Jiang Zhengming raised his long whip, which hung in mid-air.
With red eyes, Yang pretended to be timid and went to take the whip from Jiang Zhengming's hand.
Seeing Jiang Shuyue looking like she was about to die a heroic death, Jiang Zhengming turned his gaze to Jiang Jiaojiao.
"Jiao'er, you tell me, whose young master has she taken a fancy to?"
Jiang Zhengming was certain that his eldest daughter was beautiful, talented, and ambitious; anyone she set her sights on would surely be exceptional.
Extraordinary.
This clandestine union without a matchmaker was something he had never anticipated.
"It's Brother Yang Mao!"
"puff!"
Jiang Shuyue felt her blood surging and vomited a mouthful of blood.
Jiang Zhengming stumbled and swayed precariously, and Yang quickly went to support him.
"My lord, things have come to this, so please grant Yue'er's wish!"
"I understand that my nephew is unworthy of Yue'er, but Yue'er... sigh!"
Madam Yang sighed heavily, swallowing back what she was about to say.
Her own nephew was neither good at literature nor martial arts, so she asked Jiang Zhengming to tutor him in his studies. He had been living in the Minister's residence for some time now.
Jiang Shuyue had inherited the original owner's memories, so of course she knew what kind of person Yang Mao was.
She glanced at the blood she had vomited; the blood that sprayed the furthest out appeared slightly dark.
She took a deep breath, and the tightness in her chest subsided slightly.
She raised her sleeve to wipe the blood from the corner of her lips, her gaze fixed on Jiang Zhengming, devoid of any warmth.
"It wasn't him!"
His voice was hoarse and broken.
She clearly remembered that the man had a pair of extremely beautiful eyes.
When she denied it, Jiang Jiaojiao got angry.
She exchanged a glance with Yang, and then knelt down with a thud.
"Father, please punish your daughter! It's all my fault for helping my elder sister hide the truth from you."
Jiang Zhengming was furious, his eyes bloodshot as he glared at Jiang Shuyue: "You wicked girl! I've gone to great lengths to raise you, only to have you submit to that good-for-nothing?"
Hearing Jiang Zhengming so disparaging of her nephew, Madam Yang dared not speak out in anger.
She lowered her eyes and gently advised, "Husband, please calm down. Yang Mao hasn't passed the imperial examination yet, but he is deeply in love with Yue'er. Please grant them their wish!"
Jiang Jiaojiao feigned distress: "Alas! Things have come to this point, and we can't hide it any longer. Big sister, please don't blame me for not helping you keep it a secret. Today's events were truly due to your lack of foresight."
"Fortunately, Mother was clever. She had someone carry you back before the people in the Princess's residence found out. If the Princess had found out about this, our whole family would have been in trouble."
"Don't worry, my husband, I've already given a gag order. This matter with Yue'er won't affect the reputation of the young ladies in the manor," Madam Yang added opportunely.
When Jiang Jiaojiao saw that Jiang Shuyue's gaze was as cold as ice, a chill ran down her spine.
“Father, my elder sister refuses to admit it. I’ll go and call my cousin over right now.”
Jiang Zhengming waved his hand: "Go and bring that beast here for a confrontation."
A hint of smugness flashed across Yang's eyes.
Apart from the eldest daughter of the Jiang family, she was the matriarch of the household, and her daughter was promoted to the position of eldest daughter.
The Yang family has made a fortune by marrying Jiang Shuyue, who is both beautiful and talented.
Without her blocking her daughter's way, her darling's chances of entering the palace would be even greater.
Even if her daughter couldn't live in the Jiaofang Palace, she would be satisfied even if she were just the head of a palace.
Jiang Zhengming looked at Jiang Shuyue with deep disappointment.
Jiang Shuyue lowered her eyes and pondered.
Who is that person?
Based on her many years of experience in both traditional Chinese and Western medicine, she believed that the original owner was physically weak and had died from being given an excessive dose of medicine.
She vaguely remembered making eye contact with a pair of starry eyes in her dazed state.
Those were phoenix eyes that shone like stars, their gaze hazy, as if they had been under the influence of aphrodisiac.
Jiang Shuyue racked her brains, but couldn't come up with any more information.
Seeing that the daughter on whom he once placed high hopes showed no remorse.
Jiang Zhengming was furious.
"Will you confess or stubbornly deny it? If you remain obstinate, I'll give you two choices."
Hearing that there were still options, Jiang Shuyue looked up at Jiang Zhengming, her voice barely audible, "My daughter has no connection with Yang Mao whatsoever, Qiuju can testify to that."
Seeing that Jiang Zhengming didn't believe her at all, she gritted her teeth and said, "Tell me! Which two paths do you have?"
As long as her hands and feet aren't tied and she's not submerged in the pond, she's an excellent swimmer, and since it's not winter yet, she's confident she can escape by water.
"First, you married into the Yang family discreetly."
"No! Absolutely not, I would rather die than marry him." Jiang Shuyue rejected the idea without hesitation.
"Secondly, Jiang Shuyue is no longer a member of the Jiang family."
Jiang Shuyue looked puzzled. What did it mean that the Jiang family no longer had Jiang Shuyue?
Am I going to die right after transmigrating here?
Yang was getting anxious. She knew Jiang Zhengming well; he was ruthless enough, but not vicious enough.
I'm afraid he didn't mean for Jiang Shuyue to die.
Jiang Zhengming paused, then turned to Yang and said, "Tomorrow, please have the clan head bring the family genealogy. You will be officially recognized as my second wife. Jiang Shuyue will no longer be the legitimate daughter of the Jiang family and will be removed from the family genealogy."
Overjoyed, Madam Yang wept, "My lord, it doesn't matter whether I become the principal wife or not, it's Yue'er she..."
Anyone who didn't know better would think she was crying because she was sad for Jiang Shuyue.
Jiang Shuyue took in the triumphant look in her eyes.
"Since she refuses to marry into the Yang family, you go and have the steward prepare a carriage and send her to the estate before the city gates close. Announce to the outside world that the eldest daughter of the Jiang family has died of a sudden illness."
Yang reluctantly accepted the order and left.
Jiang Zhengming then flicked his sleeves and said, "Go pack your things and get out of the Minister's residence right now."
Jiang Shuyue raised her eyes, her gaze lingering on the memorial tablet of the original owner's mother.
