Chapter 11 The monkey looks like his father

Jiang Shuyue forced herself to look up at the child that Aunt Su was holding.

"Why...why does it look like this?"

Jiang Shuyue had never seen a newborn baby before. Looking at the wrinkled little monkey, her delicate eyebrows furrowed into a knot.

She's really pretty; could this monkey look like her dad?!

That doesn't make sense either.

She clearly remembered that glance; that man's phoenix eyes were captivating and mesmerizing.

This swollen, blind little monkey doesn't resemble that fellow at all.

"Moon! You have no experience. This child is very handsome!"

"Look at his eyebrows and eyes, so handsome. And his hands and feet, so long. He'll definitely be tall in the future."

Seeing Aunt Su praising the ugly monkey like a flower, Jiang Shuyue was half-believing and half-doubting.

“But… his skin is so red,” Jiang Shuyue couldn’t help but say.

"Newborn babies are all pink, and they will gradually turn white. Also, since they have just come out of their mother's womb, their bodies contain some moisture, and they will look even more beautiful after a few days."

Qiuju nodded repeatedly as she listened. The young lady was as beautiful as a flower, and the young master must be as lovely as jade.

Aunt Su's tone suddenly changed, and she looked at the child in her arms with heartache, saying, "Poor thing, if his father were still alive, he would be so happy to see you go through all the hardships to give birth to such a lovely son for him."

"Cough cough..."

Qiu Ju almost choked to death on her own saliva.

Qiuju secretly thought to herself, "Miss's story is so convincing, Aunt Su has been moved for almost half a year now."

Jiang Shuyue's lips twitched violently, she blinked with a bitter expression, and a layer of mist welled up in her eyes.

He said weakly, "That's right, that dead man was unlucky."

"Don't be sad. Your auntie was too nosy and shouldn't have brought up your sad story."

Seeing that Jiang Shuyue's eyes were glistening with tears, Aunt Su quickly shut her mouth.

Heaven knows, Jiang Shuyue wasn't just sad about the fake husband she made up; she was actually in pain.

It really hurts; childbirth is never painless.

To avoid gossip, she fabricated a poignant and romantic story for herself.

Her husband went to the frontier after their marriage, and died on the battlefield shortly after.

Her family wanted her to have an abortion and remarry, but she refused, even at the cost of her life. She pawned her dowry and ran away with her maid to give birth to her husband's only child.

Aunt Su's whole family firmly believed in her tragic experience, and even the gossipy women in the village shed tears for her.

"Sister Yue'er, are you alright? Quickly eat the brown sugar and eggs while they're still hot." Su Hui walked in carrying a bowl of brown sugar and eggs.

Su Huai-ren had already boiled the eggs and kept them warm on the stove, waiting for the sound of a baby crying so that Su Hui could bring them over.

"Thank you for your concern, Hui'er. The baby is not very big, so I haven't suffered much."

Although Jiang Shuyue was not an obstetrician in her previous life, she was knowledgeable in nutrition.

In this era where there is nothing to be desired, she was especially afraid of having a difficult childbirth.

She exercises daily and pays attention to a balanced diet to keep her child at a healthy weight.

From the moment the amniotic sac broke until the baby was born, it only took half a day.

The midwife said that compared to many other women, Jiang Shuyue's delivery was relatively smooth.

"Moon, don't move, Auntie will feed you."

Aunt Su placed the child on the other side of Jiang Shuyue and picked up a pillow for Jiang Shuyue to lean against.

Seeing that her mistress's forehead was still covered in sweat, Qiuju picked up a handkerchief and wiped it away.

"Auntie, there's too much, we can't eat it all."

Looking at the bowl full of eggs, Jiang Shuyue estimated that there were at least six or seven.

"You've just given birth, so your belly is empty. Try to eat as much as possible so the baby will have milk to drink," Aunt Su said, scooping up a spoonful of brown sugar water and feeding it to her.

After taking a sip of brown sugar water, Jiang Shuyue felt much better in her throat.

"Sister, eat slowly. Dad is making medicine to help with lactation." Su Hui leaned down and looked at the child with her eyes closed, her eyes full of curiosity and doting.

"Sister Yue'er, what's my little nephew's name? Should he call me auntie or grandma?"

Su Hui wanted to hold the child in her arms, but looking at the kitten-like child, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to hold him properly.

Seeing her reach out her hand and then withdraw it, Aunt Su instructed, "The child needs to sleep, don't disturb him, it's better to name him later."

The local custom is to name a child on their 100th day, wishing them a long and healthy life.

Seeing how much Su Hui adored the child, Jiang Shuyue said gently, "Uncle and Aunt treat me like their own daughter, so Hui'er is my own sister. Of course, Xiao Bao will call you Auntie."

After eating three brown sugar eggs, Jiang Shuyue couldn't eat anymore.

Aunt Su removed the extra pillow and said with concern, "Get some sleep. Su Jin and Su Nan went to catch fish in the stream outside the village. When you wake up, you can have fish soup, and then the baby will have milk to drink."

"Don't sleep, don't sleep, I'll go get the lactation-promoting herbal soup. Uncle Lin said that if you drink his prescription, the baby will have milk to drink within half an hour."

Su Hui was afraid that her baby would go hungry, so she turned around and ran away after saying that.

The Uncle Lin she mentioned was also a man with a tragic fate. No one knew his name; everyone called him Lin the Miracle Hand.

He was also a doctor who had wandered to this place.

Lin Miaoshou is a skilled doctor. He said that he accidentally tasted a herb while collecting herbs in the mountains, which caused his vision to become blurred.

He makes a living by treating patients, and because of his poor eyesight, he can write even with his eyes closed.

Lin Miaoshou has been in the village for several years. Matchmakers have tried to arrange marriages for him, but he refuses no matter what, saying that he is a cripple and does not want to harm others.

After Jiang Shuyue came here, she occasionally saw him at the Su family's house.

Jiang Shuyue felt a warmth in her heart, surprised that he was so thoughtful.

She said to Qiuju, "Go and boil some more red eggs, and deliver them to everyone later."
