Chapter 19: Falcon, Jewelry, Wounds...

After the noodles are pulled, boil them directly in water and cook until they are 60% cooked. Remove from the water and set aside.

Heat oil in a wok and sauté peeled garlic until fragrant. Once the garlic aroma is released, quickly add water to a boil and season. Stir the broth into the noodles. Fry three eggs and blanch some greens in boiling water and place them on top of the noodles.

Three bowls of steaming noodles were placed on a wooden block beside the stove. The aroma instantly filled the air, drawing even Ye Xiaohu, who was standing outside, in. He crouched beside the stove, his eyes fixed on the noodles before him. The snow-white noodles were soaked in the brownish-yellow broth, a golden, crispy poached egg lay beside them, and tender green vegetables were evenly spread on the surface. His mouth watered at the sight, and he stamped his feet and shouted, "Mom, chopsticks, chopsticks!"

Su was amused by him and asked, "Can you use chopsticks?"

Ye Xiaohu was so anxious that he wanted to grab it, but Su Shi grabbed him and reluctantly stuffed the chopsticks into his hand. He had small hands, so the chopsticks were too low to hold. He opened his mouth and bit into the fried egg on the noodles. The crispy, tender and sweet taste exploded on his tongue. As he ate, he couldn't help but shouting, "Mom, it's delicious."

Su patted his head and said, "Eat slowly. No one will snatch it from you."

She sat down, holding her chopsticks with the decorum expected of a lady, and picked up a mouthful of noodles. The broth-soaked noodles were chewy and smooth, fresh and delicious, and paired with the crispy vegetables, it was truly a delicacy. She couldn't help but slurp them up, and the hot noodles warmed her stomach.

Su couldn't help but praise her, "Ah Nuan, you made this noodle really well, even better than the chef in the mansion."

Ye Nuan was also very happy to see others enjoying the food she made.

She sat down next to Su and began to eat, her bowl in hand. Noodles were meant to be eaten in big, full mouthfuls. For a moment, the only sounds in the kitchen were the slurping of noodles, followed by the gurgling of soup. The noodles and soup were completely devoured, and the three of them rubbed their stomachs in satisfaction.

They were content with their meal, but the Feng family next door was having a hard time. The aroma of noodles mixed with the unique aroma of eggs wafted in waves. Feng Dazhu and his mother drank their brown rice porridge without eating, and they wanted to climb over the wall to take a look at the Ye family.

Li drank her rice porridge while looking out. Feng Dazhu looked at her with a sad face and said in a dull and sad voice, "Mother, it's my son who is useless."

"Hun, how can you be useless? You can earn rice and salt, and carry water and firewood. You are a man, and you can't cook the noodles even if you are given them. You still have to get a wife. When you go to fetch water tomorrow, remember to bring two buckets, one for the Ye family." The more Li looked at the girl from the Ye family, the more she liked her. She was capable, could cook, manage housework, and take care of people. Such a girl would be hard to find anywhere else.

Feng Dazhu thought about Jinbao's actions during the day, and his thoughts became heavy again. It seemed that many people liked Miss Ye. If Jinbao knew the scar on Miss Ye's face, he probably wouldn't like her anymore.

Ye Nuan was about to clean up the dishes, but Su pushed her out and asked her to play with her brother while she boiled water and washed the dishes.

"Mom, are you okay?" Ye Nuan walked to the door and turned back to ask worriedly.

Su glared at her and said, "Why not? My daughter has learned to cook and farm. I can't let you wash the dishes and clothes." Everyone has only two hands, so of course you should help with the housework if you can.

It was already dark, and Ye Nuan was walking back and forth with her brother on the path in the yard to digest their food. As they were walking, they started chasing each other. Ye Xiaohu was chasing them, laughing. Ye Nuan was out of breath, and finally her stomach hurt so much that she waved her hand and said she would not continue.

She squatted beside the vegetable patch, the warm white moonlight pouring down, enveloping her. Ye Xiaohu leaned on her back, combing her hair with his little hands, rubbing his little face against hers, giggling.

"Sister, your hair is so warm and you smell so good."

Ye Nuan turned around and hugged him, pinching his nose and said with a smile: "Xiao Hu is also fragrant and very well-behaved. Sister likes Xiao Hu the most."

After a while of playing around, the two of them both felt thirsty when they returned to their room to rest. While her mother was making the bed, Ye Nuan went out to get a bowl of spiritual spring water from the space, and the three of them took turns drinking a few sips.

Su smacked her lips and asked in confusion, "This is the water in the water tank, why has it become sweet?"

"No way, everything I eat today is sweet."

Her words made Su laugh, and she poked her forehead and laughed.

Now with a new quilt, Ye Nuan slept in a separate bed, while Ye Xiaohu continued to sleep with Su Shi. The quilt was warm and smelled of sunshine, and the three of them fell asleep quickly. However, in the middle of the night, Ye Nuan woke up because she was itchy.

