Nangong Zeyue's hand trembled, causing the plaque to tilt to one side. Her body swayed slightly, but she quickly steadied herself and hung the plaque back up.
He turned around and saw Gao Mu staring at him with a completely bewildered expression.
He chuckled sheepishly, "It's a courtyard I just bought, so it's not appropriate to hang someone else's name on it. Look, doesn't hanging it with 'Nangong Mansion' sound much more impressive?"
Hearing their conversation, Jiang Shuyue lifted the carriage curtain and stepped out.
She glanced at Nangong Zeyue and asked, "Are you planning to settle down and establish yourself in the capital?"
Nangong Zeyue descended the bamboo ladder, bowed to the person who helped him hold it, thanked them, and then walked towards Jiang Shuyue.
"I'll settle down in the capital first; it's still a long way off before I can truly take root and flourish." With that, he reached out and picked up Sui Sui from the carriage shaft and started walking back.
After taking a few steps, he stopped and turned back to look at Jiang Shuyue: "Let's go in and take a look. This yard isn't as big as yours, but it's small but complete."
Jiang Shuyue gave Qiuju a few instructions and then walked towards the next room.
Once inside the courtyard, Nangong Zeyue put Sui Sui down and said, "Go take a stroll and see if there's a house you like in the yard."
Jiang Shuyue walked into the courtyard and looked around, but couldn't see a single servant or maid.
She turned back and closed the courtyard gate.
He hurried a few steps into the hanging flower gate, caught up with Nangong Zeyue, and asked, "How much is this courtyard for? I haven't heard that this courtyard is for sale?"
“You’re so busy all day that you don’t even know who lives next door. How could you know that someone urgently needs money and is selling their yard at a bargain price? This yard is 30% cheaper than the market price, it’s a great deal.” Nangong Zeyue’s fox-like eyes crinkled into crescent moons with laughter.
People who don't know the truth might actually think he bought a bargain.
The courtyard is complete with pavilions and waterside terraces. Although the garden outside the covered walkway lacks the vibrant life of spring, every plant and tree is arranged in a pleasing and orderly manner, showing that the owner of this courtyard is a person of refined taste.
Looking at the wall again, you can see the treetops and rooftops of the neighbor's yard.
Jiang Shuyue withdrew her gaze. "You haven't had time to buy servants yet. I'll have Qiuju send a few people over to help you pack."
Nangong Zeyue did not refuse. He was short of money and had no intention of buying maids or servants. He only bought the courtyard to rest at night and to avoid his uncle nagging him.
Sui Sui wandered around for a while and then ran back, shaking her head and sighing, "Uncle Nangong, this yard of yours is not fun. It's better to go back to our home."
The little guy said he wanted to take Nangong Zeyue's hand and go home.
"Who said it wasn't fun? Look at your uncle."
Before Sui Sui could even react, Nangong Zeyue tossed the keys in her hand to Jiang Shuyue, picked up Sui Sui with one arm, and leaped onto the wall.
"That's fun. Uncle Nangong, don't use the main gate next time. Let's just go through here."
I could hear my son's giggling laughter coming from next door.
Jiang Shuyue sighed and rubbed her forehead.
This guy bought the apartment next door to hers, what a coincidence!
Jiang Shuyue went back and changed into comfortable clothes before starting to organize the medical records.
She sent Gao Mu and Cang Yun to find out from the real estate agents whether there were any restaurants for sale.
After lunch, she rushed to the hospital.
Just as I arrived at the clinic, I saw Du Yutong come out from inside.
"Sister Jiang, where have you been? I've been looking for you for two days."
Du Yutong playfully stepped forward and took Jiang Shuyue's arm.
The pale yellow gauze made her look exceptionally charming, her delicate eyebrows slightly furrowed, and her eyes revealing anxiety.
"What's wrong? Which rich kid came to your house to propose again? Look at your face, it's almost wrinkled up like a bun." Jiang Shuyue reached out and pinched her cheek.
