has prepared breakfast and asked us to go eat."
Lu Ling wanted to say, "You were just upstairs, how do you know that breakfast is ready?"
But after thinking about it, when she came down, she seemed to see that the place where Shen Wangyou had just stood could see the back. Shen Wangyou must have said this because she saw that Aunt Zhao had already prepared breakfast.
Lu Ling threw the branch in his hand aside, without even looking at Shen Wangyou, and walked to the back of the house alone.
"A Ling, A Ling! Wait for me!" Lu Ling walked away, and Shen Wangyou ran to catch up.
"Come on, today is a good day, and we are all here." Aunt Zhao saw the two people coming and invited them to sit down.
Lu Ling and Shen Wangyou were eating and living at someone else's house, so they felt embarrassed to ask Aunt Zhao to entertain them, so they went in to help Aunt Zhao serve the food.
When they sat down to eat, Lu Ling found that there were only Aunt Zhao, Zhenzhen and Shen Wangyou.
After dinner, Lu Ling helped Aunt Zhao pack up, while Chen Wangyou took Zhenzhen out to play.
"Aunt Zhao, are Zhenzhen and the others just going to play like this? They're not going to school?"
Daliang attaches great importance to literature, and almost every village has a school. If there is no teacher in the village, the court will send people there.
Rich families in the capital would invite teachers to their homes to teach their children personally. Lu Xing searched everywhere for scholars before finally finding Lu Ling's teacher.
Aunt Zhao shook off the water droplets on her hands and wiped them dry with her pants.
"There used to be a school, but something happened later and there are no other scholars in the village. We originally wanted to invite a scholar from outside, but we came here to escape the disaster and don't want to be disturbed. If they knew, wouldn't all this be in vain?"
Aunt Zhao sighed and continued, "So the children in the village just play in the village and don't understand anything from books."
Lu Ling actually wanted to ask why outsiders were not allowed in, and why they agreed to bring Shen Wangyou back? But in the end, Lu Ling did not ask.
Lu Ling thought for a moment and said, "I have someone who can recommend me as my teacher."
Aunt Zhao hesitated for a moment, then understood, "You mean, Master Shen?"
*
"What? Let me be a teacher?" After hearing Lu Ling's words, Shen Wangyou lost his grip on the teacup in his hand and some tea spilled out.
"A Ling, why don't you go? You've been studying for much longer than I have." Shen Wangyou said jokingly.
Lu Ling walked around a few times, then said, "I'll go too, but I'll teach you martial arts, how about that?"
Shen Wangyou put down the tea in his hand, hesitated for a moment, and said with a smile: "That's very good."
"By the way, did something happen to Aunt Zhao's husband?" Lu Ling asked the doubts in his heart.
Shen Wangyou frowned, picked up the teacup and took a sip, and then said: "Aunt Zhao's husband is actually the teacher of this village."
Aunt Zhao’s real name is Ning Hua. She fled to Leping Village with her husband Zhao Huairen. Zhao Huairen was knowledgeable and a guide, so everyone in the village respected him very much.
Not only was he made the village chief, he was also made a teacher. However, a fire killed him.
Zhao Huairen was teaching in the school that day when a sudden gust of wind blew and a fire started to spread. By the time the students in the school discovered it, the fire had already spread to a large scale.
The school was full of young children. Those who could run out had already run out, and some fainted on the ground. Zhao Huairen carried them out one by one, and finally collapsed in the fire exhausted.
When the fire was extinguished, all Ning Hua saw were charred corpses.
At that time, Ning Hua was just a woman who had just turned 27, and Zhao Zhenzhen was only three years old.
Overnight, Ning Hua grew a lot of white hair and her face looked haggard. Originally, everyone in the village called her Ning Hua, but later, when she met someone younger than her, she asked them to call her Aunt Zhao.
"The school was also burned down by the fire. If we want the children to go to school, we need to rebuild it." Shen Wangyou put down the tea in his hand and looked at Lu Ling.
Lu Ling opened his mouth blankly, looking at Shen Wangyou in disbelief. When he didn't see Zhenzhen's father at dinner just now, Lu Ling had a bad feeling, but he never thought it would be like this.
"Zhao Huairen is a good teacher and a good village chief." Lu Ling finally commented.
Aunt Zhao was only 32 years old, but when Lu Ling first saw her, he thought she was already 50. Lu Ling couldn't imagine how sad she was.
Lu Ling sat next to Shen Wangyou, thinking about building a school.
A pair of big hands held his hands, and Lu Ling turned his head to look at Shen Wangyou. His brows were slightly wrinkled, and he raised his hand to stroke his hair. The hair that had fallen out was tucked behind his ears.
He stared at Lu Ling, his voice light and refreshing like a spring breeze, "Don't worry, I'll find a way."
Lu Ling looked at Shen Wangyou, and he had an illusion in his heart, as if he had returned to the days when he was his study companion.
Lu Ling was in a trance, and it took him a while to react. He said lightly: "Okay."
At dinner, Aunt Zhao cooked many dishes, saying that Lu Ling had not taken good care of her since he came for so long, so she asked Lu Ling to forgive her for the simple dishes she cooked this morning.
When Lu Ling heard this, he felt embarrassed.
You are the one who eats and lives at Zhao's house, and you still ask them to apologize. It is really wrong.
"Auntie, you should forgive me." Lu Ling glanced at Shen Wangyou, "Wangyou and I have been bothering you for a long time. I'm afraid we have caused you trouble."
"No, no, we are very happy that you can come. We are an orphan and a widow, and our home was originally lonely. Now your arrival makes our home lively."
Lu Ling picked up a piece of fish and put it in his mouth, then said with a smile: "Then we won't be polite. Wangyou and I will have to bother you more during this period."
"Okay, okay, come on, try the wine I brewed myself."
After finishing his drink, Lu Ling asked, "Auntie, we want to ask about the construction of the school."
Aunt Zhao opened her eyes slightly wide, her face pale and filled with fear. After a long moment, she finally spoke, "You want to rebuild the school?"
When Lu Ling asked her about it today, she thought she just wanted to know more, but she never imagined that he wanted to build a school.
Shen Wangyou also spoke at this time, saying: "We want to build a school, so we would like to take this opportunity tonight to ask what we need to do."
Aunt Zhao's eyes were empty as she stirred the rice in her bowl. "Okay, okay, I'll go ask the villagers tomorrow."
