Lin Miaoshou picked up Sui Sui and pinched his little cheek, "Don't call me Grandpa Lin anymore."
Sui Sui asked, puzzled, "Why?"
"This is too much for this old man."
Nangong Zeyue smiled without saying a word. Since Sui Sui's identity had not yet been revealed, he felt that it didn't matter how she was addressed.
Sui Sui's classmate was the first to see him and said to Sui Sui, "Your dad has come to pick you up again."
If we were to be serious, wouldn't he have to have his entire family executed? Luckily, he didn't have nine generations of his family to be executed.
Sui Sui reached out and stroked a strand of Lin Miaoshou's beard, giggling, "Grandpa Lin, you've grown a beard, so of course you're Grandpa."
Lin Miaoshou: "..."
Nangong Zeyue watched as his martial uncle played with Sui Sui like a playful old man, and he sat down and watched quietly.
A moment later, the maid took Sui Sui to wash up and change her clothes.
Lin Miaoshou then sat down, picked up his teacup and took a sip. Looking at the composed Nangong Zeyue, he asked, "The side rooms behind the shops on Huanhua Street are still empty. Why don't you go and keep your senior brothers company?"
“I can live anywhere by myself. How about I buy a two-courtyard house nearby and my martial uncle can come and live with me?” Nangong Zeyue said earnestly.
"It's settled then. You either go back to Black Dragon Pool or move out. A man and a woman living alone under one roof will only invite gossip."
"Uncle-Master, who have you heard gossiping about? I often enter and exit through the side gate. Besides, my courtyard is the farthest from Shuyue's. What is there to gossip about?"
"you……"
Lin Miaoshou wasn't worried about gossip; he was concerned that the person in the palace would throw this blockhead out of the capital.
"In short, Shuyue considers you a good friend, and you should have your own home now. If you don't have enough money to buy a house, you can ask your senior brother for it. I keep all my money with him."
"I have enough silver. That's what my martial uncle came out to tell me today. Is there nothing else?"
Nangong Zeyue lifted her sleeves, extended her slender fingers, and gently lifted the teapot to fill the teacup in front of her master.
Lin Miaoshou turned her head and looked towards the door. "I've come to ask Yueya to come to the palace to help."
On the other side, as soon as Jiang Shuyue got off the carriage, the gatekeeper came to greet her.
"Miss, Physician Lin is waiting for you inside."
Lin Miaoshou left the palace in such a hurry that she didn't even have time to change out of the clothes she was wearing at the Imperial Hospital.
Very few people ever come to the Jiang residence, but the gatekeeper remembered Lin Miaoshou after just one meeting.
"Qiuju, go and tell the kitchen to prepare a few more dishes."
Jiang Shuyue took a few steps and then stopped. "Warm up another pot of good wine."
"Yes, Miss. Please go to Shaohua Courtyard quickly."
At that moment, the kitchen was preparing dinner, and Qiuju instructed the cook to go to the wine cellar to get some wine.
When Jiang Shuyue arrived at Shaohua Courtyard, after listening to Lin Miaoshou's words, she pondered for a moment before slowly saying, "I understand what Uncle Lin means. Most of the imperial physicians in the Imperial Hospital are men. If I, a woman, go to take the exam, they will definitely not be convinced."
"Uncle Lin's medical skills are no less than theirs; you are perfectly capable of handling this role."
Nangong Zeyue chimed in, "Shuyue is right. Those old guys in the palace think they're something special. It would be better if His Majesty found someone else for this."
"What do you know? That's the Emperor's decree, and imperial orders cannot be disobeyed!" Lin Miaoshou said, glaring at Nangong Zeyue.
"Isn't this bullying? Shuyue isn't an official of the court, why should he be able to summon her and dismiss her at will?"
Nangong Zeyue ignored her uncle's disapproving look and spoke the truth.
Seeing the two arguing, Jiang Shuyue waved her hand and said, "Stop talking, I'll go."
