She was about to raise her hand when she found that her hands were tied up with something.
Holy crap...
Did they run into kidnappers?
A sense of fear welled up inside me, and fragmented images surfaced in my mind.
A different kind of Kongming lantern, a startled horse, a noisy crowd, a sharp pain in the back of her neck amidst the throng, and then everything went black. It was as if someone had woven a huge net, just waiting for her to fall into it.
Wait, where did Sui Sui go?
With darkness before her eyes, Chang Le felt a pang of panic.
"Sui Sui, are you there?"
Chang Le called out several times, but Sui Sui did not respond.
"Waaaaah! You bad guys, where have you locked him up? Let him go! I'll give you whatever money you want!" Chang Le became more and more worried and couldn't help but cry and shout.
She tried to stand up, but her legs were numb; it turned out that both her feet were also bound.
She struggled to sit up, and the place her fingers touched was not the cold ground.
It's a wooden board.
She stretched her leg out and her toe kicked a soft object.
Overwhelmed with joy, she cried, "Sui Sui, is that you?"
There was no response. Chang Le was greatly alarmed. Could it be that the assailant had gone too far and killed Sui Sui...?
No! Even her good nephew can find jade; he's a lucky charm reincarnated, not so easily harmed.
Chang Le tried to calm herself down as she was on the verge of a breakdown; her heart was in her throat.
The wind whistled in my ears, and I could hear the sound of waves crashing.
She concluded that the place was very close to a river or lake.
Chang Le bent down and hunched over, moving toward the soft object.
"Sui Sui! Don't scare your aunt, wake up." Chang Le, with tears streaming down her face, leaned close to her.
She looked down and bumped her head against a warm little face. The familiar scent filled her with joy. It was Sui Sui; he was still alive.
"Sui Sui, be good, wake up, we've been kidnapped."
In her hazy state, Sui Sui heard her aunt's shouts and sobs.
"Hmm..."
Sui Sui feels her face is sticky.
Hearing Sui Sui hum, Chang Le was overjoyed and continued to call out, "Sui Sui, wake up quickly."
Just as Chang Le's face was close to hers again, Sui Sui tilted her head and said in a wronged tone, "Auntie, you smeared your snot on my face."
Chang Le: "..."
"Sui Sui, wake up! We've been kidnapped!"
Sui Sui felt dizzy. He remembered hearing the neighing of horses and a handkerchief falling from his head. After that, he knew nothing more.
***
Unsurprisingly, the handkerchief contained a sleeping potion.
It's like the falconer who got pecked blind by the falcon; he spent all his time researching poisons, only to be knocked unconscious by a simple sleeping potion.
"Auntie, don't speak, let me listen to where we are?" With his hands and feet bound by ropes, he simply lay down and closed his eyes.
Apart from the sound of the wind and the soft lapping of waves, there was no other sound around.
Sui Sui wasn't sure if it was his imagination or if it was real, but he felt the floor shake slightly.
"Auntie, this is not a street, nor is it a mansion."
Chang Le raised her bound arm and wiped her tears and snot on the sleeve of her arm.
Chang Le said dejectedly, "I know this isn't a bustling street; it's like the middle of nowhere. Did the kidnappers take us out of the city?"
"No, we're like we're on a boat. The boat isn't very big, nor is it small, and it's rocking gently."
Seeing that Sui Sui was confident, Chang Le simply lay down as well and quietly felt it. Sure enough, she could feel the boat rocking gently.
"Sui Sui, what should we do? Will the kidnappers throw us into the water and drown us?" Chang Le was frightened, and her voice became much softer.
Sui Sui took a deep breath, and as the effects of the medicine gradually wore off, the dizziness lessened considerably.
In the darkness, he leaned his little head closer to Chang Le and said, "Auntie, don't be afraid. Since it's a kidnapping, the kidnappers will use us to exchange for money. They won't kill us."
"It's just that this place is remote, so it will be a little difficult for Father and Mother to find us. Aunt, please keep quiet, I'll call someone over to ask right away."
"Hey! Is anyone there? Someone come quick!"
Chang Le wanted to stop Sui Sui, but it was too late.
"Sui Sui, stop shouting."
Before Chang Le could finish speaking, footsteps could be heard nearby.
"Hey kid, what are you yelling for? If you keep yelling, believe me, I'll throw you into the lake to feed the fish!"
With a man's roar, and a creak, a ray of moonlight shone in.
Chang Le and Sui Sui turned their heads and saw a tall figure standing at the door.
Chang Le and Sui Sui lay on the floor, and when they lifted their eyelids, they could only see a reflection.
"Uncle, I want some water."
The shadowy figure was slightly taken aback. Could this child be mentally challenged? Why isn't he crying or making a fuss, and why is he calling out to him so affectionately?
"Uncle, you tied me up so you could ask my mother for money, right? It wouldn't be good if I got too thirsty, wouldn't you say?" Sui Sui coaxed, seeing that no one had moved.
"Wait!"
After the man left, Sui Sui curled up like a pupa and sat up abruptly.
Chang Le followed his example, curling her legs up and sitting on the floor.
Perhaps thinking the two children couldn't escape, the kidnappers left the door open, and by the moonlight, the situation inside the house was clearly visible.
This place resembles the second-floor aft cabin of a pleasure boat, with an exquisite tea table and a bed, next to which is a delicate openwork incense burner.
Perhaps to prevent the two from escaping, the windows were tightly closed.
"Sui Sui, the items here are all quite nice; she doesn't seem like someone who's short of money."
Chang Le knew that renting a pleasure boat was not cheap. She had taken a pleasure boat tour on the lake when she was in Yannan, and it cost several hundred taels of silver to rent one.
