Chapter 231 Vanished into Thin Air

"Wow! What a huge Kongming lantern! The picture of Chang'e flying to the moon is clearly visible on it." Chang Le said, unconsciously taking two steps toward the Kongming lantern.

They had already placed the lanterns they bought into the lotus pond. They hadn't written any wishes on them, but they had closed their eyes and silently prayed a few words.

One after another, Kongming lanterns rose slowly, a scene so stunning that even Jing'er forgot all of the Empress Dowager's instructions.

"My lady, I've heard that making wishes with sky lanterns is more effective than with flower lanterns. Shall I go and buy a few to try?"

“Jing’er understands me best. Let’s go buy some.” Chang Le tightened her grip on Sui Sui’s hand and happily rushed into the crowd.

"Hey... wait!" Su Nan took a quick step and followed.

There were too many people on the street, so Su Nan reached out and grabbed a piece of her sleeve.

"You don't need to make a wish. Besides, your wish is too big. Even the Bodhisattva can't help you. Don't go any further." Looking at the crowded people, Su Nan was so anxious that sweat beaded on his forehead.

He just couldn't understand it. Princesses could have anything they wanted, so why would they need to ask the Bodhisattva for help?

"Don't pull me, I want to hug Sui Sui." Chang Le pulled hard, and Su Nan had no choice but to let go.

"hiss……"

A horse neighed, followed by someone shouting, "The horse is startled! Get out of the way!"

The crowd began to stir, followed by a woman's exclamation.

"Sui Sui!"

"Second Miss!"

Su Nan dared not call out Princess Chang Le's name and anxiously pushed through the crowd to rush forward.

At this moment, a group of people suddenly appeared and blocked Su Nan's path.

"Young man, stop pushing! It's dangerous! Step back!" a man kindly warned, and then a large hand gripped Su Nan's arm like a vise.

"Let me go!" Su Nan struggled with all her might, but the difference in strength was too great, and she was dragged back several feet.

Amidst gasps of surprise, a carriage sped past.

Upon hearing the news, the patrol guards rushed to the scene and shouted to the still-shaken crowd, "Quickly, check if anyone is injured!"

Someone in the crowd said, "It looks like someone was hit and injured up ahead."

The people around Su Nan scattered like birds and beasts, and the rest of them began to look for their companions.

Upon hearing that someone was injured, Su Nan immediately ran forward, calling out Sui Sui's name as he ran.

He ran for a while and then stopped to look around.

Where did they go? They were just a step away, yet they vanished in an instant. This doesn't make sense.

"It's nothing, just a false alarm. I wonder whose coachman was so useless."

"Exactly, that's outrageous! That carriage was so big, I couldn't dodge it in time, and it tore my sleeve," a young man said, raising his sleeve.

The crowd chimed in, each one criticizing the departing carriage.

The streets were bustling with noise and the lights were shimmering. The crowd dispersed, and Chang Le and Sui Sui disappeared without a trace.

"Young Master Su, have you seen Miss and Sui Sui?" Su Nan was searching anxiously when he suddenly heard Jing'er's voice behind him.

“Jing’er, aren’t you with the Second Miss?” Su Nan turned around and saw Jing’er anxiously searching for Chang Le and Sui Sui.

"Someone pushed me before the carriage came rushing over. When I got up from the ground, my master and young master had disappeared."

"Oh no, that's not the horse being startled, someone did it on purpose!"

Su Nan turned around and ran towards the city patrol guards who were about to leave.

He grabbed the arm of a city patrol guard and gasped, "Sir, I need to report to the authorities. There's something fishy about that carriage. My two children have gone missing."

"Did anyone see someone being kidnapped?" another patrol guard asked.

Su Nan shook his head: "There were too many people, I didn't see clearly, but I'm sure the person was kidnapped."

“Young master, we can’t just arrest people. Tell me their ages and appearances, and I’ll notify others to search for them. There are a lot of people on the streets tonight; they might have gotten separated.”

Su Nan was so anxious that his lips were almost blistered; at this moment, all he wanted was to find Chang Le and Sui Sui as quickly as possible.

He could no longer care about anything else, his voice trembling with tears: "It's Princess Chang Le! The princess has been kidnapped!"

"What? Princess Chang... Princess Chang Le!"

The city patrol guard's legs went weak and his voice trembled.

Another patrol guard was startled and quickly waved his hand, shouting, "Chase them! Chase them quickly!"

"I'll go inform the others." Su Nan turned and ran back.

Tears blurred his vision. He bumped into several pedestrians along the way, and heard their angry curses, but he was numb to it. He continued running back home.

When Jing'er heard Su Nan say that someone had done it on purpose, she felt increasingly uneasy.

What a coincidence! Someone pushed her in front of the startled horse, and the princess and Sui Sui disappeared in the blink of an eye, as if they had vanished into thin air.

She hurriedly turned back to the Jiang residence to seek help.

As soon as Su Nan arrived at the gate of the Jiang residence, he saw Gao Mu ride out in pursuit, and Jing'er also stumbled out with her maids.

"Big sister, big brother!"

Upon seeing Jiang Shuyue and Su Jin leading the servant out, Su Nan choked up and called out.

He wished he could slap himself a few times. If he hadn't let go of the princess's hand, he might have been able to escape this calamity.

Upon seeing Su Nan, Jiang Shuyue asked eagerly, "Which direction did you go?"

“Sister, I’m sorry, it was me…” Su Nan was filled with remorse, and then he pointed in the direction the carriage had fled.

"This isn't your fault. Perhaps there are still remnants of the previous dynasty in the capital," Jiang Shuyue said, trying to remain calm as she comforted Su Nan.

"A-Jin, go to the restaurant and inform Nangong Zeyue."

“Su Nan will stay in the mansion, while the rest of you will go out to search, paying particular attention to the brokerage firms.”

Su Jin took the reins from the servant, mounted his horse without a word, and galloped away.