The two shut up and looked at Jiang Shuyue.
"Uncle Lin, this is not a simple matter. I still need to organize the medical records and see what the fairest way to conduct the assessment is."
"Does Yueya want everyone to prescribe a prescription for a specific case?"
"That's right. We need to see whose prescription is most effective for the cases so that we can identify the truly capable people."
“Alright, I can take on some of the work of collecting and organizing medical records. The Imperial Hospital has several years' worth of logs; we can pick out the usable cases from them.”
The matter of the Imperial Medical Academy was thus decided amicably.
The maid brought dinner to Shaohua Courtyard.
A short while later, Gao Mu delivered a package containing medicinal herbs and several letters.
As soon as Sui Sui received the letter, she couldn't wait to read it.
"Mother, Shuisheng's lightness skill is better than before. He can leap seven feet in one go now."
"You can do it too in the future." Jiang Shuyue gave her son an encouraging look.
Nangong Zeyue always brings Suisui with her when she does her morning exercise. The little guy dances around beside her, mimicking her every move perfectly.
Lin Miaoshou held the letter and nodded repeatedly. "I haven't taught him much, but this child's kung fu has improved a lot. Not bad, not bad. It seems that the decision to send him back to Black Dragon Pool was the right one."
After reading the letter, Jiang Shuyue asked Qiuju to put it away. She then picked up her wine cup and smiled at Nangong Zeyue, saying, "You need to practice more, so you don't fall behind."
Nangong Zeyue raised her glass across the table, "Shuisheng was originally a martial arts prodigy. It will only take him three to five years to surpass my skill."
"Hmph! You still have some self-awareness. When you were as young as Shui Sheng, you would always feel pain or soreness when you practiced martial arts. If it weren't for the fact that you grew up without parents, I wouldn't be protecting you." Lin Miaoshou glared at Nangong Zeyue, picked up her wine cup, and drank it all in one gulp.
Nangong Zeyue chuckled, even her uncle's eye roll was so gentle.
Having no parents didn't bother Nangong Zeyue much; he had his master, uncles, and brothers, and that was enough for him.
After dinner, Lin Miaoshou said she had other things to do and returned to Huanhua Street. Before leaving, she reminded Nangong Zeyue about buying a house.
Jiang Shuyue felt a little dizzy after having a small drink.
They went back to the courtyard and rested early.
In the study of Shaohua Courtyard, the window was half-open. At the desk, Nangong Zeyue and Sui Sui sat side by side. The warm candlelight reflected on their faces, creating a tranquil and serene halo.
Suddenly, a gust of wind blew in, causing the half-open window to sway from side to side, almost extinguishing the candlelight inside.
Nangong Zeyue quickly got up and closed the half-window.
Sui Sui looked at Shui Sheng's reply and imagined him crowing a rooster and practicing swordplay.
A moment later, the sound of pattering rain broke the tranquility of the night.
"Uncle Nangong, Mom just said she's going to take me to the manor outside the city to play. Shall we go together?"
"Uncle has other things to do, I'll wait for you to come back."
Nangong Zeyue patted Sui Sui's little head.
My uncle is right. He still needs to buy a house, preferably one that is close to the Jiang residence.
The next morning, Nangong Zeyue left the Jiang residence early.
In front of the dressing table, Jiang Shuyue selected two plum blossom-shaped hairpins.
Qiuju looked at the earrings that her young mistress had worn for several years without changing them, then picked up a pair of vermilion earrings and compared them. "Miss, please change into this pair. The color matches the hairpin quite well."
"No need, this is something my mother left me, and I like it too."
Qiuju was puzzled. It was fine to keep it away if she liked, but why couldn't Miss even take it off when she slept?
"Miss, from today onwards, are you really going to let Sui Sui go everywhere with you?"
Jiang Shuyue smiled and said, "Now that the curfew in the capital has been lifted, there is no danger. I am not afraid to let people know that I have a son."
