Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Lu Ling walked forward, and Shen Wangyou chased after him, as if he was afraid that he would run away.

Lu Ling walked too fast and accidentally bumped into someone. Lu Ling covered his shoulder, bent over and apologized, "I'm sorry."

The face of the woman who was hit was covered by a veil. The lights were dim and Lu Ling could only see her eyes. The woman just shook her head and walked away.

Lu Ling stood there in a daze. She seemed to have seen those eyes somewhere before.

"A Ling, A Ling, are you okay?" Shen Wangyou also rushed over at this time and asked when he saw Lu Ling covering his shoulder.

Lu Ling came back to his senses and shook his head, "It's okay."

Maybe I saw it wrong.

"What's wrong? What did you see?" Shen Wangyou asked Lu Ling.

"It's okay, it's just that the guy just now looked a lot like an old friend."

"Old friend?"

Shen Wangyou was puzzled, he had met all of Lu Ling’s old friends.

Shen Wangyou looked towards where the woman had just left, but there was no one there.

“Maybe I saw it wrong.” Lu Ling patted Shen Wangyou’s hand, “Let’s go, let’s go back.”

The two of them walked slowly and leisurely, both enjoying their time alone.

"Boss, how much is this painting?"

There were many people coming to the stall today, and Chu Liuyun was busy introducing calligraphy and paintings to other customers. He just glanced at the paintings and told the prices, and continued to introduce calligraphy and paintings to the customers around him.

Seeing that Chu Liuyun was busy, the woman did not continue to ask. She just stood there. When the man finished his work and turned around, the woman spoke: "Could you tell me the meaning of this painting?"

"A Ling!" Chu Liuyun shouted excitedly, causing passers-by to turn their heads frequently.

Chu Liuyun walked to Lu Ling and hugged Lu Ling excitedly.

"Why are you here? You...you..." Perhaps because he didn't expect Lu Ling to come at this time, Chu Liuyun had already become incoherent.

Lu Ling's eyes were already red, and his words were nasal: "I wanted to come visit you and uncle earlier, but after returning to Beijing, I had too many things to do, so I didn't..."

Before Lu Ling could finish her words, Chu Liuyun let her go. Lu Ling looked at Chu Liuyun in confusion, only to see that Chu Liuyun had a stern expression, as if to say, "Let's see how you try to argue."

When Lu Ling saw Chu Liuyun's expression, he knew that he was blaming himself for not going to him first when he wanted to overturn his father's case.

Lu Ling was very familiar with his cousin's temperament, so he softened his voice and said, "Cousin, Aling knows he was wrong, and he won't do it again. If anything happens in the future, I will definitely tell you and uncle first." Lu Ling shook Chu Liuyun's hand and said, "Cousin, can you forgive Aling this time?"

Chu Liuyun is only a few years older than Lu Ling. When Lu Ling made Chu Liuyun unhappy when they were young, she would say this.

Lu Ling was sure that Chu Liuyun would only respond to soft words and not to harsh ones, and Chu Liuyun was also very pleased and would forgive Lu Ling every time.

The same is true this time.

"Okay, okay, I forgive you." Chu Liuyun's expression was no longer tense. "But you must remember to tell me if there is anything. I will always be your family."

"Okay." Lu Ling nodded, his eyes red again.

There was only one stool here, so Chu Liuyun borrowed a chair from the stall owner next door. Lu Ling sat on the chair, and Chu Liuyun also sat over.

Lu Ling glanced at the calligraphy and paintings around him. Some of the fixed pieces were gently lifted by the wind. "Cousin, how do you feel about selling calligraphy and paintings here now?"

Chu Liuyun nodded and forced a smile: "Not bad, it can provide enough food and clothing for the whole family."

When Lu Ling heard this, he knew that Chu Liuyun was showing off. Although the Chu family was implicated, they originally had some assets and would not have been living in such a state.

Moreover, when Lu Ling came, he saw that Chu Liuyun was only wearing thin clothes. The weather was not warm yet, so he would still feel cold even if he wore so much.

Lu Ling did not expose him. After they chatted for a few words, Lu Ling left. When leaving, Lu Ling asked Chu Liuyun for his address and said that he would visit his uncle tomorrow.

The next day, Lu Ling bought some things and went to Chu Liuyun's house.

When Lu Ling reached the door, he froze in place, his steps heavy and it was difficult for him to take a step forward.

The low gate wall, the dilapidated road, the cold wind, Lu Ling walked forward step by step, his heart sinking to the bottom.

Chu Liuyun knocked lightly on the wooden door and opened it from the inside. Seeing Lu Ling, he excitedly shouted inside: "Dad, A Ling is here."

"Come on, come in quickly." Chu Liuyun took the things from Lu Ling's hand to relieve her of some of the burden.

"What do you want to bring with you? I need to buy a lot of things for the new house. Do you have enough money?" Chu Liuyun said to himself.

Lu Ling looked at the surrounding environment and felt a pang of pain in her heart. She could feel the dilapidated state of the place when she was outside just now. At that time, she was still comforting herself that it was only like this outside and it should be better inside. But now it seems that it is not much better here. Fortunately, her uncle and Chu Liuyun cleaned the house very well, so it was not like the outside.

"I'm asking you, do you have enough money? If not, I'll give it to you."

Lu Ling finally came back to his senses and shook his head, saying, "Enough, that's enough."

"A Ling is here." Chu Fan walked out.

When Lu Ling saw Chu Fan, she couldn't stop crying. She ran to Chu Fan and hugged him: "Uncle, I missed you so much."

"Hey, hey, I'm glad you're back. I'm glad you're back."