The right side of her face was itchy, deep in her bones. It was quiet in the night, and the itching made her want to reach out and scratch it.

I thought to myself: Could it be that I drank the water in the space directly before going to bed, which is why there is a reaction on my face?

Finally, her body was itchy, and the bed was not firm, so it creaked when she moved, making her afraid to turn over. In the end, the itching was unbearable, so she simply got up carefully, put on some clothes, opened the door and went out.

The moonlight was like water, the night breeze was cool, and she felt a slight relief from the nagging itch she felt as she bathed in the darkness. Since she couldn't sleep anyway, she simply pulled a wooden stool out to sit in the yard. The azure night sky was vast and profound, and the moon was larger and rounder than the sun she had seen in the city, its clear light making the scattered stars flicker.

She tilted her head back, took a deep breath, and for the first time felt the strange beauty of the wilderness.

As she looked at it, she wondered if she had died in modern times or something, and her farm, big enough for horses, had been given away to someone else. And then there was her three-meter-long custom-made luxury bed, her fully porcelain automatic bathtub, her fruit trees on the farm... her cat and Border Collie.

"Oh..." Ye Nuan couldn't help but sigh. She felt like she was back to the time before liberation after a good night's sleep. Fortunately, she had a spirited mother and an adorable brother, otherwise she would really burst into tears.

Suddenly, a sharp eagle cry was heard from the dark sky.

A hunting falcon flapped its wings and landed in front of her. It was quite large, with a white neck and back, a light brown head, and slightly yellow irises. Its sharp eagle eyes looked Ye Nuan back and forth, and its claws stretched forward tentatively.

Only then did Ye Nuan notice that there was a string of translucent jade beads wrapped around its left paw.

This was a bird of wealth. Was the jade bead on its claws stolen, or did it belong to the owner? She knew that many birds in nature liked shiny jewelry, so why did this bird come to her house?

Ye Nuan remained seated, motionless. The falcon took a few steps forward, then stretched out its claws and shook them at her feet, sending the string of jade beads tumbling onto her shoes. Then, the falcon tilted its head and nudged her wrist, its flattery so obvious that she immediately understood what the bird was up to.

It wants the spiritual spring water.

Ye Nuan was at a loss for words. Animals are always more sensitive than humans, and they were all particularly close to her because of the spiritual spring.

Seeing she didn't move, the falcon rubbed her wrist back and forth, its wings beginning to flutter. Finally, Ye Nuan went to the west room and fetched some water from the spiritual spring for it, and it fluttered over to the side and drank happily. After drinking its fill, it soared into the sky without looking back, not even taking the jade beads.

Is this the water fee?

Ye Nuan picked up the jade beads, her hands gentle and delicate as she strung them. Fearing the bird might find its owner and come looking for them, she simply tucked them away in her arms. She sat for a while longer, until the itchiness on her face had mostly subsided, and then she decided to go back inside. But just as she stood up, the falcon that had flown away earlier returned, its talons laden with jade and precious objects: jade, agate, crystal, and pearls, dozens of glittering strings.

The falcon landed and pushed the jewels to her feet, fluttering them back and forth as if to seek credit.

Ye Nuan: “…” If she had raised this bird, she would probably be so angry that she would die.

This is moving!

"Take it back." Ye Nuan tried to communicate with the falcon, but it was obvious that a bird was just a bird. It didn't understand human language and just fluttered around her.

The spiritual spring cannot be given, otherwise the bird will never stop.

She simply took two eggs from the house and placed them at the falcon's feet. The falcon was stunned for a moment, tilted its head to look at the eggs, and waited for a long time. Finally, it realized that Ye Nuan would not give it water again, so it picked up the eggs and flew away listlessly.

Ye Nuan looked at the dozen or so strings of gemstones at her feet with a worried look on her face. She decided to keep them for now. If someone came looking for them, she would return them. If no one came, she would just let them go. The moonlight was obscured by thick fog, and the world fell into darkness once again. After packing up, she tiptoed back to the house and lay down. Perhaps she was too tired from the day, she actually fell asleep.

It was still dark in the City Lord's Mansion, but the sound of weapons clashing and fighting could be heard from the yard.

With a clang, the halberd broke through the thick fog and landed on the opposite rockery. Gao Zangfeng threw his hand away and said, "City Lord, there's no need to be so harsh. My hand is numb."

"Come again!" Qi Wuze's voice was steady and calm, as if he didn't feel tired at all.

Gao Zangfeng, with a bitter face, pulled down the long halberd from the rockery and rushed forward with a shout. A gust of wind blew in his face. In the darkness, Qi Wuze, listening to the sound, was about to dodge sideways when an eagle's cry passed overhead.

Snap!

Something hit him right in the left shoulder.
