Since it was unclaimed, Qiuju kept it.
Su Nan volunteered to take on the task of feeding the sheep.
Su Nan called softly into the room through the curtain, "Sister Yue'er, may I come in and see Sui Sui?"
"You can come in."
Jiang Shuyue likes Su Nan very much; the little guy is polite and knows how to behave appropriately.
Seeing Su Nan gently lift the curtain, Jiang Shuyue smiled and said, "It's the middle of summer, and there's no cool breeze."
"Mother said that Sister Yue'er is weak and cannot be exposed to the wind."
Su Nan walked to the bedside, staring intently at the sleeping child, a smile unconsciously creeping onto her lips.
He said thoughtfully, "Sister Yue'er, Nan Nan wants to be Sui Sui's uncle so that he can take him to the river to catch fish and to the mountains to pick mushrooms. Is that okay?"
“Nan Nan, from now on you can call me elder sister too! A Jin is Sui Sui’s eldest uncle, and Nan Nan is Sui Sui’s second uncle.”
"Sister!"
Su Nan smiled broadly.
"Sui Sui, grow up quickly, your second uncle will teach you to read and write."
In the courtyard, Aunt Su told Qiuju that she didn't need to prepare dinner.
As soon as she finished speaking, Su Hui came over carrying a wooden tray.
On the tray were a bowl of fish soup, a bowl of white rice, and a stir-fried loofah with an egg.
"Sister, Father asked me to ask you if the child's household registration is in the village. If it is, he will go to the village head." Su Hui put down the tray and asked softly.
Su Nan quickly picked up a pillow and placed it behind Jiang Shuyue's head.
Su Hui helped Jiang Shuyue lean against the pillow.
Jiang Shuyue raised her slender fingers and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, smiling faintly: "Sui Sui is still young, so we won't grant her household registration for now."
In Jiang Shuyue's mind, this place was too backward and too far from the county town, so it was not a place to live for a long time.
This place is only suitable for her to stay temporarily.
"Brother, go back and eat first. I'll talk to my older sister for a while."
Su Nan looked up at Jiang Shuyue with reluctance and smiled, "Sister, get some rest. I'll come see you again tomorrow."
Watching Su Nan leave.
Su Hui brought out the fish soup from the tray: "Sister, drink up! Big brother caught a lot of fish in the stream today, enough for you to eat for several days."
Jiang Shuyue took the fish soup. The thick fish soup was as white as milk and had a wonderful aroma.
Take a small sip; the flavor is very fresh.
"Sister, you refuse to register your household here. Are you planning to leave?"
Jiang Shuyue looked up and saw Su Hui looking at her weakly, her eyes filled with reluctance.
During this period, Su Hui and Jiang Shuyue got along like sisters.
Jiang Shuyue didn't know how to make children's clothes, so she asked Qiuju to buy fine cotton cloth from town. All the clothes and diapers were made by Su Hui and Aunt Su.
Life here was rather uneventful. Jiang Shuyue even bought paper and pens, and the two of them wrote and painted together.
Su Hui is thoughtful and intelligent, and Jiang Shuyue doesn't hide it from her.
“Sister Hui’er, a tree dies when transplanted, but a person thrives. This place is beautiful with clear waters and lush mountains, but I have important things to do. I will leave when I am a little older.”
She paused for a moment and then said, "This is my family home, and I will come back."
Su Hui nodded, seemingly understanding but not quite.
...
Time flies, winter goes and spring comes, and in the blink of an eye, it's summer of the following year.
"Sui Sui, come here, take two steps toward your second uncle."
The whole family was busy preparing for Sui Sui's birthday, and Su Nan was teaching Sui Sui to walk in the yard.
Sui Sui's little hand left the stool, and she grinned as she walked towards Sunan.
One step, two steps...
The little guy was clever and quick-witted; when his feet wobbled badly, he would stop walking.
"Sui Sui is good, Sui Sui is the best."
Encouraged by Su Nan, Sui Sui took a few quick steps forward and then rushed into Su Nan's arms.
That year, Su Nan grew much taller, perhaps because he drank goat milk with Sui Sui.
From the time Jiang Shuyue finished her postpartum confinement, Aunt Su made sure that Jiang Shuyue and Qiuju didn't have to cook separately, and the two families were like one big family.
The villagers always thought Jiang Shuyue was a relative of Aunt Su's family, and no one said anything about it.
Today is Sui Sui's birthday. Su Jin killed a chicken and used the matsutake mushrooms he picked yesterday to stew the chicken.
Aunt Su and Qiuju chopped pork filling to make dumplings.
The pork was taken out of Jiang Shuyue's spatial storage.
When she goes to town, she always buys extra meat and puts it in her spatial storage.
Every time Qiuju saw her mistress come up from the well with a bamboo basket, peel off the banana leaves, and take out pork, Qiuju would say that the well in the old house was just as good as the ice cellar in the capital.
In the main room, Jiang Shuyue poured the crushed medicine into a rough bowl.
She called out to Su Nan, who was playing with the baby outside, "Nan Nan, go to the kitchen and get a bowl of chicken. Take the medicine I've prepared to Uncle Lin and tell him to apply it twice a day, morning and evening."
Jiang Shuyue examined Lin Miaoshou's eyes and diagnosed her with mild poisoning and retinal damage. She said that with medication and topical application, it was still possible to cure her.
Su Nan carried Sui Sui into the house and placed him in Jiang Shuyue's arms: "Sister, Sui Sui took a few more steps today. I think he will be walking very steadily in another month or so."
When Su Sui was mentioned, Su Nan's smile stretched from ear to ear.
Watching Su Nan walk towards Lin Miaoshou's house, Jiang Shuyue, holding Sui Sui, looked towards the entrance to the bamboo forest.
Su Huai-ren went to town early this morning. He said that the town's academy needed a tutor, and since he was a Jinshi (a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations), he was more than qualified to be a tutor. He just needed to see if the academy would look down on him as a demoted official, like other academies.
Around noon, Su Huai-ren returned carrying a stack of yellow paper.
Aunt Su wiped her hands on her apron and stepped forward to ask, "So, are they willing to hire you?"
Su Huai-ren nonchalantly put down the yellow paper in his hand and took out a rattle drum from his pocket.