Lu Ling distanced herself from Chu Fan and wiped away her tears. "How has Uncle been these past few years? Is he still healthy?"

Chu Fan snorted, "You still care about me."

"Okay, Dad, A Ling finally came back, don't be angry." Chu Liuyun spoke for Lu Ling.

"Dad has been able to eat and drink well in recent years. Although his life is not as good as before, it is much more leisurely. He used to have frequent headaches, but now he doesn't even have headaches. Especially on the day he found out you were still alive, he ate two big bowls of rice!" Chu Liuyun said to Lu Ling.

While listening, Lu Ling glanced at Chu Fan, only to see Chu Fan humph and go back to the house.

Lu Ling couldn't help but smile. His uncle was still so childish, even worse than himself.

Chu Liuyun also smiled, but didn't dare laugh out loud, for fear that his father would scold him.

Lu Ling's aunt passed away very early, and Chu Liuyun never got married, so there were only Chu Fan and Chu Liuyun in the family.

At dinner, Chu Liuyun prepared a large table of dishes. Lu Ling tried some of them and was surprised to find that her cousin had such good cooking skills after not seeing him for a few years.

"Cousin, who did you learn this from? You're doing so well."

Chu Fan picked up the chopsticks and picked up a piece of meat for Lu Ling: "He didn't make this himself, it must have been made by the girl next door!"

Lu Ling stared at Chu Liuyun with wide eyes. From childhood to adulthood, she seemed to have never heard of her cousin being close to any woman. So who was the woman her uncle just mentioned...

"Cousin, will I soon have a cousin-in-law?" Lu Ling didn't even care about the rice in the bowl, and looked at Chu Liuyun with his head tilted.

Unexpectedly, as soon as these words came out, Chu Liuyun coughed, and then couldn't stop coughing.

"Okay, okay, don't talk about him anymore, just eat quickly." Chu Fan picked up some more dishes for Lu Ling.

"Oh." Lu Ling lowered his head and started eating obediently.

"By the way, cousin, I want to ask you, how is selling calligraphy and paintings? Is business good?" Lu Ling suddenly remembered that he had something else to ask.

"It's enough to have enough food and clothes," Chu Liuyun looked up, "What? Aren't you going to the military camp? Why are you asking about selling calligraphy and paintings?" He asked more than once.

Lu Ling smacked his lips and said awkwardly, "Chen Wangyou...he wants to sell calligraphy and paintings."

"What? He went to sell calligraphy and paintings!" Chu Liuyun threw the chopsticks in his hand on the table, and he almost stood up. If Chu Fan hadn't coughed, Chu Liuyun would not have stood up.

"Does he know his own abilities? His handwriting isn't even as good as a three-year-old's, and he still dares to sell calligraphy and paintings!"

Lu Ling: "I talked to him about it, but he said his handwriting is not good so he can just sell paintings. I just don't want him to be idle."

Chu Fan nodded, put down his chopsticks, and seemed to be thinking about something.

“People can’t do nothing. It’s right to do something. But A Ling, didn’t Shen Wangyou plunder the Lu family back then? Why is it now…” Chu Fan said earnestly.

Lu Ling shook his head and said, "That's not the case. He had a very difficult time back then. He was ordered by His Majesty to go. When Eunuch Yuan came, he didn't know why he was called. Besides, after all that has happened, I trust him."

"You are always very accurate in judging people. Since you trust him, we will not ask any more questions." Chu Fan said.

"Well, if he dares to bully me, I will never forgive him, uncle, cousin," Lu Ling looked at the only two close relatives around him, "I will be fine."

"If he wants to sell calligraphy and paintings, that's fine. Ask him to come with me, and we'll split the profits in half," said Chu Liuyun.

"Okay, I'll go back and talk to him."

"Invite him over for dinner next time." Chu Fan said before Lu Ling left.

Lu Ling nodded repeatedly and said yes.

After returning home, Shen Wangyou, who hadn't seen Lu Ling for a day, hurried to Lu Ling's room: "A Ling, where did you go today? Why did you go for so long? I asked Jiang Yun, but he said he didn't know. I was worried for a long time."

Seeing how worried he was, Lu Ling couldn't help but laugh out loud.

"I went to see my uncle today and had dinner with them."

"Oh, then you should tell me next time." Shen Wangyou said stubbornly like a child.

"good."

Lu Ling stroked Shen Wangyou's hair carefully, his eyes full of tenderness: "Wangyou, do you still want to sell calligraphy and paintings? Even if your calligraphy is not good."

Shen Wangyou was stunned for a moment, then said, "Sell it."

"I met my cousin today. He's also selling calligraphy and paintings. I asked him about it, and he said it's okay... If you want, you can join him. You don't have to find a stall. He said the profits will be split in half."

Lu Ling stepped back and sat down inside.

"But I don't think this is a good idea. You're four and he's six, that's not bad either. I don't know what you think."

Shen Wangyou walked over and hugged Lu Ling. Lu Ling's head rested on Shen Wangyou's waist and abdomen, feeling his breath.

"Okay, I'll go. It doesn't matter how you divide it, as long as my cousin doesn't dislike me."

Shen Wangyou felt very upset. He hadn't seen Lu Ling today and had been feeling uneasy. He didn't feel relieved until he saw him come back.

I thought something happened to her and that she didn't want me anymore, but I never expected that she was there to help me solve the problem.

Shen Wangyou stroked Lu Ling's hair and asked, "How are they? Did they give you any trouble?"

Lu Ling closed her eyes, and the breath of Shen Wangyou made her feel at ease: “No.”
