Upon seeing Jiang Shuyue, Nangong Zeyue dusted off imaginary dust and greeted her.
Jiang Shuyue asked with a smile, "How are you? Are you getting used to staying at the restaurant? If you're not comfortable, you might as well go home."
“Young Master Nangong, I visit your courtyard every day. The servants keep your room so clean, just like you are at home.”
"Thank you for your concern, Yue Niang. Qiu Ju, you've worked hard. I'm doing very well here. I just miss Sui Sui and Su Nan. After the restaurant opens, I'll take some time to go back to the mansion for a night."
Nangong Zeyue turned to the side and said, "Moon Lady, do you think the layout of the guest rooms is reasonable?"
Upon seeing Jiang Shuyue, the young men all came over to pay their respects.
It's very close to the stairs here, and the wooden building isn't very soundproof, so Jiang Shuyue asked Nangong Zeyue to renovate it into a modern standard room.
The spacious room contained two canopy beds, with a small square table in the middle.
On the other side were a wardrobe and a dressing table, and a four-panel screen stood in front of the washroom. The washroom was the part of the restaurant that Jiang Shuyue was most satisfied with.
Although the washroom lacked modern drainpipes, the people inside would collect the used water in wooden buckets for wastewater, which the inn's servants would clean up regularly.
“Great, I’m even more looking forward to the effect of those couple’s rooms.”
Nangong Zeyue had a gentle expression. He instructed the young men, "Arrange things according to this layout."
He stepped out of the guest room and raised his arm. "Let's go see the name I gave the guest room. The fabric store sent over a set of bedding, and I've had it arranged."
"Are the sheets and duvet cover the right size?" Jiang Shuyue asked as she walked.
"The size is just right, and I think it's a little loose. The shopkeeper personally brought it over to try it on before leaving."
The quilt covers here are separate, and they have to be sewn together stitch by stitch every time they are used, which is very tedious.
Jiang Shuyue had the fabric shop make a quilt cover that looked like a modern one, with an opening for stuffing cotton tied up with several strips of cloth.
Qiuju followed behind, her eyes never idle. From the corridor of the guest rooms, one could see the curtains inside the rooms, some purplish-red and some bright red. Paired with vermilion window frames, it was as if she had come to the outside of a bridal chamber.
"Moon Lady, what do you think of the name I just randomly picked?"
Jiang Shuyue looked up and saw that there was an exquisite wooden plaque above the doors of several rooms at the end of the corridor.
"Qinghuan, Chenghuan, Shihuan..." As Jiang Shuyue read the last part, she had a strange feeling. Was this an inn? Why did it feel like a brothel?
When she finally reached the end and saw the signs for Peach Blossom Spring and Water Cloud Stream, she breathed a sigh of relief, at least she was alright.
The opening date was already tight, and she didn't want to bother Nangong Zeyue any further. "Alright, that's fine. Most of these rooms are for women who have come from afar. If couples are coming together, you can ask the waiter to recommend rooms and let the guests choose for themselves."
In the capital, there are very few inns with rooms for couples. Jiang Shuyue saw this as a business opportunity. The layout of the rooms is similar, the difference lies in the bedding and curtains.
Nangong Zeyue pushed open the door, and a joyful atmosphere filled the room.
Jiang Shuyue walked into the room, where a window was open on one side of the dressing table.
On the semi-circular bed, a bright red brocade quilt embroidered with mandarin ducks playing in the water covered the entire bed, and the long square pillows were also embroidered with mandarin ducks playing in the water.
Jiang Shuyue stopped in front of the bed. The setting sun shone into the room through the window, casting a beam of light onto the wedding quilt, filling the room with a joyful atmosphere.
Just as Nangong Zeyue was about to ask Jiang Shuyue's opinion, he looked up and inadvertently saw the soft light reflecting on Jiang Shuyue's face, making her look like a bride under the candlelight in her bridal chamber, delicate and beautiful.
With just one glance, his heart seemed to skip a beat uncontrollably.
He hurriedly looked away from the window, cleared his throat, and said, "This room is in a better location than the previous ones. I plan to set a different price. What do you think, Yue Niang?"
Jiang Shuyue turned to look at the bronze mirror on the dressing table and said, "I'm entrusting the management of the inn to you. You have full authority over how to set the prices. I'm having you design these rooms so that they're novel and unique, making our Juxian Pavilion stand out from the crowd."
"Miss, this is not just extraordinary, it's simply breathtaking."
When Qiuju entered the room, she was stunned. The room was decorated like a bridal chamber if red silk were hung up. It was warm and sweet, especially the large bed without a side rail, which seemed even more comfortable than a canopy bed.
"I'm glad you like it, Qiuju. As for the dragon and phoenix quilt cover, I'll have the fabric shop make an extra one. It would be good enough if the two embroiderers in the manor could finish embroidering the wedding dress."
Qiuju was busy all day long and had no time to embroider her own wedding dress.
"Miss, there's no need to prepare so much for me." The room was already bathed in red light, which conveniently concealed the blush on Qiuju's face.
After coming down from the second floor of the inn, Jiang Shuyue went to the kitchen and storeroom.
"The carpenter said there wasn't enough time to do the carvings," Nangong Zeyue said, pointing to several wooden carts lined up against the wall.
The brown wooden planks still emitted a faint smell of raw lacquer.
Jiang Shuyue walked over, pulled out a cart, and tested it back and forth. "Not bad, the wheels are installed very well."
After Jiang Shuyue removed her hand from the cart, Nangong Zeyue pushed the cart back to its original position. He said, "I've tried each one, and they're all very stable. There's no problem delivering soup and dishes from the kitchen to the front of the house."
"Miss has so many ideas. This cart has three layers and can carry several dishes at once. With this, the waiters have a much easier time serving the food."
Jiang Shuyue smiled and said, "They still need to deliver the private rooms upstairs, but the distance from the kitchen to the front hall can be saved a bit of effort."
Nangong Zeyue used to wander the martial arts world and often stayed at inns. He knew better than anyone how difficult it was for a waiter to carry piping hot dishes.
Even though we always put a cloth in our hands, it's common to accidentally spill food and get burned.
