Jiang Shuyue smiled and squeezed her fair and delicate wrist. "You're getting married?"
"Oh dear! Sister Jiang, you're teasing me again. I haven't even gotten engaged yet, who am I going to marry?" Du Yutong pouted, her face turning red.
Jiang Shuyue feigned disappointment, "If it's not Yutong's marriage, then it's not good news."
My aunt got divorced.
"The aunt who married into the second branch of the Wei family?" Jiang Shuyue wasn't surprised at all.
Prime Minister Wei suffered a defeat in his first confrontation with Xiao Jingzhao, resulting in heavy losses for the Wei family. The nobles in the capital are not to be underestimated, and the Wei family, once a powerful force, will eventually be reduced to a single, isolated tree.
"Yes, Aunt has finally escaped the clutches of the Wei family."
"This is great news, congratulations!"
"Unfortunately, I didn't see the scene when my father went to pick up my aunt. According to the maids who accompanied my aunt, the Prime Minister's mansion was very lively that day."
"You really don't like stirring things up. It's already a great thing that your aunt got the divorce papers. Considering the Wei family's past behavior of bullying men and women, it's already being polite not to give them a divorce certificate."
Jiang Shuyue released Du Yutong's hand and patted it gently.
At this moment, Qiuju brought over some tea.
"Hello, Miss Du."
"Miss Qiuju's face is as beautiful as a peach blossom; is good news on the horizon?"
Qiuju smiled shyly, "It's still a long way off."
Afraid that Du Yutong would tease her, Qiuju put down her teacup, blushed, and ran away.
"Miss Qiuju is shy." Du Yutong laughed so hard she almost fell over, completely losing the composure she usually displayed as a well-bred young lady.
Du Yutong only relaxed like this in front of Jiang Shuyue.
Stopping her laughter, Du Yutong continued the previous topic.
"I don't know what evil has befallen the Wei family. My aunt got divorced because she never had any marital affection with that person. But Miss Jiang cried and made a scene to marry into the Wei family. When she saw my aunt making a scene about getting a divorce, she just blindly joined in the commotion."
Jiang Shuyue scoffed, "What right does a concubine have to make a fuss about divorce? It's something that can be dealt with by sending a slave trader."
Du Yutong continued, "Right? I'm wondering too. I heard she's pregnant and is threatening Wei Mingzhou with the baby in her belly. If Wei Mingzhou doesn't make her his official wife, she'll get rid of the baby."
"Get rid of the child? That would be abnormal and would suit her mother-in-law, Aunt Chen's, wishes."
Once the eldest son is born, Wei Mingzhou's marriage will be over.
Given the Wei family's current predicament, any official with a modicum of sense would not marry their daughter into their family.
If he were to give birth to an illegitimate son, Wei Mingzhou would never be able to marry a daughter from a respectable family.
Du Yutong said she was thirsty, so she picked up her tea and took two sips.
He put down his teacup and said, "Sister Jiang, do you really believe she wants to get rid of the child in her belly? She's just putting on an act with the First Madam."
"After Jiang Jiaojiao entered the Wei family, she suffered a lot of hardship. I don't know if she changed her personality or if someone gave her some pointers, but she made the First Madam so happy that Aunt Chen was so angry that she almost vomited blood."
Jiang Shuyue finally understood.
Jiang Jiaojiao tries to curry favor with Madam Wei, and the two conspire to suppress the most favored concubine, Chen.
Jiang Shuyue smiled faintly, "Does Madam Wei intend to make her the official wife?"
"Madam Wei nodded, saying that as long as she gives birth to a son, she will make the decision for her."
Jiang Shuyue chuckled, "The Prime Minister's mansion is full of talented people; he really is an old fox."
Du Yutong rolled her eyes. "That's right. The First Madam has been the one to do all the good work. If Jiang Jiaojiao gives birth to a son, it would be only natural for her to propose making Jiang Jiaojiao the official wife. Perhaps even Old Madam Wei would agree. After all, Minister Jiang has not been demoted. Given the Wei family's current reputation, it would probably be impossible to find another Minister for marriage alliance."
"That makes sense."
"What if Jiang Jiaojiao didn't give birth to a son?" Jiang Shuyue asked curiously.
"Hmph! Then she can continue to curry favor with the First Madam. Think about it, Concubine Chen is not young anymore. If she is squeezed out and suppressed by the two of them, she will surely fall out of favor in less than half a year."
It must be admitted that Du Yutong's analysis was very insightful. Even Jiang Shuyue, who had lived two lives, might not have seen things as clearly as she did.
As the two were talking, another woman came for a consultation. Du Yutong moved aside and watched intently as Jiang Shuyue examined the woman using the four diagnostic methods of traditional Chinese medicine.
After some questioning, the woman said she had a dull ache in her chest.
"Madam, have you been getting angry a lot lately?"
The woman nodded, “Indeed, young lady, you are truly a divine physician. I have heard that the young ladies of Jishetang have excellent medical skills. I have come to the right place.”
Jiang Shuyue got up and walked towards the back, saying, "Come with me to the back for a thorough inspection."
The woman followed her inside.
Seeing Jiang Shuyue busy, Du Yutong simply walked to one side of the medicine cabinet and talked to the apprentice girls.
Yinqiao put down the medical book in her hand and looked for the corresponding acupoints on the bronze figure in front of her.
Seeing Du Yutong approach, she gave Du Yutong a slight bow, "Greetings, Miss Du. Would you like to learn acupuncture today?"
Miss Du was a regular at Jishetang, and every time she came, Jiang Shuyue would teach her some medical knowledge.
Du Yutong waved her hand, "Miss Yinqiao, please don't tease me. I haven't even identified all the medicinal herbs yet, how could I dare to learn how to prick people with silver needles?"
"Young lady, you don't need to rush to insert the needles. First, familiarize yourself with the location of the acupoints. Massaging some acupoints can also be effective."
"real?"
Yinqiao's words piqued Du Yutong's interest.
She was actually quite afraid of needles; those long silver needles were frightening to look at.
“Really, you can massage Taichong, Zusanli, and Sanyinjiao acupoints for numbness in your feet. Just a few breaths and the numbness will disappear immediately. Try it next time if you don’t believe me?” Yin Qiao said, picking up the small bronze figure and pointing out the acupoints to Du Yutong.
Seeing that Du Yutong was listening attentively, Yin Qiao patiently explained, "Master said that these acupoints can improve blood circulation in the legs. When the legs are numb, it means that the blood and qi are not flowing smoothly. Just find the right acupoints and press them."