"Sister Jiang, please don't tease me. You have to help me this time. My aunt's life is too hard. She just escaped the wolf's den, and now she's eyeing the fire pit again."
"Wait a minute, I have something to ask you, let's go into the backyard and talk about it."
Jiang Shuyue asked Yin Qiao and the others if there was anything else going on at the clinic. Yin Qiao said that most of the people who came in the past two days had brought prescriptions to get medicine. A pregnant woman came to inquire, and after examining her, Yin Qiao asked her to come back a few days later.
Jiang Shuyue pulled Du Yutong to the backyard.
"Tell me, whose family's hearth has set its sights on your aunt?"
Du Yutong glanced at Jiang Shuyue and then lowered her eyes. "Sister Jiang, promise me you won't be upset when I tell you."
"It is the Minister's residence."
"What? Jiang Zhengming!" Jiang Shuyue suddenly realized that she was too emotional.
Then, in a calm tone, he asked, "What did your aunt say?"
Although Jiang Shuyue never admitted that she was the eldest daughter of the Jiang family.
Du Yutong never mentioned it, but she knew better than anyone that she was the person the Minister's Mansion had publicly declared had died suddenly.
"Yesterday, the matchmaker came to propose marriage. My father said that Jiang Zhengming is well-behaved in the court and has a smooth career. I think my father meant that he wanted to agree to the marriage."
Jiang Shuyue raised an eyebrow, "Your aunt is willing too?"
“My aunt said that other people’s children are hard to raise properly, and she doesn’t want to remarry, but she’s afraid of interfering with her family’s marriage plans.”
Du Yutong looked up at Jiang Shuyue and said, "I know Jiang Zhengming is not a good match, but there are some things I can't say to my father. Sister Jiang, could you please take a look at my aunt? Perhaps with some herbal medicine, my aunt will be able to have her own child in the future."
“No problem. The temperature has been stable lately, and there aren’t many patients at the clinic. I’ll go home with you now.”
Jiang Shuyue had done a lot of research on infertility before.
Aunt Du has been married for many years, and the Prime Minister's mansion must have consulted the imperial physicians. If even the imperial physicians were powerless to treat the illness, Jiang Shuyue was not confident.
Upon entering the Du residence, Du Yutong led Jiang Shuyue directly to the courtyard of Du Wenru, Du's aunt.
Contrary to Jiang Shuyue's expectations, Du Wenru was not as dejected and depressed as an abandoned woman.
Upon seeing Jiang Shuyue, she warmly took her hand and looked her over from left to right.
"You're the famous courtesan in the capital? You're not what I imagined. You're as beautiful as a delicate flower. I would believe it if someone told me you were an empress in the palace."
Jiang Shuyue was embarrassed by the praise. After exchanging greetings, she smiled and said, "Aunt Du, please don't joke. How could a lady become a female doctor? My daughter only learned a skill to make a living when she had no other choice."
Du Yutong didn't know what Sister Jiang had gone through, and she couldn't ask.
A pang of sadness rose in her heart, and her eyes reddened. She pretended to lower her head and drink tea to compose herself.
Jiang Shuyue didn't beat around the bush; after sitting down, she observed Du Wenru's complexion.
Du Wenru, in her early thirties, has fair skin and a beautiful appearance, looking like she's in her late twenties.
If she dressed up in a brighter way and stood next to Du Yutong, people would just think of her as Du Yutong's older sister.
Skin that is fair and rosy, smooth and delicate, indicates an imbalance of Qi and blood.
After exchanging a few pleasantries with the two, Du Yutong put down her teacup, stepped forward, took Du Wenru's hand, and said, "Aunt, you have heard of Sister Jiang's medical skills. If you are healthy, why would you need to remarry? With the Du family's status, you deserve the best young talents."
Du Wenru glared at her niece playfully, "Have you ever seen a young and promising man in his early thirties who is still unmarried? I don't want to be someone's second wife, nor do I want people to say that the Du family is supporting an old aunt. After the New Year, I will find a nunnery to practice Buddhism and pray for you every day."
