Chapter 23 A Familiar Feeling

Su Huai Ren was stunned for a moment. How come he didn't know that Lin Miaoshou knew martial arts?

When discussing the Analects with this fellow, he is no less capable than a scholar from the Hanlin Academy.

Coming to his senses, Su Huai-ren urged, "Shui-sheng, quickly call him Master. A teacher for a day is a father for life. You have family again."

"Shuisheng, you have superhuman strength; you're a natural talent for learning kung fu," Aunt Su said, hugging Suisui tightly.

Shuisheng was completely stunned by this unexpected good news.

He raised his sleeve to wipe away the tears on his face and turned his gaze to Jiang Shuyue.

Seeing Jiang Shuyue nod gently at him, he walked towards Lin Miaoshou.

"Master, please accept my three bows."

Immediately afterwards, he kowtowed three times earnestly.

As they descended the mountain, Lin Miaoshou held Shuisheng's small hand tightly.

Three days later, everyone set off south again.

Wherever she went, Jiang Shuyue would secretly help refugees whenever she had the chance.

Some people wake up to find rice in their pot, and they assume it's a miracle and quietly put the rice away.

Some families, unable to survive, planned to sell their children into slavery in the next county town in order to give them a way to live.

With rice, they changed their minds again. As long as they reached Yannan, even if the whole family was begging, they could stay together.

Two days later, they entered the territory of Yannan.

"Old Lin, look, there are soldiers registering refugees up ahead. It seems like they're going to settle them. Shall we go take a look?" Su Huai-ren said, pulling the carriage curtain aside and looking at the crowd ahead.

Lin Miao shook the reins in her hand, and the carriage sped up a bit.

Without turning his head, he said, "We've only just entered Yannan. Yannan has many cities, the most prosperous of which is Laiyang."

"Old Lin, how do you know so much? You must have been to Yannan before!"

Lin Miaoshou pressed down the straw hat on his head: "You are a bookworm who has read ten thousand books, while I am an ascetic monk who has traveled ten thousand miles to gather herbs. Of course I have been to Yannan."

Su Huai Ren: "..." This statement seems to make sense.

Upon entering the first city, passing by a bookstore, Jiang Shuyue decisively went down and bought a map of Yannan.

As the sun set, Lin Miaoshou found an inn.

After dinner, Lin Miaoshou took out a silver note and pushed it in front of Jiang Shuyue: "Please ask Miss Jiang to help Shuisheng get some nice clothes. As his master, I can't let him dress too shabbily."

Jiang Shuyue glanced at Lin Miaoshou's cotton clothes and took the silver note.

A full one hundred taels!

Jiang Shuyue: "..." Uncle Lin is indeed a big shot.

Her heart bled as she recalled how she and the Su family had often helped Lin Miaoshou in the past.

She's the one who needs help!

"What! Is there a problem with the banknotes?"

Lin Miaoshou noticed Jiang Shuyue's strange expression as she looked at the silver notes and was puzzled.

Jiang Shuyue quickly put away the silver note: "No, no problem. I was just thinking that Shuisheng is so lucky to have met such a good master like you."

"Go shopping without worry. Yannan is very safe. Buy yourself a couple of outfits too."

Hearing the shouts behind her, Jiang Shuyue felt a warm glow in her heart.

That cheap father is not even half as good as Uncle Lin. Luckily, she is not the original owner of this body, otherwise she would be heartbroken.

Su Huai-ren was, after all, a scholar, and he could no longer endure the arduous journey.

After dinner and washing up, I went to rest.

Aunt Su was worried about Jiang Shuyue going shopping alone, so she asked Su Jin to go with her.

Su Nan was full of energy and insisted on going along, but Su Hui stopped him and told him to take Sui Sui to wash her hair and take a bath.

Jiang Shuyue led Shui Sheng by the hand, while Su Jin and Qiu Ju flanked them on either side, and the group walked briskly toward the brightly lit street.

Looking at the antique buildings on both sides of the street, and the dazzling array of goods in the shops.

Pedestrians on the street were dressed in fine silks and satins, looking relaxed, and luxury cars and horses passed by from time to time.

Qiuju exclaimed softly, "Miss, the prosperity here surpasses even the capital! I heard that the Prince of Yannan's mansion is located in Laiyang; how wealthy it must be!"

Su Jin's eyes lit up: "Sister! I like it here too. The capital city is too decadent."

Su Jin had been to an academy when he was in the capital and had seen many snobbish young men.

Back when his father was still the Assistant Director of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices, his snobbish classmates weren't very close to him.

It wasn't until his father became the Vice Minister of Rites that those young masters seemed to change completely.

During breaks, he would invite him to play pitch-pot, and when he took a break from school, he would invite him to his home.

Some of his classmates even brought him the best pastries in the capital.

When my father was demoted and sent back to his hometown, all the relatives avoided him.

Looking back on the past, Su Jin smiled.

The world is a cold and indifferent place; there are so many people who curry favor with the powerful and influential, but that may be their way of surviving.

Shui Sheng had never seen such a magnificent sight before. Colorful lanterns of various shapes hung high in front of the shops, dazzling the eyes.

Not far away, there was a clothing store.

Jiang Shuyue carefully selected several spring outfits and several summer outfits for Shui Sheng.

Thinking that the little guy wanted to practice martial arts, Jiang Shuyue picked out two sets of tight-sleeved outfits for him.

At Jiang Shuyue's insistence, she bought a set of silk clothes for herself, Qiuju, and others.

The silver she robbed from Master Guo's house was still lying dormant in her spatial storage; she had to put it to good use.

After buying all those items, Su Jin and Qiu Ju couldn't carry them all.

Several people carrying large and small bags passed by the entrance of a restaurant.

The sound of horses' hooves approached from afar.

"Get out of the way!"

The sound of horses neighing rang out, and Jiang Shuyue finally looked up, only to see the horse at the front of the pack with its front hooves raised high.

"Aunt Yue!"

"Miss!"

"Sister!"

Amidst gasps of surprise.

Seeing that the horse's hooves would trample Jiang Shuyue, Su Jin dropped the bundle in his hand and rushed forward, grabbing Jiang Shuyue and spinning her around. Jiang Shuyue felt dizzy as Su Jin shielded her behind him.

The man on horseback pulled on the reins, causing the horse's hooves to veer slightly, barely grazing Su Jin's back as it landed.

Qiuju stepped forward to help Jiang Shuyue up, then glared angrily at the person on horseback: "Are you blind! Didn't you see there were people in front?"

"Aunt Yue, they're not just passing through; it looks like they're going to a restaurant for a meal."

Seeing that Jiang Shuyue and Su Jin were safe and sound, Shui Sheng picked up the bundle on the ground and glanced at the several imposing men on horseback.

Still shaken, Jiang Shuyue looked up and saw the man on horseback frowning at her.

Their eyes met, and they seemed to recognize each other.

The man's eyes shone like stars, yet were as deep and unfathomable as a cold pool, revealing no emotion whatsoever. His handsome features were sculpted, dazzling under the restaurant's lights.

He wore a moonlit cross-collar robe, his tall and straight figure exuding a majestic and extraordinary elegance.

A single breath of eye contact, and time seemed to stand still.

At this moment, the man dressed as a guard dismounted and bowed to Jiang Shuyue, saying, "We were in too much of a hurry and have offended you."

Looking at the somewhat familiar yet unfamiliar face, Jiang Shuyue paused for a moment before looking away.

She said to the guard who bowed to her, "You're not hurt, you're fine." Then she continued walking forward.
